“Coming 2 America” dominated the Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild on Feb. 19 winning all three of its bids. The sequel to the comedy classic won both contemporary awards plus the special make-up prize. The period/character awards went to the makeup of “Cruella” and the hairstyling of “Being the Ricardos.”
This haul positions “Coming 2 America” well for the Academy Awards. In the first eight years of these guild awards, the eventual Oscar winner claimed at least one prize here first. Of its four rivals for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the Oscars, only “Cruella” came away from here a winner. Both “House of Gucci” and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” were bested in all three of their races while “Dune” was a two-time also-ran.
The Oscar and Emmy-winning makeup artist Michèle Burke and the Emmy-winning hair stylist Joy Zapata were feted with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild got a jump on the Oscars by announcing nominations on January 11. Of the 10 films that remain in the running for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the Oscars, eight are vying for these precursor prizes. “House of Gucci,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “The Suicide Squad” reaped three bids apiece with the guild; “Cruella,” “Dune” and “No Time to Die” earned two each; and “West Side Story” has one.
Two films still in contention at the Academy Awards — “Cyrano” and “Nightmare Alley” — were snubbed by the guild. Conversely, five of the Muahs favorites — “Being the Ricardos,” “Black Widow,” “Don’t Look Up,” “In the Heights” and “The Matrix Resurrections” — didn’t make the cut with the academy in phase 1 of voting.

“The Suicide Squad,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “House of Gucci” lead the ninth annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild nominations (IATSE Local 706).
“The Suicide Squad,” released last August, was nominated in special makeup effects, contemporary makeup and contemporary hairstyling.
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “House of Gucci” also landed three nominations, while “Dune” scored two nods. This bodes well for all the films which made the Oscar shortlist.
As previously announced, makeup artist Michèle Burke, known for her work on the Mission Impossible and Austin Powers franchises, and hairstylist Joy Zapata, who worked on “A Star is Born” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” will receive the 2022 Muahs Lifetime Achievement awards. The Distinguished Artisan award will be announced shortly.
The winners will be announced on Feb. 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Natasha Romanoff has come an awful long way since she was first introduced in 2010’s Iron Man 2.
From alien armies (see: the Chitauri) to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, ScarJo’s secret agent has done it all. But later this year, the long-anticipated Black Widow solo movie will wind back the clock to explore the formative years of one Natasha Romanoff.
News of a young Natasha was confirmed some months ago, but during last night’s Oscar ceremony, Variety (h/t ComicBook.com) caught up with Paul Gooch and David White, the hair and makeup duo responsible for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, to discuss what comes next for Black Widow.
The early years, it seems, after Gooch told Variety that this year’s Black Widow movie will flash back to McU past, when Natasha Romanoff was “much younger.”
Well we’re going back in time to when they’re much younger.

It’s that time again – the British version of the Oscars, without any of the glamour or buzz. As is always the way with the British Academy Film and Television Awards, the local films have pretty much cleaned up. The only real surprises are the awards that The King’s Speech didn’t win. But here’s an interesting dilemma – traditionally, the British winners don’t have as much success at the Oscars. Will we see a major change in the results in a week or two?
Some results are a delight – in particular, Chris Morris winning a Baafat for a comedy about suicide bombers – but others are a mystery. Why in the hell is there a separate award for British films if the result is that same as the Best Film catagory?

It's good to be the King. And it's even better to be "The King's Speech" at the British Academy Film Awards, also known to people who don't like to type a lot as the BAFTAs. Continuing it's domination of awards season of late, "The King's Speech" was crowned with seven BAFTAs, including the awards for Best Supporting Actor (Geoffrey Rush), Best Supporting Actress (Helena Bonham Carter), Best Actor (Colin Firth), Best British Film, and Best Film. Yes, it was the best film made in England or anywhere else in 2010.
Cult film fans were well represented at the BAFTAs this year, at least in the categories "The King's Speech" wasn't elligible for. Chris Morris' terrorist slapstick comedy "Four Lions" won Best Debut by a British Filmmaker, Tom Hardy from "Bronson" and "Inception" won the Rising Star Award, and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" won best Foreign Language Film.

Tonight the award ceremony took place in London to honor recipients of the British Academy Film Awards, in a show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). The BAFTA winners won't have any particular effect on the Oscar race, but the lineup for winners looks very much like that which has been ratified many times over by various film awards in the Us over the past few months, and which is likely to be set in stone by the Oscars. The basic breakdown is that The King's Speech was the big winner with seven awards in total, taking the Best Film and Outstanding British Film categories as well as acting nods for Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush. David Fincher won Best Director for The Social Network, and Inception took quite a few technical awards. All the details are after the break. There's not...

We know whose night has just begun and who’s going to celebrate all night long!
Tom Hooper’s King took almost everything (check out the list below if you don’t trust me), and when I say that I mean that the movie actually won half the 14 awards (or seven, if you prefer) it was up for, including Best Film, Best Actor for Colin Firth, Best Supporting Actress for Helena Bonham Carter and Best Supporting Actor for Geoffrey Rush!
This royal drama also took best British Film, the first film to take both best film and best British film honors in decades.
Ok, what’s also interesting…hm, let me see. Tom Hardy, yes, Inception star was crowned as a big winner at the Ceremony!
In raking in the Rising Star honor, Mr Hardy ended up beating out fellow nominees including Gemma Arterton, Andrew Garfield, Aaron Johnson and Emma Stone.
