A new take on “The Boondock Saints” is in the works with the 1999 cult film’s original stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles as the MacManus Brothers.
Thunder Road Pictures, which produces the “John Wick” franchise and the upcoming “Monkey Man” from Dev Patel, announced it is teaming with the rights holder Dragonfly Films to the original 1999 cult film “The Boondock Saints” to jointly produce what’s being described as a “reimagining” rather than a direct sequel. Dragonfly Films also confirmed the news on its Instagram.
Reedus and Flanery both portrayed the Irish Catholic killers rooting out Boston crime all in the name of the Lord in the original film, and they also returned for the 2009 follow-up film, “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.” However, Troy Duffy, the story’s original director and writer, will not direct the new film but will produce it. Exclusive: The rebirth of the 1999 cult favorite film The Boondock Saints is upon us. Thunder Road, the producer behind the John Wick films, has stepped in and joined rights-holder Dragonfly Films to make what they are calling a universe expansion of the action film franchise about the fraternal twin Irish brothers who raise holy hell to rid their Boston hometown of all criminals.
In the current configuration, Troy Duffy will step aside as director after creating and helming the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day. Both films starred The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery as the MacManus brothers, with Billy Connolly playing their father.
Reedus and Flanery will reprise their roles, and the search is on for a new director. Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.

An honest Cage gets caught up in an offbeat thriller.“Adios, Red Rock.”
As we celebrate Texas Week here at Fsr I knew I wanted to make sure this week’s Tao of Cage had a little Texas twang. Unfortunately I do very little planning in advance and hardly ever think things through. Last week I wrote about Joe, which would have been the perfect choice for Texas Week. Joe isn’t just Nicolas Cage’s most Texas movie but I do believe it’s his only movie that actually takes place in Texas. Go figure.
There may not be another Cage movie that take place in Texas but in 1992 Cage did play a drifter from Texas. This week we’re talking Red Rock West!
In this offbeat thriller Cage stars as Michael Williams, a former Marine from Odessa now looking for work in Wyoming. A friend gives him a tip about a job opportunity on an...

Scarlett Johansson Finds Summer Novella
Get a director’s chair ready, because actress Scarlett Johansson is prepping for her first job behind the camera. Is she ready to tackle material from Truman Capote? No one ever said she didn’t like a challenge.
In the news this week, Capote’s so-called “lost novella” has been adapted into a screenplay by the hand of playwright Tristine Skyler and producers have agreed to support Scarlett Johansson to direct the picture and embrace her directorial debut. Those producers are heavy-hitters in their own right. Barry Spikings won an Oscar for The Deer Hunter and has teamed up with Peter D. Graves and the Truman Capote Literary Trust.
The movie and the novel are called Summer Crossing. The tale is set in New York shortly after the end of WWII. The main character is an 18-year-old girl struggling to discover her own identity. First...

Scarlett Johansson is joining the ranks of Hollywood actors who step behind the camera to try their hand at directing. Though she's busy filming the sci-fi drama "Under the Skin" with "Sexy Beast" director Jonathan Glazer, Johansson is apparently prepping her directorial debut with an adaptation of Truman Capote's novella "Summer Crossing."
Variety has learned that Johansson will get behind the camera with the long-lost Capote novella about an 18-year-old girl coming into her own in post-World War II New York. Grady is a carefree young socialite who must make some serious decisions about a romance she is pursuing and the way it will effect those around her. It is compared to Capote's hit novella "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Yep, she's becoming a director, too, just like Madonna and Angelina Jolie. Variety is reporting that Barry Spikings, Oscar winning producer of The Deer Hunter, is backing and producing the feature directorial debut of actress Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in The Avengers next summer. She'll be taking on an adaptation of Truman Capote's 40s lost novella Summer Crossing, about an 18-year-old girl breaking free of her rich, smothering, family to discover her own identity and sexuality. Well, this sounds like an interesting step for Johansson, but she did direct the 2009 short These Vagabond Shoes just before. The news focuses on the project coming together with producers, including executive producer Peter D. Graves in conjunction with the Truman Capote Literary Trust and its trustee Alan Schwartz. Screenwriter and New York playwright Tristine Skyler (Getting to Know You, The Bell Jar) is adapting the Capote novella for Johansson. "Summer...

