Jim Gordon, a drummer who played on Derek and the Dominos’ Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, died Monday at the age of 77. The musician, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was serving a prison sentence for killing his mother in 1983, died in a state-run medical facility in Vacaville, California. Publicist Bob Merlis confirmed Gordon’s death in a statement, adding that Gordon died of natural causes.

Jim Gordon, a Wrecking Crew session drummer and member of Eric Clapton’s band Derek and the Dominos who was diagnosed with schizophrenia after murdering his mother, has died at the age of 77.
In 1983, Gordon murdered his mother in a psychotic episode. He was sentenced to 16 years to life, but never showed up for any of his parole hearings. As of this year, he was serving his sentence at California Medical Facility in Vacaville, where he died of natural causes on Wednesday (March 15th), as confirmed by a representative.
Born James Beck Gordon in Southern California, he began playing drums in his early teens and quickly developed a reputation as a talented and versatile musician. His big break came in the late 1960s when he was hired as a session drummer for The Everly Brothers.

Despite Bruce Wayne’s enduring 80-year run as the Batman, he isn’t the only character who has donned the cape and cowl. Jean-Paul Valley most famously took over as Batman in 1993’s “Knightfall,” while Dick Grayson succeeded his mentor during Grant Morrison’s time writing the character in the 2000s. Young Terry McGinnis was recruited by a retired Bruce in the Batman Beyond animated series. And Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, and Jim Gordon have also had turns as the Dark Knight.

I’ve been dipping into these Dark Multiverse books and crossovers for a while now, and as you would expect they have been of mixed quality. Generally, though, they’ve hit more home runs than strikes. The positive thing is that as they are essentially glorified ‘What If?’ books, and the possibilities are endless. Any creator can take a major storyline from the past in the DC Universe that they enjoyed, or more likely have an editor assign it to them, and run with it in a different direction. Heck, I could write those. This time round, Phillip Kennedy Johnson gets that job, with co-conspirator Dexter Soy having fun on the art. Let’s take a look.
So, first things first, this is a dark take on the Hush storyline that ran back in the Batman books nearly twenty years ago now.

Judging by the millions of views the trailer for “The Batman” has already received since its release last week, odds are you’ve probably watched it at least once. And one of the aspects about the trailer that has really gone viral is the makeup work that turned Colin Farrell unrecognizable as the Penguin. And according to actor Jeffrey Wright, who stars as Jim Gordon in the film, the makeup is so good for Farrell’s character, that it fooled people on set.

A few days ago, we got the first trailer for upcoming superhero game Gotham Knights. Heavily influenced by Rocksteady’s beloved Batman: Arkham trilogy, Gotham Knights will follow Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood as they protect Gotham from a criminal onslaught following the death of Bruce Wayne and the disappearance of Batman.
Interestingly, however, the Caped Crusader is not the only old-school protector of Gotham City that WB Games Montréal chose to kill off for this project. During the trailer, a postmortem video recording of Bruce quickly and casually states that, at some point in time, Jim Gordon has also been killed. How long ago this happened before the game’s actual story is unclear, but even so, its ramifications on the plot are sure to be tremendous.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Batman: The Long Halloween.
With the announcement of an animated two part feature adapting Batman: The Long Halloween to movie format came no small amount of trepidation. You see, The Long Halloween, was based on a Jeph Loeb comic. And like the other Jeph Loeb comics converted to movies (Hush and two Batman/Superman stories), The Long Halloween is a bad comic. But the one glimmer of hope that shone through this announcement for me was that the most recent adaptation of his work – Batman: Hush – was a marked improvement on its source material.
Jeph Loeb can’t write mysteries to save his life.
Jeph Loeb can’t write a lot of things – siblings, crossovers, Asians – but he’s especially bad at writing mysteries. Which is a huge problem when you’re writing Batman, whose core competency, besides being obscenely wealthy, is being really good at solving mysteries.

There is a lot to love about the first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman movie. So much that we wrote a whole lotta words about all the cool secrets packed into it (which you can read here).
But perhaps our favorite thing about The Batman is how it appears to reinvent the Riddler (Paul Dano) as a creepy serial killer. And not just any serial killer, but one who might be taking inspiration from one of the most terrifying unsolved serial murderers of them all: the Zodiac Killer.
The trailer opens with who we presume is the Riddler covering a victim in duct tape. We only presume it’s the Riddler because his face is completely covered in an eerie hood/goggles combo. The Zodiac notoriously committed one of his attacks while wearing a custom hood and costume worthy of a Batman villain. This could just be considered a coincidence,...

