The duo behind the hit Nordic franchise “Snabba Cash,” helmer Jesper Ganslandt and screenwriter Oskar Söderlund, have re-teamed on “Cry Wolf,” an action thriller series starring British musician-turned-actor Eliot Sumner (“No Time to Die”).
Ordered by Swedish broadcaster TV4, “Cry Wolf” is based on “Vargasommar,” the anticipated debut novel of Hans Rosenfeldt, the BAFTA-nominated creator of “Bron” (“The Bridge”) and British series “Marcella.” Fifth Season has boarded international sales.
“Cry Wolf” will also star Eva Melander (“UFO Sweden”) and Henrik Dorsin (“Triangle of Sadness”). It will start filming in in Haparanda, near the border of Finland, in July. Melander is set play Hannah Wester, a 54-year-old police officer whose quiet life in Haparanda gets turned upside down after a wolf is found dead. The ordinary investigation becomes a sprawling criminal case connected to a bloody drug deal in Finland and sparks a series of brutal events.

Laura Mora’s “The Kings of the World” was named Best Film at the Zurich Film Festival Saturday.
The jury, led by Asghar Farhadi and featuring Clio Barnard, Daniel Dreifuss, Petra Volpe and Piodor Gustafsson, was taken with the coming-of-age drama about young friends living on the streets of Medellín, one that has triumphed at San Sebastian as well. Film Factory Entertainment handles sales.
“I am so happy the jury voted for it. I am convinced this film will stand the test of time,” artistic director Christian Jungen told Variety.
“It shows that film can be an art form, but it also provides social criticism on the situation in Colombia. Where poor, regular people can’t easily access their rights.”
Mora got the idea for the story while casting her feature debut “Killing Jesus,” she told Variety back in August.

Things get wild in the trailer for A24’s “Lamb,” premiering in theaters on Oct. 8.
Starring Noomi Rapace, Hilmir Snær Guðnason, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson and Ingvar Sigurðsson, the film follows a childless couple in rural Iceland who makes an alarming discovery in their sheep barn. Cannes — There’s a scene in “Moscow Noir” (“Dirigenten”), the brand new Studiocanal series screening Tuesday at Mipcom, where Tom, a rudderless and emotionally damaged stock market trader, visits an defunct inland oil field, the motionless rigs like stranded big metal birds in a field in pastoral Russia. The cameras cut from a shot of his hire car speeding down a dirt track to a medium shot as he gets out of the car. Then there’s a close up of a dog, an establishing shot from some height of Tom and a guard, the oil field behind; a closer up two-shot, then a one shot of the guard, a two-shot and a return to the establishing shot of Tom, the guard and the oil rigs.

After Let the Right One In led to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Tomas Alfredson could have easily continued down a trajectory that saw him take on more prestigious awards season fare. Thankfully, he seems to be defiantly bypassing that entirely with The Snowman, which looks to be a shlocky, rancorous crime drama, I noted in our fall preview. Starring Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson as their characters uncover clues leading them to a serial killer, hopefully Alfredson’s distinctive formal style is on full display for this grim-looking procedural.
Ahead of a release next month, a new international trailer has landed for the thriller. Also starring Chloë Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg, J.K. Simmons, Val Kilmer, James D’Arcy, and Toby Jones, this one seems to be skipping the fall festival circuit entirely, but nonetheless I’m still looking forward to whatever Alfredson has in store. Check out the trailer below, along with a new poster.

Director Tomas Alfredson returns with The Snowman, his first film since 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Adapted from the novel by Norwegian crime-writer Jo Nesbø, The Snowman follows Harry Hole (yes, really), a detective with unorthodox methods who finds himself investigating the disappearance of a woman whose scarf was found wrapped around a snowman.
Michael Fassbender plays Harry Hole (yes, really), and he leads a cast that includes Rebecca Ferguson, Chloë Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg, J.K. Simmons, Val Kilmer, James D’Arcy, and Toby Jones. An adaptation of The Snowman has been knocking around since at least 2013, when Martin Scorsese was first attached to helm the film, but then the Let the Right One In director took the helm and ahead of a release this fall, the first trailer has landed.
“It’s got that Scandi-noir element to it, for sure. I think it’s going to be very rich. I love working with Tomas Alfredson.

Tomas Alfredsen’s adaption of Jo Nesbø’s The Snowman, set to star Michael Fassbender, is to become the first major international production to shoot in Oslo.
Oslo culture councillor Hallstein Bjercke announced that filming will start in the Norwegian capital in early January 2016. The announcement marked Bjercke’s last official duty before he stepped down yesterday (Oct 21).
The decision was made after a meeting on Oct 8 with Norwegian culture minister Thorhild Widvey, Bjercke and executives from the UK’s Working Title and its owner Universal Pictures.
“The combination of Norway’s new incentive scheme including a 25% rebate for international feature film and TV series shot in Norway, the work in the City of Oslo – which will financially contribute to the production – and by the Norwegian Film Commission gave us the advantage over Stockholm,” said Bjercke.
Universal’s president of physical production, Jeff Laplante, discussed details of the new programme in Oslo and whether it would be possible...

Rebecca Ferguson ("Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation") is in early talks to co-star with Michael Fassbender in "The Snowman" for Working Title, Another Park Film and Universal Pictures.
The story revolves around detective Harry Hole (Fassbender), a loose cannon in the Oslo police force who investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.
The Harry Hole character has appeared in ten novels by Jo Nesbo, and the aim is for the film to potentially launch a series similar to the way James Patterson's Alex Cross books yielded multiple films.
Tomas Alfredson ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") will direct the film which was written by Soren Sveistrup. Piodor Gustafsson, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce.

Tomas Alfredson ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "Let the Right One In") is slated to direct an adaptation of "Headhunters" author Jo Nesbo's crime novel "The Snowman" for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures.
The story revolves around Harry Hole, a detective who has been featured in ten previous Nesbo novels. A loose cannon within the Oslo police force, Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.

Alfredson will work on a draft of the screenplay with writer Soren Sveistrup. Piodor Gustafsson, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce.

Berlin – Swedish director Tomas Alfredson will follow up his acclaimed Tinker Tailer Solider Spy with a remake of a Swedish classic. Alfredson picked up the rights to fantasy novel The Brothers Lionheart from Swedish children's author Astrid Lindgren (Pippi Longstocking) and, together with producer Peter Gustafsson, began shopping the project to buyers in Cannes last year. Director Olle Hellbom’s 1977 adaptation of the book, a story of two brothers who meet up in the afterlife and have fantastic adventures, is an enduring Scandinavian classic.