Freestyle Releasing, in association with Cinemarket Films, has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to Andrei Konchalovsky's "The Nutcracker in 3D." The film will open Nov. 24.
Elle Fanning, Nathan Lane and John Turturro star in the new interpretation of the story that inspired Tchaikovsky's music for the classic ballet.
The story centers on 9-year-old Mary (Fanning), who is celebrating Christmas in Vienna and receives an enchanted nutcracker as a gift from her Uncle Albert (Lane). The nutcracker comes to life and takes Mary into his magical world of fairies, sugarplums and other toys. Ultimately, Mary must face off against the Rat King (Turturro) to save the Nutcracker and his kingdom.
To augment the original Tchaikovsky score, "The Lion King" lyricist Tim Rice has written eight new songs for the film, which was shot on location in Budapest, Hungary.

HollywoodNews.com: Turner Classic Movies (TCM) today unveiled the network’s list of 10 Best Comedy Lines from Classic Movies, timed to coincide with the buildup to sister network TBS and Just For Laughs’ second annual comedy festival in Chicago, which begins tomorrow. The list includes lines from a number of memorable comedies, spoken by such notables as Groucho Marx, Mel Brooks, Ginger Rogers, Peter Sellers, John Belushi and Rob Reiner’s mother.
With this latest authoritative list, TCM set out to find lines that leave audiences in stitches. Many of the lines are repeated by even the most casual movie fans, demonstrating their strong foothold in pop culture.
“Great movie quotes frequently make their way into everyday conversation, and that is especially true for lines that make us laugh out loud,” said TCM host and film historian Robert Osborne.

TCM has gotten in the habit of releasing new top tens quite frequently and every now and again one is rather interesting, such as their list of the Top 15 Most Influential Films of All-Time, which set the Internet on fire last April for about two straight weeks and even encouraged some sites to poll their users to see just how TCM's list compared to a user generated one.
I doubt today's list will be scrutinized as hard as that one considering comedy is so subjective, but I'm sure many of you will have something to add to the list that you feel should be included. What follows directly below is Turner Classic Movies' (TCM) list list of the 10 Best Comedy Lines from Classic Movies, which lines from such notables as Groucho Marx, Mel Brooks, Ginger Rogers, Peter Sellers, John Belushi and Rob Reiner's mother.

Australian writer/directors (and twin brothers) Michael and Peter Spierig have an interesting career trajectory: from their zombie-laden Undead to last year's vampire flick Daybreakers to... a sequel to Jim Henson's Dark Crystal?
Yes. It's true. The Dark Crystal. The one with the Gelflings and other weird puppet creatures that proved that Jim Henson had indeed inhaled at some point in his life.
But what will the sequel be about? Will it still use puppets? Will it still be fun to watch stoned out of your gourd? Address your questions in the the press release below (all but that last question).

Christopher Kyle, the man who penned sword-and-sandals epic Alexander, has signed on to adapt a rather more contemporary tale of one man's rise to dizzying heights, The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending. Written by John Land, the Las Vegas-set novel is the "globe-spanning saga of one man's spectacular rise from rags to riches, the sins that brought him there, and the insidious vendetta that may cost him everything", according to the reliable source we've meticulously researched that from. Although the man in question, the awesomely-monikered Michael 'The Tyrant' Tiranno, is the adopted son of an Italian crime lord, the story has as much of the Ian Flemings as the Mario Puzos about it. The adaptation is designed as the first of a series of James Bond-like adventures, with Tiranno even turning Jack Bauer at one point to defend Vegas from terrorist attack.Kyle, whose other script credits include the underrated K-19: The Widowmaker,...