Throughout the casting process of The Batman, director Matt Reeves would announce every new major addition with a social media post, and once the cameras started rolling it appeared as though all of the main players were in place. Having been shut down for months as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, though, the Planet of the Apes filmmaker would have no doubt been poring through the script he co-wrote with Bad Boys For Life‘s Peter Craig and Project Power‘s Mattson Tomlin to see if there were any scenes yet to be shot that could be improved.
The first trailer revealed that the production had more than enough footage in the can to cut together a teaser that established the tone and aesthetic of the movie, while also sending the internet into meltdown thanks to a series of major reveals. At long last, we have a new Batman game to look forward to, only WB Games Montreal’s new Gotham-set open-world co-op adventure doesn’t actually feature the Dark Knight. Instead, Gotham Knights is set after the death of Bruce Wayne, which leaves the city in the hands of his surrogate crime-fighting children. Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood must now work together to take on new threats to Gotham, including a mysterious new criminal cabal known as the Court of Owls.
The extended Bat-Family taking on the Caped Crusader’s duties as protectors of Gotham City is the logical progression of the story put in place by Rocksteady’s own Arkham series, which ended with Bruce activating the Knightfall Protocol and dying in the process. Except Gotham Knights is surprisingly not set in the same universe or continuity as the Arkham games…

It’s fair to say that the release of the first trailer for The Batman has the internet excited today, from the reveal of a decidedly emo Bruce Wayne to the foreboding tone of the material. The teaser, which you can catch above, appears to contain several nods to the villains we’ll be seeing in Matt Reeves’ film, too, including Paul Dano’s Riddler. Many people are suggesting, though, that Colin Farrell shows up as Oswald Cobblepot in the footage as well, albeit not quite in the way that we expected.
According to ScreenRant, a glimpse of a rain-soaked character may actually be Farrell wearing heavy make-up. Given that we’ve already had behind-the-scenes images of the actor looking very different, it’s initially hard to give this idea too much credit. However, the theory also suggests that you can pick out aspects of Farrell’s face structure in the character,...

The Batman trailer is finally here, accompanied by Nirvana’s “Something in the Way.” The two-minutes-and-a-half of footage presents a nightmarish new take on Gotham and the Dark Knight, an impressive feat considering only 25% of the movie has been shot so far, according to what director Matt Reeves said during the DC FanDome digital event.
Matt Reeves’ Batman reboot explores the early days of the Caped Crusader’s career, about two years into it, and focuses on a younger Bruce Wayne who is haunted by his past as well as a new villain who’s leaving victims all of the city for him to find.
We see in the trailer as Batman is hunted by a serial killer who is leaving him letters at every crime scene, teasing that the movie will feel more like a detective story than the usual action take. The trailer also gives us our first look at several villains,...

Wow, it’s 2020 and Matt Reeves just revealed a Batman trailer soundtracked by Nirvana — sorry, Kurt — and that looks like it was just as influenced by The Crow as The Dark Knight. I mean that in a good way of course.
But aside from the reveal of the horror-tinged tone, there were a few juicy moments to break down, like who was that masked figure wrapping up a dead person’s face with duct tape? And who was sending Batman those curious notes? As we saw in the trailer, which leaned heavily into the Dark part of the Dark Knight, there is someone killing people in Gotham in gruesome and terrible ways and it seems like they’re doing it to get Bruce’s attention. It’s also clear the murders will be at the heart of the film.

The first trailer for the Zack Snyder cut of “Justice League” was a big deal, but the biggest moment of the DC FanDome on Saturday had to be the reveal of the very first trailer for Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson. Everybody’s been playing things very close to the vest with this flick so far, and it feels like we’ve been watching impatiently from afar as we try to wait patiently to see it. So it’s nice that this trailer is out there and we can start to speculate about what we’re gonna get out of this thing when it hits theaters next year.
1. This very much looks like it could be a Christopher Nolan film
Director Matt Reeves doesn’t appear to be deviating too dramatically, at least in terms of aesthetics, from the gritty look Christopher Nolan established for his “Dark Knight” trilogy.

Gotham Knight‘s debut trailer begins with a stunning sequence in which Bruce Wayne informs his closest allies that he is dead and that it’s now up to them to protect Gotham City. This sequence is actually an extension of the end of Batman: Arkham Knight, which saw Bruce Wayne initiate the Knightfall Protocol, ending his own life.
While Batman’s death at the end of the game seems like an open and shut case, not everyone is convinced the Dark Knight is really gone. And while WB Games has certainly made it look like the Caped Crusader is really gone in Gotham Knights, when you start to look at the evidence, you’ll find that Batman’s death is, at best, debatable.
That being the case, we’re going to look at both sides of this debate in order to help determine whether or not the Dark Knight...

