TromaDance returns to terrorize Asbury Park, NJ for their 14th annual edition, which will be held — for free! — at Asbury Lanes on April 12-13. It’s two days and nights of gonzo short films from all over the world, plus a few low-budget feature-length genre excursions and one documentary.
But, the big highlight of the fest will be a special workprint preview screening of Troma daddy Lloyd Kaufman’s latest epic of grotesqueness and debauchery: Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1, the fourth trilogy-busting entry in the classic Nuke ‘Em High series. Universal Pictures will distribute Brain Drain 2 (Fuga de cerebros 2) in Spain. The Brain Drain 2 movie follows the 2009 romantic comedy set in Oxford University which grossed a strong 6.9 million Euros ($9.5 million) under Hispano Fox Film. Curro Velazquez and Alex Pina are back as writers as are the first film's producers in Antena 3 Films, Globomedia and Cangrejo Films. Velazquez and Pina are serving as executive producers on BD2, alongside director Fernando Gonzalez, who also helmed the first Brain Drain movie.

Tennis star Andy Roddick teamed up with Fernando Gonzalez during the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Saturday for the ’Champions for Chile" fundraiser to aid victims of the February 27 Chilean earthquake.
In additional to showcasing his wicked on-court skills, Roddick also helped organize the event, which was initiated by Gonzalez, a native of Chile.
“My country will never forget this,” Gonzalez said.

Madrid -- The 12th Malaga Spanish Film Festival will stay true to its roots as the premiere showcase for the Spanish film industry, offering a bevy of directorial debuts, when it runs April 17-25, organizers said Tuesday.
But as new festival director Carmelo Romero takes the reins from Solomon Castiel for the first preview of this year’s Spanish film production stressing continuity, he also has added some ingredients to spice things up.
Native son Antonio Banderas will attend the festival for the first time to present the Malaga Award to Juan Diego, whom he directed in his Spanish-language, Malaga-based film “Summer Rain.” The festival will offer a “making of” section dedicated to Banderas’ “Rain.”
