The release date for WWE 2K24 is getting closer, and fans have been waiting to get their hands on it. The upcoming title will also include a 40 Years of WrestleMania edition, so fans can look forward to reliving some iconic matches. The roster for the game is also looking good, with several returning characters joined by a few surprise entries.
Among them, however, fans have noticed the absence of one superstar, leading to a lot of confusion, especially as the Showcase mode is filled with former WWE legends, so missing out on this particular superstar makes little to no sense, but that could still change before the game is out.
WWE 2K24 Showcase Matches Could Still Feature This Superstar
Not seeing Triple H on the Showcase match list has got fans worried about missing some iconic matches.

Sometimes a WWE title run just doesn’t work. Maybe the wrestler wasn’t right for it. Maybe the wrestler was right but the writing was all wrong. Maybe the disastrous choice to make someone champion not only hurt the careers of others but also damaged the company as a whole.
We’re looking back at 15 WWE wrestlers who shouldn’t have been crowned world champions. Keep in mind, this list is broken down into specific title runs, so while it was copacetic to have Hulk Hogan wave the banner during the Hulkamania era, that doesn’t mean that it was always the best move to put him at the top of the food chain. Let’s have a look…

The Iron Claw is hitting theaters and tells the tragic story of the Von Erich family, who dominated the wrestling world for two decades. We learn about the triumphs and the tragedy of one of the most significant families in professional wrestling. They are not the only interesting characters in the often time wacky world of tights and arm bars. A lot of wrestlers led exciting lives outside of the ring. Their stories are just ready for the big screen treatment. Wrestler biopics could be an interesting subgenre we didn’t know we needed.
Gorgeous George
The name Gorgeous George is known by hardcore wrestling fans, but many casual fans may have no idea how big of an impact he had on the wrestling industry and pop culture in general. He wrestled for 30 years, from the 30s into the 60s. George is perhaps known as one of the greatest heel performers of all time.

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… We’ve got the build to Backlash so let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: The Bloodline def. Lwo The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Just days away from the WWE Draft and weeks away from WWE Backlash, The Lwo and The Bloodline threw down in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. With new music inspired by WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero, The Lwo confidently strode down to the ring. Their confidence paid off at the start when they stood tall to begin the match. The Lwo continued their dominance with Santos Escobar lighting up The Usos and Sikoa with jumping knee strikes and crossbodys. A superb Phoenix Splash by Del Toro almost gave The Lwo a resounding win, but The Bloodline were able to survive...

Match #1: Cody Rhodes def. Ludwig Kaiser The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
One week before The American Nightmare squares off with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, Cody Rhodes had his first match on SmackDown in over seven years. Rhodes took it to Ludwig Kaiser before Paul Heyman came down to the ramp to take a closer look. A missed Cody Cutter from Rhodes set the stage for Kaiser to wear down The American Nightmare. A Disaster Kick got Rhodes back into the proceedings just as Solo Sikoa made his way down to the ring. WWE 2K23 features quite a few improvements to the franchise formula that will certainly be welcomed by wrestling game fans everywhere. Of course, some things never change, which means that WWE 2K23 still makes you unlock quite a few wrestlers via gameplay accomplishments and by spending both real and virtual currency.
The very good news is that WWE 2K23 makes the various unlock processes fairly painless. The problem is that the game doesn’t always do a great job of telling you exactly how to unlock those wrestlers or the best way to go about acquiring all of them. Hopefully, we can help ease that part of the unlock system just a bit.
How to Unlock Every WWE 2K23 Wrestler With Virtual Currency
The vast majority of wrestlers in WWE 2K23 are unlocked via the game’s Virtual Currency (Vc) system. Every wrestler available via the in-game store costs 1,000 Vc to unlock.

Match #1: Solo Sikoa def. Sheamus The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
One week after mixing it up in a high-stakes Fatal 4-Way Match, Sheamus took on Solo Sikoa one-on-one for the first-time-ever. Throughout the extremely hard-hitting affair, Solo targeted the injured left shoulder of The Celtic Warrior. Nevertheless, the former WWE Champion battled back. When it looked as if Sheamus might emerge victorious with a earth-shattering knee, however, Sami Zayn distracted the official. This ignited an explosive altercation between The Bloodline and The Brawling Brutes outside the ring. During the subsequent chaos, Zayn again interjected in the contest and paved the way for Sikoa to pick up the victory with the Spinning Solo. With Butch and...

