The crashing tidal wave that is the Edm movement appears to have claimed its latest victim. Wolfgang Gartner took five long years to follow up his 2011 studio album debut Weekend in America, and as sad as it is to say, what he’s finally delivered in the form of 10 Ways to Steal Home Plate is simply too little too late.
Considering that health issues necessitating an extended touring hiatus befell the Kindergarten Recordings founder in 2015, it almost seems appropriate to give him some kind of pass on his sophomore album’s shortcomings – until you remember how outspoken he’s been against the homogenization of electronic music in the past. In a 2013 interview, he asserted that “the ‘big’ sound in dance music right now is just this mashup of every single subgenre possible, to try and appeal to the most people possible, with these cheesy played-out trance pads and vocal hooks.

It’s been some kind of wait since Wolfgang Gartner put out a full-length album, and there have been plenty of factors that could have colored his creative process in the five years that have elapsed. In anticipation of his upcoming album, 10 Ways to Steal Home Plate, the electro house mastermind has uploaded a minimix of the same name to his SoundCloud account indicating that he might have expanded his creative horizons for the new effort.
After all, much of the minimix borders on saccharine levels of mass appeal; appearances from the likes of E-40 and Wiley & Trina make for a decidedly more pop-infused iteration of the Wolfgang Gartner style than what longtime fans might be used to. Nonetheless, his production hallmarks remain intact, and while the sound of 10 Ways to Steal Home Plate might make for a slightly more mainstream take on his time-tested approach it doesn’t make...

2Am Club took the stage at House of Blues in Chicago last weekend for a standing-room-only performance in one of their favorite cities. The uber-hip pop/rockers were there to support Mike Posner during his "Up In The Air" tour by providing a jump start to the evening and entertaining Chi-towners with a handful of tunes from their own new CD "What Did You Think Was Going To Happen." The six piece band from L.A. opened with "Let Me Down Easy," a pop/hip-hop number off their debut CD. Tyler Cordy, the band's emcee, provided a righteous dose of funk-infused raps while singer Marc Griffin complimented him on vocals. The two were backed by bassist Matt Warshauer a.k.a. Sauce, guitarist Matt Reagan, drummer Ian O'Neill, and keyboardist Dave Dalton. Collectively, these guys offer more bang for the buck than many of their more established contemporaries. The up-tempo lover's lament "Only For Me,...

Meet Tyler Cordy, vocalist and emcee of 2Am Club. Tyler's six-member pop/rock/dance band out of L.A. is gearing up for the release of their debut album "What Did You Think Would Happen," on Tuesday, September 14th. Their single, "Worry About You" is climbing the music charts with its smooth 'n funky vibe and the stylsistic vocals of Cordy and fellow band-mate/singer Marc Griffin. MTV recently named them Push Artist of the Week, and they're about to embark on a multi-city tour opening for synthpop/dancepop artist Mike Posner. At a stop over in Columbus, Ohio just days before the album's release, Tyler took a break to speak with us about 2Am Club's beginning, the complexities of the song-writing process, and life on the road with this close-knit band of brothers. Let's start with the band itself, beginning with the name. I understand there's a bit of history behind it.

This September, L.A. outfit 2Am Club will release their debut studio album, What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? and for it, the guys hit the studio with a number of top-grade producers including former Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison and hip-hop producer No ID, who they say helped shape one "ridiculous" track for their album.
"The beginning of the No ID collaboration is he had a track [and] we did our album with an A&R guy named Peter Edge, who worked with Alicia keys and D'Angelo and has done a bunch of amazing records over the last few years," 2 Am-er Tyler Cordy explained to MTV News. "And we just heard it one day and it was ridiculous. And it always had been there.
