To get to a happy ending in a Tom Hanks movie, an innocent character has to pay the price. Here's the proof...

With the best part of $10bn banked for his movies across his career, Tom Hanks remains one of the biggest and most interesting movie stars on the planet. His most recent performance in Captain Phillips, for instance, was comfortably one of his best. And looking back on Hanks’ career, the path of increased boldness and range is easy to chart.
Furthermore, he’s achieved his successes without public meltdowns, without signs of turning into a diva, and without putting us through many poor films at all. The man is a hero.
Well, to everyone but certain characters in his movies. For, on rewatching Big, we became aware of an alarming trend: that there tends to be a character in a Tom Hanks movie whose role is to...

The prequel to the smash hit, Shootout At Lokhandwala, is based on Hussain S. Zaidi’s bestslling investigative book – Dongri to Dubai. Adapting a non-fiction book into a film requires special skills because of the need to sieve all the facts presented in the book into the film’s narrative and all this while, keeping the film entertaining! This is exactly the reason I was intrigued to watch this film and to see what Sanjay Gupta had done with the subject material.

Shootout At Wadala continues to stay in news. While the casting for this Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor film is waiting to be finalised, it was recently announced that Kangna Ranaut was the latest entrant. Though the makers didn't hide the fact that Vidya Balan was their first choice, even Asin's name had cropped up recently. While the Ready actress was heard claiming that she had decided to opt out of the film due to date issues, Sanjay and Ekta stood their ground stating that she was never approached. To substantiate that, Sanjay went on records recently and stated, "Asin was never approached. I think either she or her manager is delusional. She was never in the running for my film. We need a powerhouse performer for the film. So once it was clear that Vidya Balan couldn't do the film, our only choice was Kangna Ranaut, and not Asin.

Agra, Oct 20 – Studio Wave, a new recording studio here, is being endorsed by top names in Bollywood music but the sound engineer who set it up is also hoping it will help local talent thrive.
Satish Gupta, who founded it, told Ians: “The main motive of this studio is to promote local talent in music and singing. For want of decent facilities for recording, many artists either had to go to Mumbai or just give up.
“Now artists from all over Braj Mandal can get an opportunity to get the best results at my studio,” said Gupta, who recorded hits like “Bheege honth tere”, “Sandese aate hain” and “Kaho na pyaar hai”.
“A few days ago, Kunal Ganjawala had a look.

The General Hospital in Port-au-Prince is slowly becoming more organized. When I think of how it was the first night I arrived (no physicians and no real medical care) to what we have now (seven operating rooms, medicine wards, a pre-operation and post-operation area, a pediatrics area), it is amazing.
Thanks in part to the media attention we got from Bill Clinton's visit yesterday, the U.S. has designated the hospital as the central medical facility in the city. We will not be able to deny any medical care to Haitians, which is much better because some people were being diverted...

The team of Acid Factory has been invited to watch the Durand Cup Final. It is the oldest football tournament in the world. And team Acid Factory is very excited to be a spectator.
If sources are to be believed, it is Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea and Sanjay Gupta, who will be watching the match with the Sports Minister.

Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is an exception. Sound engineers take away rough edges from flat voices, add pauses and oomphs to songs, but hardly ever get credit for their work, rues Satish Gupta who gave his magical touch to hits like "Bheege honth tere", "Sandese aate hain" and "Kaho na pyaar hai"."Normally if a song becomes a hit, credit goes to the music director and the lyricist. But the crucial role of the sound engineer is rarely recognised," Gupta, who was in his hometown to assist an 80-minute live audio-visual spectacle "Mohabbat the Taj" at the Kalakriti auditorium, told Ians in an interview.Gupta says neither singers nor composers rehearse before the recording thanks technological advancement and a sound engineer has to do all the dirty work."Unlike earlier years today we use a lot of technology. We...
