Week 4 of Joey Graziadei’s season of “The Bachelor” brought major drama — and major viewership along with it.
The episode’s initial airing on ABC on Feb. 12 averaged 3.5 million viewers according to Live + Same Day data from Nielsen — a series high, up 9% from the week before — and with three days of delayed viewing across Hulu and other digital platforms, that number rose to 5.9 million.
The delayed viewing figure, calculated from a combination of Nielsen measurement and Disney’s proprietary streaming data, also represents a series high when compared to Multiplatform + 3 performance of previous episodes this season.
The first three episodes of Season 28 all opened to roughly 3.2 million viewers in Live + Same Day. After three days of multiplatform viewing, the premiere grew to 5.3 million viewers, Week 2 grew to 5.4 million, and Week 3 grew to 5.5 million, meaning that Week 4’s 69% jump from 3.5 million to 5.9 million viewers also marks the largest delayed viewing lift of the season.

Adams and Bristowe replace longtime host Chris Harrison, who departed the romance franchise after 19 years for good in June amidst a controversy about his comments on race. Adams and Bristowe have been well-received as Bachelorette hosts, and there had been speculation that they would return for Season 18, but this is the first official announcement.
Adams first came to national attention after appearing as a contestant on Season 23 of The Bachelor and the sixth season of spinoff Bachelor in Paradise. She went on to...

For the first time in the history of the franchise, The Bachelorette will produce two cycles in the same calendar year. The summer staple has been renewed by ABC for Seasons 17 and 18 to air in 2021. They will be headlined by two Bachelor Nation Nation favorites, Katie Thurston and Michelle Young, who both had been heavily speculated to be the next Bachelorette after becoming breakouts of the just concluded, marked by controversy 25th season of The Bachelor.
The Bachelorette Season 17 starring Thurston will go first, premiering in Summer 2021; the show’s 18th season toplined by Young will air in fall 2021. The announcement was made by The Bachelor: After the Final Rose host Emmanuel Acho during the hourlong special that followed the finale of the Matt James-fronted Season 25.

The Bachelorette is successfully in can ahead of its October 13 premiere as ABC gets ready to start production on its parent show The Bachelor later this month.
Rob Mills, SVP, Alternative Series, Specials & Late-Night Programming, ABC Entertainment, told Deadline that The Bachelor will start production at the end of September with a view to airing in January as per previous years.
While the show will run on a similar timeline to previous seasons – the last 12 seasons of the show began airing at the start of the new year, production will be in a pandemic-proof bubble, similar to The Bachelorette, to ensure that one of its biggest non-scripted series can get on the air.
Mills said he was buoyed by the fact that The Bachelorette, which wrapped on September 1, was able to finish production without any Covid-19 related incidents.

It looks like we are up for another first in The Bachelor franchise — a season that starts with one titular star and ends with another.
Speculation has been growing that Clare Crawley, who had been tapped to headline The Bachelorette‘s upcoming 16th season, has left the show, which has been filming in a quarantine bubble at an isolated location under Covid-19 guidelines. No one is commenting, but I hear that Crawley’s exit will be incorporated into the season’s storyline as she reportedly fell in love with one of the contestants and did not want to continue with the dating process, leading the other bachelors on.
Multiple reports have tipped Bachelor nation fan favorite Tayshia Adams as Crawley’s successor. She reportedly has joined the production after undergoing quarantine. Word is that some of the contestants previously eliminated by Crawley are coming back to vie for Adams’ heart.

ABC has chosen its first black romantic lead for The Bachelor, picking Matt James to head the 2021 version of the reality dating franchise.
James was set to be a prospective suitor for The Bachelorette before that show was hit by the production shutdown. He becomes the first black Bachelor in the show’s 18 year history, and the second only black lead in the franchise, following Rachel Lindsay, who was The Bachelorette in that show’s 13th season.
ABC revealed the news on Good Morning America. It comes after Lindsay urged the franchise to “acknowledge their systemic racism” in a blog post and more than 80,000 people signed a Change.org petition to cast a black lead on The Bachelor.
The 25th season of the Chris Harrison-hosted show is scheduled to air in 2021. The network has not revealed plans for the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, but ABC alternative boss Rob Mills...

Here is Crawley’s bio from ABC:
“A native of Sacramento, California, Clare, 38, enjoys spending her days playing with her two dogs Elby and Honey, doing yoga and hiking with friends.