Welcome to this review of last night’s Monday Night Raw, right here on Nerdly. This is the first of a new Raw for WWE following the retirement of Vince McMahon… Of course, we won’t see changes straight away but let’s see what happened this week.
Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. Theory (Dq) The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Although Drew McIntyre traveled to Raw to celebrate Rey Mysterio’s 20th Anniversary, The SmackDown Warrior soon found himself matched up with Mr. Money in the Bank. Before a winner could be determined, however, The Brawling Brutes attacked McIntyre and brought a swift end to the action. Welcome to this week’s review of WWE Raw, the company’s flagship show which this week is the follow-up show to the weekend’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Let’s get right into it!
Match #1: The Mysterios def. The Judgment Day (Dq) The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The Judgment Day came calling in San Diego, but The Mysterios had the hometown crowd behind them to ignite their fire. Dominik was looking to impress in his first match in San Diego, but Damian Priest sent a brutal message with a toss of the younger Mysterio onto the outside barricades. With the official distracted, Rey Mysterio paid homage to the legendary Eddie Guerrero by tricking the referee into thinking he’d been struck with a steel chair by Finn Bálor.

Wrestling is a big man’s game, and when you look at the documented history of WWE, names such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Razor Ramon, Andre The Giant, The Rock, Bret Hart, and The Undertaker have several things in common: They’re tall guys who would never be mistaken as cruiserweights. The term cruiserweight was made famous by World Championship Wrestling, which made the division hot by showcasing world-class wrestlers who weren’t just heavyweights that the wrestling world were used to. The most infamous to come out of that division are Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko, X-Pac (Who was Synxx

No Way Out 2004 will always be an unforgettable night. Why? Well, it’s due to the fact that Eddie Guerrero won his first and only WWE title. It was definitely shocking as it was close to WrestleMania season, and though creative had been teasing Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg for some time, no one thought that Lesnar was dropping the belt a month before the biggest WWE pay-per-view of the year. The lead-up to Lesnar vs. Eddie Gurrero was solid, with the former WWE star fresh off his one-sided rivalry against Chavo Guerrero and then winning a 15-man Royal Rumble on

After all the hype, the talk, the endless promotion and more uses of the word “stupendous” than I thought humanly possible on weeks of WWE programming. We are here. At the gates of the show of shows. This is what it’s all about. This is the grandaddy of them all. This is WrestleMania! Please god let it deliver more than last year. Anyway, here goes for this two-night showcase of the immortals….wonder if The Iron Shiek has got to the ring yet? (Not many of you may get that gag!).
Night #1 – WrestleMania Saturday
We open up with “America the Beautiful”, performed by Bradley Gilbert (insert the “I’m at a loss” Harry Hill TV burp Gif here) on this year’s grand WrestleMania stage. WWE really do some of their best work with these Mania stages, I miss the days when every PPV looked and felt so distinctive.

Match #1: Smackdown Tag Team Championship – The Usos def. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The Usos opened the most stupendous two-night WrestleMania in history looking to set the tone for The Bloodline and spoil Boogs’ first-ever appearance on The Grandest Stage of Them All. The guitar riffing herald thrilled not only his partner Nakamura, but the WWE Universe in attendance at AT&T Stadium as well with stunning feats of strength. This included going down to one knee while vertical suplexing Jey Uso, but the Usos didn’t become the longest-reigning SmackDown Tag Team Champions in history without taking a few punches. WWE 2K has been a bizarre franchise up until this point. As the WWE games series went from SmackDown to SmackDown vs. Raw to WWE 2K, the titles themselves gradually morphed into a chaotic attempt by their various developers to keep building on the foundation just enough to keep players interested year after year. When WWE 2K15 came out, the series clearly stumbled in a desperate attempt to start over. The series’ engine was eventually redesigned from the ground up, and things felt like they were back to square one. In the process, though, so many match types, the Create-a-Wrestler function, and other bells and whistles had to be cut or simplified so the franchise could start from scratch. The WWE 2K teams built on that fresh start across the following several games, and while we’re still missing legacy features like the wonderfully bonkers Create-a-Story mode, the series feels...

After a strangely acclaimed but I felt disappointingly 50/50 WrestleMania, the fans’ next return is looking to loom at the biggest party of the summer SummerSlam, until then we are back in a new Thunderdome, and that’s not the only thing that is back. Backlash for years was the Mania follow-up event from 1999 to 2009, until it was shelved for a few years and reborn in 2016, since then the event has jumped around the summer and autumn seasons. Now, the event is back where it belongs and has been renamed WrestleMania Backlash. But – barring the highly intriguing Universal title picture with Roman Reigns, Cesaro and Roman’s at loggerheads cousins Jey and a returning Jimmy Uso – the build up was pretty dire, with Raw especially needing a desperate jolt of energy. In spite of this, the card looked solid from a wrestling standpoint, so was this another Backlash to remember or...

