Sound Mixer Richard Bryce Goodman Reflects on His Career, From ‘Death Race 2000’ to ‘Ford v Ferrari’
When Richard Bryce Goodman was a young man, his wide-ranging interests included photography, music and philosophy, but it was a present he received while growing up in Baltimore that seems to have had the biggest influence on his career arc.
“I had a darkroom from age 12 where friends and I used to make our own R&b mixes off Wwin radio with a fancy tape recorder that was given to me by a rich uncle,” says Goodman, an Academy Award-nominated sound mixer.
Goodman’s early training was eclectic. In the late ’60s, he attended London’s Slade School of Fine Art, gaining insight into moviemaking from the institution’s in-house film legend, Thorold Dickinson. Returning stateside, he earned a degree in fine art and philosophy from Bucknell University in 1970. He began shooting documentaries around the college’s art classes using a Bolex camera stocked with film short ends from the psych department.

Contestants for Mr. Gay Netherlands
The kind folks at Mr. Gay Netherlands know me all too well and sent over the above picture of a pile of hot men who make up the 12 finalists this year. They include a Palestinian Muslim and an Israeli Jew according to the press release, so perhaps a peace accord can be hammered out? Final judging takes place August 6th, but while one of these guys may be the winner, I don't see any losers. Today's Briefs are very soccer-centric, so we'll get right to the news that soccer has officially come out as gay to TheOnion.com.
British goalie Joe Hart is adorable, and after Robert Green's oopsie over the weekend vs. USA, he's probably the new starter. He's also a gay icon according to the Daily Star.

HollywoodNews.com: Derrick Martin got me thinking about my prom way back in the 80s. I asked the cutest girl I knew to go with me and she said “yes.” She wore a sexy red dress and I had a white tuxedo with little red details.
She was my girlfriend for awhile then after the prom, she broke up with me. I was pissed but deep down, I didn’t care. I was gay! But there was no way I could’ve taken who I really wanted to take without causing a riot.
Wouldn’t have even considered it.
Today, most kids still don’t – especially kids who live in states like Georgia. But Derrick Martin wanted to take his boyfriend, Richard Goodman, to his prom last month and did so despite a wave of controversy. His determination and the surrounding publicity got him kicked out of his house by his parents.

HollywoodNews.com: ne of my favorite events all year occurs of the Saturday evening of La Pride weekend: Life Out Loud.
It’s always so well-attended and filled with fascinating people and benefits Lifeworks Mentoring, a group which offers one on one, peer and group mentoring opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth ages 14-24. It is now under the umbrella of the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.
Last year, Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black gave an inspiring speech that left a lot of us deeply moved. This year’s honorees are just as deserving: high school students Constance Martin and Derrick Martin who fought to bring same-sex dates to their respective proms and paid quite a price.