Barbara Gordon is one of Gotham’s most iconic heroes, and in the newly announced Gotham Knights, she’ll be taking to the streets under her most famous mantle, Batgirl. Alongside her other Bat-Family super-siblings, she’ll be protecting the city from the mysterious organization known as the Court of Owls, but if you’ve played the Arkham games, you might be wondering why she is no longer in a wheelchair and using the mantle of Oracle.
The official press release from WB Games gives a brief indication of how Babs becomes Batgirl again: “Barbara Gordon is a determined fighter and a skilled hacker. As the daughter of deceased Gotham commissioner, Jim Gordon, she had helped Batman as Oracle in the past. Now, after years of recovery and preparation, she is ready to step into her new role, wielding her melee tonfa, and harnessing her training in kickboxing, capoeira, and jiu-jitsu.

WB Games Montréal recently launched a website to promote their upcoming video game. After navigating the deliberately cryptic web page, a few fans claim to have found information within the site’s files, including the name of the title it’s trying to promote as well as some of the characters that might appear in it.
The website, called r3dakt3d, features little to no information about the project itself. When fans open the web page in their browser, they’re met with an ominous message that reads: “We have been expecting you.” After putting in some codes, they eventually arrive at a screen displaying what many believe to be one of the game’s maps.
Elsewhere on the website, fans can also find the number 761,941,364,995, which turns out to the barcode for Detective Comics #359, an old issue of the Batman comics. Given that this particular issue featured the debut of Batgirl,...

Today brought some major DC news, as it was announced that The Batman is set to get a spinoff TV series based around the Gotham City Police Department. We’re told to expect similar projects to come in the future as part of Warner Bros.’ aims to create an expanded multi-platform franchise around Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight. Yes, this new show – based off Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka’s comics series Gotham Central – will take place in the same universe as the movie.
The news of this Gotham Central show, you see, hides a bigger confirmation about the nature of The Batman. HBO Max has given a series commitment to a drama set in the Gotham police department from Matt Reeves and Terrence Winter, Variety has learned.
The untitled series will be set in the world Reeves is creating for the feature film “The Batman,” with the intent being to launch a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. It is said to build on the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City. It is the first project announced under Reeves’ new overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group.
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption,...

Though he’s most familiar to audiences as J. Jonah Jameson, J.K. Simmons hopped over from the Marvel universe to DC for Justice League, in which he played Commissioner Gordon. He didn’t have a major role in the theatrical cut, but the Oscar-winning actor provided a fan-pleasingly traditional take on the Gotham cop. The good news is we should see some new footage of him in the role in the Snyder Cut, coming to HBO Max next year.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Simmons was asked about his thoughts on the Snyder Cut finally being released. Like many of the rest of the cast, the Spider-Man star is happy for the filmmaker getting to realize his original vision for the pic and is personally interested to see it when it’s released. He also promised that it’ll definitely be a lengthy movie, due to how much Snyder wants to achieve.

This review contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Harley Quinn.
It’s hard to stick the landing on any two season arc, let alone one that has centered around a slow burn queer relationship set against the backdrop of one of comics’ most famous cities. Yet as we stand in the shadow of Harley Quinn‘s season two finale, we can safely say that they have done it. Yep, Justin Halpern, Dean Lorey, Patrick Schumacker, and their team have delivered a hilariously funny, satisfyingly violent, and ultimately romantic final episode, which as much as it leaves us wanting more could also be the perfect ending to the brilliant series.
The fates of Harley and Ivy have been intrinsically connected since the first episode of the very first season when the Clown Princess of Crime was saved from the grips of Arkham by the villainess formerly known as Dr. Isley.

Can you believe it’s been 23 years since Batgirl made her last – and, to date – only live-action cinematic appearance, in 1997’s Batman & Robin? A Lego version of the heroine was voiced by Rosario Dawson in The Lego Batman Movie, and she was a lot of fun, but we’re still due a new version of Barbara Gordon on the big screen. Warner Bros. has been planning a movie for her for a while now, but so far we haven’t got any casting news. But there are a few names that fans tend to mention.
At the top of the list is Emma Stone, who’s obviously already made her mark on the superhero genre in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man films as Gwen Stacy. She would be the number one pick for a live-action take on Spider-Gwen, then, but failing that, she would definitely make a great Batgirl...