To condense the career of Jim Ross into a single article isn’t easy. The man has been the voice of pro-wrestling for so many of us for such a long time, it’s hard to truly highlight how much he means on an emotional level, but also… he’s done so much in the business too, as an announcer at ringside, but also behind the scenes, working with talent and even assembling one of the most stacked and incredible pro-wrestling rosters in history. Still, I’m a glutton for punishment, so I’ll at least try to talk about his career, highlighting some of the, well… highlights, whilst also urging you to check out Jim Ross’s books, Slobberknocker and Under the Black Hat, for an in-depth and entertaining glimpse into the life and career of the man himself.

Steve Austin’s WWE interviews have, at times, been a mixed bag, but most of them have offered some unique insights and entertaining moments, especially those with Vince McMahon, Triple H, The Undertaker and this one, with Kurt Angle.
Angle has had one hell of a career, both as an Olympic wrestler and a pro-wrestler, and Steve Austin, in his humanistic and working-man manner, speaks with his former opponent and peer about that career, the ups and downs he’s experienced in his personal life, and all in-between. It’s a long, riveting interview that feels honest and open, but manages to keep things light enough at times so as not to be overly dark. Kurt talks with a matter of factness that goes a long way to making him appear likeable and changed from his years as a man struggling with so-called “demons”.

Welcome, one and all, to part two the second annual Nerdly WWE Top 50! I began this idea last year. Our version of such established ranking lists as the “Pwi 500” and the like, but just with WWE in mind. I mean, I watch other products and promotions, like Aew, New Japan, Ring of Honor and Nwa, but… sticking to one promotion, the promotion I tend to watch the most, makes sense, and makes this one-man-job a lot easier to do. This list will cover the last twelve months, from September 2019 until August of 2020.
Like last year, this will take into account work-rate, match-quality, visibility of the workers on television, their promo work, but also… and this is important to note, the way that they’ve been used. You see… there are men and women in WWE who, if they were used more often and booked in a more substantial manner, would...

Now, this isn’t just going to be an article in which an anti-Brock guy rips on Brock Lesnar. I mean, sure… I’m not really a fan of Brock Lesnar in 2020. Back in the mid-2000s when Lesnar was working with the likes of Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle, putting on Iron Man matches on Smackdown and being positioned as the “Next Big Thing”, I was all for this big beast of a wrestler being given that gigantic push to the top of the card. He was a new face, he could work, and he had a look that made everybody stop and take notice. It’s 2020 now, some 18 years after he made his WWE debut, and I feel like it’s way beyond the time for him to hang up his WWE gear and step away.
So, it’s been in the news this past week or so...

I’ve previously given lists here on Nerdly of the Top Ten WrestleMania matches of the 80s and the 90s, so it only makes sense to delve into the ten best Mania matches of the 2000s. There were some good ones, that’s for damn sure, and while some of your favourites may not be present, I’m sure you’ll agree that all of these are classics from the decade. Here we go…

I’ve admired and been a fan of Jim Ross’ work since I first heard him do commentary at the start of the 90s when I began my love affair with pro-wrestling. I was immediately drawn in by the passionate, educational and concise manner in which Jr called matches and told stories, allowing us fans sitting on the couch at home to truly Feel what was happening in those centres, gardens, arenas and domes, live. Listening to Jim Ross calling Raw each week, Pay Per Views every month, and various other shows from Mid South to WCW to WWE, and now listening to his work in Aew, has always been a joy. I’m a big fan, and so I was beyond excited when Under the Black Hat, the sequel to Ross’ first autoobiography, Slobberknocker, was announced.

There are a whole bunch of autobiographies out there from a load of wrestlers, and the world of bodyslams and Monday night warfare is not short of a million crazy stories, so these books tend to be jam-packed with entertaining anecdotes, life stories, road-tales and a variety of things to keep fans (and perhaps some non-fans) hooked from page-one. I thought it might be fun to assemble a top ten list of what I feel are the ten best wrestler autobiographies out there right now. We’re fast approaching the release of Jim Ross’ second book, Under the Black Hat, which will be released at the end of March, so what better time to talk about wrestling books, that right now? Let’s go!

