Australia’s Nine Network has ordered a local version of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars and a two-part drama event series based on the late cricket maverick Shane Warne. Both shows were presented at Nine’s Upfront today.
Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars is the latest adaptation of celeb chef and present Ramsay’s cooking competition format, which All3Media International sells globally, after the original Fox show and the UK remake on the BBC. Endemol Shine Australia and Studio Ramsay are making the show, in which Ramsay and business mogul Janine Allis will mentor and guide competing two teams, with each contestant vying for their food business idea to be invested in and taken forward.
In the U.S. Fox ordered a second season of the format back in May, while the BBC’s Future Food Stars aired between late March and May. The Aussie version debuts next year.

Screenwriting is often such a lonely pursuit that Tamara Asmar really relishes her time brainstorming in writers’ rooms, likening the experience to being in a confessional.

“That feeds into stories, sparks ideas and takes you down different narrative pathways that you otherwise would not have. I have definitely contributed some stories, cleverly masked.”
Currently Asmar is juggling multiple projects in development including Aleph, an eight-part series created by Miranda Nation for Porchlight Films, a fantasy drama for Jungle Entertainment and a movie for Easy Tiger which she now thinks is better suited to TV.

Niki Aken.
When screenwriter Niki Aken started writing TV shows seven years ago, she was the only one with an Asian or non-white heritage in the room.
That situation did not change until two years ago when the writer, who has a Malaysian father and an Aussie mother, and Benjamin Law began developing a show for Fremantle.
“For the first five years nearly everyone I worked with was middle class, Anglo and aged 40-plus,” she tells If.
As a founder member of Australian Writers’ Guild’s Diversity and Inclusion Action Committee alongside Law, Kodie Bedford, Jaime Browne, Mithila Gupta and Que Minh Luu, she has been heartened by the much greater diversity on screen and in writers’ rooms in the past couple of years.

Grab your backpack, apply some sunscreen, and keep your wits about you, because we could be returning to Mick Taylor territory in the outback. Since we first saw him approach Liz, Kristy, and Ben's campfire in 2005's Wolf Creek, the malevolent Mick has popped up again in 2013's Wolf Creek 2 and in two prequel novels, but the rugged killer with a warped sense of humor isn't done yet. John Jarratt is set to reprise his role as Mick Taylor in a six-part series for the Australian video-on-demand service Stan, and Greg McLean, the writer/director of the two Wolf Creek films and co-author of the tie-in books, is developing the miniseries.
A project from Screentime (a Banijay Group company and Emu Creek Pictures), the six-part Wolf Creek series is described as "a compelling, psychologically complex and visually spectacular suspense series driven by a young woman’s quest for justice.

Georgia Flood as Alice behind the scenes of Anzac Girls. .A Screentime production for ABC TV.
.
While writer-producer Felicity Packard was researching an ABC WW1 drama, she made a shocking discovery: More than 3,700 Australian and New Zealand nurses served overseas during the war- but only seven were awarded military medals.
The reason for that anomaly is one of the recurring themes of Anzac Girls, a six-hour series based on real people and events at the Western Front and Gallipoli, which premieres at 8.30 pm on Sunday August 10.
Packard believes the Australian Army refused to honour the nurses because officers were opposed to young women being involved in the war.
.The Army was quite hostile to them,. Packard tells If. This attitude is personified in the show by Colonel Thomas Fiaschi (John Waters), who, she says, .was obstructionist and critical of the nurses.. Those medals were awarded to people of .other ranks,...

Marta Dusseldorp.s Crownies character, senior crown prosecutor Janet King, will star in her own self-titled eight-hour drama series.
Janet King will be a departure from its parent show - while both shows are legal dramas, the new series will lean more towards a political-thriller than drama.
Despite heavy promotion, the Screentime-produced Crownies was not a ratings winner and was quickly pushed to a later timeslot by the ABC last year.
Screentime.s Des Monaghan said: .It was apparent to us at Screentime and to the ABC, that the audience had a great deal of affection for Janet King. In conjunction with ABC TV, we have developed an exciting legal political-thriller which allows us to welcome back the brilliant Marta Dusseldorp as crown prosecutor Janet King..

Tim Winton’s much-loved Australian novel Cloudstreet has been adapted for the small screen two decades after
it was first published. Laine Lister visited the West Australian set to document the ride.
When the screen rights to Cloudstreet returned to Australian ownership, Tim Winton devotees celebrated the great coup; the quintessential Australian story was finally coming home.
Years earlier, Hollywood producers had snapped up the Cloudscreet screen rights after hearing of its broad commercial appeal. The novel has been translated into 25 languages and gained literary acclaim through the Miles Franklin and NBC Awards. It has even found its way into the hearts and imaginations of thousands of Aussie kids after it was added to the senior secondary English curricula in many states.
Despite this, the story sat idle in the Us until a holding deal matured. It was then that Australian patriot Des Monahan of Screentime swooped in and brought it home.

The blog Vulture says Starz CEO Chris Albrecht is “clearly hoping Underbelly’s phenomenal success in Australia can be replicated” in the Us, although the remake won’t use the Australian scripts and is instead researching American crime families that could have effective story arcs built around.
The report says that “assuming the right real-life inspiration can be found quickly, a script could be ready well before the end of the year. If Albrecht likes what he sees on the page, insiders say he’s prepared to eschew the usual pilot stage for Underbelly, and go straight to series.”

Another format from Down Under is making its way to American television.
Fox is developing "The Informant," a one-hour project based on an upcoming Australian series created by Greg Haddrick. Tom Szentgyorgyicq is adapting the format for Fox, 20th TV and Alchemy TV.
He describes "Informant" as "Jason Bourne at home." It centers on Richard Button, a regular middle-class suburban dad who works as a police informant for an elite federal investigative agency. "It's a blend of a spy undercover procedural and a family story about his life at home," Szentgyorgyi said.
Button's background is a mystery, but his detailed knowledge of international crime networks and money laundering suggests that he might have been involved in espionage.
"The intelligence officers are working with him but also investigating him," said Burrad Marsh, head of TV series development at Alchemy, which recently brokered a deal for ABC to share Cbc's comedy pilot "18 to Life."
Two upcoming comedies, NBC's "Kath & Kim" and Fox's "Sit Down, Shut Up" also are based on Australian formats.
"Informant" was packaged by Endeavor.