The Batman is set to feature a host of the Dark Knight’s biggest foes, something that has both excited and worried fans. There’s only so much screentime, after all, so how will writer/director Matt Reeves be able to balance a large rogues gallery of villains? We guessed some of them would be drawing the short straw, and we now know of one person who we can expect to only appear briefly: Oswald Cobblepot Aka the Penguin, as played by Colin Farrell.

Harley Quinn Season 2 Episode 6
Over one and a half seasons, Harley Quinn has established itself as silly, satirical, and brilliantly crude. But with “All The Best Inmates Have Daddy Issues,” Harley Quinn reveals a softer side.
Reimagining the classic Mad Love arc through the lens of Silence of the Lambs and some instantly recognizable Harley Quinn humor, we get to see Harley and Joker’s first meeting. Though there is, of course, a twist as it’s revealed that our anti-heroine met someone else on that fateful first day at Arkham: her closest friend and ally, Poison Ivy.
Something that’s immediately intriguing in what could’ve been an overly familiar arc is how they shine a blinding light on why Harley might have fallen for the Joker. Sure, it’s all done in the silliest way possible, but Dr. Quinzel sees horrific human...

Well, at this point, we shouldn’t be surprised, right? Warner Bros. has delayed the release of The Batman, the first solo Batman movie in nearly a decade, by four months. Why? Why do you think? It’s because production on The Batman was shut down in March because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Batman had been filming since January in the UK, and the production had just reached a point where major outdoor sequences involving Robert Pattinson’s Batman, an incredibly cool looking Batmobile, and even a Batcycle had been underway.
The Batman had been scheduled to open on June 25, 2021, a big summer release date for what Warner Bros. was surely hoping would be their biggest movie of the year. Instead, ol’ Bats will open on Oct. 1, 2021. When you consider that an R-rated (and Batman-free) Joker movie opened in early October to the tune of a billion dollars in 2019, Warner Bros.

When writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo were tapped to create a new volume of Batman comics for DC’s New 52 reboot in 2011, they didn’t set out to create a saga that would span almost a decade. With early story arcs like “The Court of Owls” and “Death of the Family,” Snyder and Capullo were just trying to tell the biggest Batman stories they could, the ones they’d always wanted to tell.
Their run, which is regarded today as one of the best in the history of the character, reimagined Batman’s origin story in “Zero Year,” killed the Caped Crusader off in “Endgame,” and brought him back to life in “Superheavy.” Then they sent the Dark Knight to space to fight a cosmic threat from a nightmare multiverse in the 2017 Dark Nights: Metal event, which is getting a Wonder Woman-centric sequel later this year.

In the latest tease from The Batman director Matt Reeves, a prominent first glimpse has arrived showcasing his upcoming movie’s take on what is, perhaps, the most iconic car in pop culture history. What’s immediately clear is that this is a conceptual reinvention of the vehicle, seemingly rooted in the theme of the film’s setting during the early era of the Caped Crusader, who will be played here by Robert Pattinson.

After years of development, The Batman finally entered production in London this past week. Matt Reeves’ reboot of the Dark Knight, with Robert Pattinson in the lead, has been the subject of intense scrutiny, with many reports detailing what we can expect in the movie. Chief among them is a roll call of Bruce Wayne’s most iconic enemies and as many as six or seven were once touted to be featured in the film.
Now that production is underway, however, We Got This Covered has heard from our sources – the same ones who told us that Pattinson had beat out Nicholas Hoult for the titular role back when they were both in the running – that Reeves has ultimately decided to excise one of these antagonists from the story. Apparently, Harvey Dent/Two-Face has been removed from The Batman with the intention now being to save him for a sequel.

The latest name to sign on to the already-impressive ensemble cast of The Batman was revealed yesterday, with Peter Sarsgaard announced as the newest member of the roster. The renowned character actor joins the likes of Andy Serkis, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell and John Turturro as supporting players in the next big screen adventure for the Dark Knight, with Robert Pattinson set for the title role.
While we already know who most of these stars are playing in the movie, with the exception of relative unknown Jayme Lawson, who may or may not be taking the role of Barbara Gordon, director Matt Reeves neglected to mention Sarsgaard’s character when he made the announcement on social media. As is the case with any casting news related to such a high-profile blockbuster, speculation instantly started on whose shoes the 48 year-old would be filling.