So, WWE have been releasing content about the beloved Attitude Era for years. Hell, they’ve been releasing stuff about it since that era ended in around 2001. Now, in 2020, we’re seeing a change in focus with WWE releasing content about the Ruthless Aggression Era, an era that occurred in around 2003 and would last a few years. Now… the title of this article is a bit of a strange one because I don’t want you to misunderstand, there was a lot to love about this era, but… there was also a hell of a lot of bad going on too.
This, for me, was the period of wrestling that I found it the hardest to sit through. I’ve been watching pro-wrestling now for over 28 years, but never have I found it more difficult to enjoy than during this time. Sure, we had amazing performers like Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit,...

Match #1: Rey Mysterio def. Angel Garza The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
It took a little while longer than expected, but Rey Mysterio got his man. One month after Angel Garza put The Ultimate Underdog out of action with a thunderous Ddt on the concrete, Mysterio earned long-awaited retribution by delivering Garza some much-needed humility in the form of a singles loss. Okay, so maybe not humility. Garza’s self-confidence is … healthy, to put it mildly. But he...

Match #1: Angel Garza def. Humberto Carrillo The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Humberto Carrillo will fight the good fight until the last breath leaves his body, but the last breath may well leave his body before he figures out an answer for Angel Garza. The suave former Nxt Cruiserweight Champion once again outsmarted his do-gooder cousin, pulling ahead at the tail end of a match that was both incredibly crisp and amusingly petty. The two were just as likely to superkick each other as go to the ground in a slap fight like they were play-wrestling on the couch. The...

Welcome back folks. So, being a fan of wrestling means you see the same conversations and discussions going on between fans, discussions that never really change. In all the time I’ve been watching pro-wrestling, for twenty-seven years, the question “what’s the best PPV ever” has come up. It’s all about opinion, really. It’s all about choice. What one wrestling fan likes, another wrestling fan might hate, and visa versa. I, however, like to make things difficult for myself, and as seen as we now have the WWE Network (wonder how much it costs…) at our disposal, a wonderful and deep service, I can easily revisit a whole bunch of shows and compile a list of what I, personally, think are the ten best WWE (or WWF) Pay-per-views ever. I won’t talk about Ecw or WCW here, or New Japan Pro Wrestling, or Aew or any other promotion.

It’s been eighteen years since World Championship Wrestling closed its doors when it’s number one competitor, WWE, bought it after its decline in the early 00s. Before that all happened, however, and before WCW became a messy, awkward, strange shadow of what it used to be, it was a successful and entertaining product that was packed full of some truly influential and interesting concepts. So, I thought it might be fun to talk about Six things that WCW did that WWE could implement into their product today, and why it would be a good thing to do so. WWE, in 2019, has eight (soon to be nine) hours of weekly television to fill and PPV’s and Specials popping up monthly or more. That’s A Lot of content to write and produce, and sometimes it can result, as we’ve seen, in things getting stale, or seeming a little same-old.

So, fans of WWE (and wrestling in general) will likely have heard the latest news that Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff, two mainstays of pro-wrestling for decades, have been given brand-new roles in WWE as Executive Directors of Raw and Smackdown Live respectively. These, as far as news has told us, aren’t on-screen roles, but will give Heyman and Bischoff control over their respective brands and the two men will be responsible for overseeing the creative output of each show.
This is huge news and has been greeted with more positive than negative by fans. I’m in the camp that says “yay, something new to help shake things up and possibly improve the overall WWE product” and so should everyone else be.
2019 pro-wrestling is a very different animal to the animal that growled and prowled when Heyman and Bischoff were in charge of Ecw and WCW respectively in the late 90s.

WWE’s stable of performers are on the road more than 200 nights a year, told when and where to perform, and sign exclusive contracts that bar them from appearing on any other wrestling company’s programming. In spite of all that, they aren’t granted full-time-employee status by Vince McMahon’s publicly traded company — rather, they’re independent contractors who must provide their own health insurance.
That — and the overall well-being of WWE wrestlers, a startling number of whom have died early — was the subject of a deep dive on last night’s episode of “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.” Oliver pulled no punches during the 23-minute segment, beginning with this opening salvo: “While the character Vince [McMahon] is an asshole, it’s important to know that the real Vince is also an asshole,” he said, “and many fans legitimately hate him because, while the WWE has made him a billionaire,...

