DayZ, DayZ, give me your answer do - the survival horror epic's coming to consoles next year...
Revolutionary apocalyptic survival horror game DayZ is finally exiting Early Access and will soon be available to Xbox One owners.
"As soon as the PC Beta is headed in a way we like, we're still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game," said developer Bohemia Interactive in a post on the DayZ blog designed to keep DayZ's fans in the loop regarding what's coming next. "All of that will (and must) happen next year - meaning we're just about to start what could possibly be the most exciting year for DayZ so far. In short: DayZ will be out of Early Access next year, and we'll also finally deliver it to console players in 2018."
For perspective's sake,...

After tackling the Mmo genre with the wonderfully satirical expansion, Coffee Stain Studios is turning its astute eye to another saturated category of video games for Goat Simulator‘s soon-to-be-released update. Entitled GoatZ, the $5 expansion will introduce fans of the ludicrous platformer to the flesh-eating world of zombies when it releases on May 7.
Originally, the studio had planned the aforementioned Mmo add-on as the final content pack for Goat Simulator. However, after being inundated with requests to continue to support the title, Coffee Stain Studios duly obliged with GoatZ. In a press release, the indie company outlined some of the features we can expect when the Dlc releases later this week, all the while poking fun at the genre’s conventions just for good measure.
Mandatory crafting system because everyone else is doing it. Zombies that bug out. There’s a pun here about actual living bugs, but we’re not going to bother.

The developers of the hugely anticipated (yet sadly disappointing) Destiny have released statistics about the game, according to a report by Eurogamer. Amongst other facts, Bungie has announced that the online first-person shooter has been played by nearly 13 million people worldwide since its release in September.
The actual statistic places the number at exactly 12,869,006 players at the time of writing and we can only assume that that number is going to increase as we go into 2015. Considering the player count was around 3.2 million by October, that is quite a leap forward for the game.
13 million is a staggering amount of gamers that have logged onto Destiny, and it’s only been a few months. To put that number into perspective, DayZ developer, Dean Hall, said the standalone version of the multiplayer zombie survival game has boasted some three million players, while World Of Warcraft has an estimated ten million subscribers.

There was a time when players assumed that Bohemia Interactive’s post-apocalyptic survival title DayZ would remain in Steam’s Early Access in perpetuity. After all, this is a game that has flirted with release since 2012, after creator Dean Hall stated that an early, standalone build would be available to play by the year’s end — however, it wasn’t until December 2013 that the zombie-infested mod arrived.
Now, though, it appears as though the game is beginning to make some real, tangible headway, after the studio confirmed that a playable beta has been scheduled for late 2015, while the full and final build will make its debut in 2016. The beta will be available for $43.99 — which is slightly higher than the current price of $29.99 — and Bohemia confirmed that the asking price for DayZ will gradually increase in price as the title inches ever closer to release.

PlayStation hit hard and then even harder with horror announcements during their press conference today. To conclude their initial indie segment, Dean Hall from Bohemia Interactive took the stage to announce Day Z will be coming to PS4.
The game boasted an amazing start on PC, with Day Z moving one million units in one month. Day Z is a first person, player vs. player shooter that throws zombie chaos into the mix. Hall describes Day Z as an “open world zombie apocalypse.”
There is no setting more classic for zombies than complete dystopia.
Players start on the beach with nothing and must amass resources as they decide whom can they trust. No game footage was shown, and no release date was given.

DayZ is going to break away from the PC and allow Playstation 4 players to start murdering each other over cans of beans. Designer Dean Hall spoke during the Playstation Gamescom 2014 conference today, confirming that the multiplayer survival game will arrive on the console. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to give us any real information as to when we should expect it. He did mention though that while Bohemia is working on the PS4 version, it’s still going to continue improving upon the experience for PC players.
Quite frankly, I’m a bit worried about this one. DayZ is a fine game. However, it is nowhere near finished for the PC and is still being sold as an early access game. In fact, you could argue that the free mod version of the game for Arma II is in a more complete stage.
I imagine that Bohemia will have two...

After fostering zombie-survival title DayZ to monumental success, its creator Dean Hall has announced plans to leave Bohemia Interactive by the end of 2014. Speaking with Eurogamer, the lead developer expressed his desire to establish his own independent studio in New Zealand in the hope of crafting a new and improved multiplayer experience.
Although this invariably signals the end of Hall’s creative output on the project, he assured fans that by year’s end, his contribution to the eccentric, post-apocalyptic title will be all but complete.
“I’m really good at risk-taking and making other people take risks, I’ve always been good at that in my life. But eventually, that’s the bad person to have. Eventually, you don’t want the guy telling you to go over the top and get through. So at some point I’ll be a disaster for the project, at least in a leadership role.

Apparently, the only thing that’s keeping DayZ lead designer Dean Hall’s survival game from coming to the Xbox One is Microsoft’s self-publishing restriction, which keeps indie developers from being able to get their games on the console without the aid of a publisher. On top of this, Microsoft charges a hefty fee for developers to... Read More...

We all know that Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis are total BFFs. Following the resounding success of Lincoln, which earned Mr. Day-Lewis yet another Oscar, they are now both considering a reunion for a very different type of American story in Thank You For Your Service.
The film is based on the novel by David Finkel and is about soldiers returning from the Iraq war and their difficulties in reintegrating with society. It’s a follow-up to his book The Good Soldiers, which followed the 2-16 Infantry Battalion on the frontlines in Baghdad, their problems and grueling work, and how they dealt with being key players in the fifteen month surge. Thank Your For Your Service focuses on some of the same men as they return home and have to deal with being back in civilian society, with Ptsd and other challenges facing the servicemen who have seen extreme active conflict.

After announcing back in August that the wildly popular Arma II mod DayZ would be getting its own standalone release, creator Dean Hall explained during Eurgamer Expo that he has been crunching to get the sprawling zombie action game a standalone release in order to beat copycats and imitators.
When speaking at the event, Hall said that gamers should expect an alpha version of the game possibly by December. "And it's going to be cheap," he promises. "We've decided that we don't need to sell a heap of units in order for us to be Ok with where it's going. The more units we sell of it the more ambitious we get, because the project has the better resources." Those resources could potentially translate into new features early next year--features that Hall is wary about sharing at this point with competing, broadly very similar titles like War Z spinning up out in the wild.

Dean Hall discussed how the treacherous jungles of Brunei helped inspire the horror title DayZ. Hall tells how his time in the jungle serving with the New Zealand Armed Forces where he had to scavenge food and water to survive helped bring about the idea for the apocalyptic game.
“I became very interested in a survival-type game, in the levels of subtleties and decision-making that's forced on you based on an emotional context. What happened in Brunei made me really reflect on those elements of the training exercise that brought out an emotional response in me. That's what DayZ is all about," said Dean Hall. You can read more on the interview here.
