From 1937, worked as assistant to Mark Hellinger at Warner Brothers. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps and wrote scripts for training films for the First Motion Picture Unit. After the war, Graf joined Columbia as personal secretary to studio boss Harry Cohn and, in 1952, was appointed supervisor of overseas productions for Columbia, based in London.