John Oliver is a professional wrestling fan, a fact he gleefully cited on Last Week Tonight. But he’s disgusted by how promoter World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has treated its wrestlers over the years — from intense work schedules to limited health benefits. With WrestleMania, the company’s flagship event, set for April 7th, the comedian devoted the main segment of Sunday’s show to this subject — focusing on the controversial business practices of WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

World Wrestling Entertainment on Monday hit back against a Sunday segment on HBO's Last Week Tonight in which host John Oliver criticized CEO Vince McMahon and the organization's supposed lack of care for its athletes.
Along with clips of wrestlers who have died at a relatively young age, including Eddie Guerrero (at age 38), Randy "Macho Man" Savage (58), Chyna (46) and "King Kong" Bundy (61), Oliver discussed McMahon's professional wrestling monopoly, which last year raked in $930.2 million in revenue.

Match #1: The Reptile Tribe defeated The Rabbit Tribe and Sammy Guevara, Ivelisse and Xo Lishus – Trios Title Elimination Match
My Take: 3 out of 5 – This was a good match that had lots of action, but felt like it was less than the sum of its parts. I’d call this an old-fashioned lucha match, complete with wild spots and blood in all the wrong places… actually, the blood worked out where it was. The wrestling was fast and furious and made every-one look like a psychopath. The star of the match was Guevara, who has had one hell of a year and got a chance to show what many of us had been missing. Kevin Kross,...

WWE finds itself at the heart of an international incident. If you've missed the news over the last week, Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a permanent U.S. resident who writes for the Washington Times, went into the Saudi consulate in Turkey almost two weeks ago, and he never left. According to Turkish officials, Khashoggi was murdered by a Saudi hit team and dismembered.
Khashoggi has been critical of his native Saudi Arabia in his writing and reporting, especially critical of the Saudi royal family.
This is a big story. President Trump has awkwardly defended the U.S. still doing business with Saudia Arabia because of the amount of money the government spends on U.S.-made weapons.
WWE also has a large business interest with Saudi Arabia. This past spring, the company ran The Greatest...

For as long as I can remember — dating back to the days of the WWE Smackdown vs Raw series of video games — I’ve wanted developer Yuke to dump the tired old gameplay formula that has formed the basis of their long-running WWE series of games. Strangely though, WWE 2K19 doesn’t do a lot different from previous iterations, but the small changes they have made to the gameplay make it a lot more focussed on presenting the pro-wrestling product as it should look and feel.

Match #1: Matt Sydal beat Zachary Wentz
This was a quick spurt of a match that was all about feeding a good wrestler to Sydal, who has built some momentum as a bizarre zen character, as of late. I always worry about wasting a talented fighter like Sydal in short matches like this, but since I never raised the money to buy Tna/Impact, I would suppose that it’s not my problem. I always wonder what decisions I would have made had I actually gotten the funding to make an offer to Dixie Carter. There’s a big chance that I would have been harshly rejected, but had I been able to get the company,...

In 2014, Marvel and Netflix revealed they would not only be making sweet superhero television together, but that their ambitions went well beyond just creating a few shows starring comic book characters. No, the plan was to create an integrated world which would live within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but more importantly launch four unique superpowered-esque forces with four individual series, to be eventually united as a team of heroes defending New York City.
It might have seemed crazily ambitious at the time, but very soon the first season of “The Defenders,” featuring the stars of “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist,” premieres on Netflix.

During the big Hall H Comic-Con presentation for Ready Player One, the first teaser trailer was released for the film, and if you haven't seen it yet, you can watch it here. I absolutely loved what I saw and I think fans are going to get the incredible adaptation that we are all hoping for.
One of the many cool things that was shown in the trailer was a shot of the Iron Giant with Parzival. That was a visual I wasn't expecting to see and I was so excited when it popped up!
After the trailer ended, one of the first things that Spielberg made a point of saying is that the Iron Giant was going to play a major role in the story! Iron Giant doesn't have a big role in the book, but if you've read the book you know there's a big important story element involving giant robots.

Despite being one of WWE's best and long-lasting talents, Chris Jericho has never truly gotten his due at WrestleMania.
Sometimes in wrestling, there’s the question of how much is enough. When Cm Punk stormed out of WWE, one of the big reasons was that he felt cheated out of being treated as a top guy. Yes, he got to be WWE Champion longer than anyone else in years, but he was always deemed less important than John Cena and his main goal, main-eventing WrestleMania, was pulled out from under him once Batista came back into the fold.
Some people side with him and feel that his anger was justified and that if he wasn’t going to reach the heights he intended to with his hard work, he had every right to leave them high and dry. Others will argue that he should have been happy with what he had.
