Marjorie Taylor Greene has been booted from the Maga-loving, far-right House Freedom Caucus after calling caucus member Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) “a little bitch” on the House floor last month.
“A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-Colo.) told Politico’s Jordain Carney on Thursday.
“I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was publicly saying things about another member in terms that no one should use,” Harris said.

After days of public humiliation, and a chaotic 14th loss, Republican Kevin McCarthy has finally been elected Speaker of the House of Representatives on the 15th vote.
Just past Friday midnight, the Bakersfield, California, congressman at last secured the votes necessary to take hold of the gavel, following a grueling series of failed ballots that saw a gang of nearly 20 Republicans repeatedly lock arms against the longtime House GOP leader.
The impasse began to break on Friday morning. McCarthy held a call with Republicans, proclaiming he and the party were in a “good position.

Update: The weeklong slog to launch a new Congress continued with a 13th ballot, as Kevin McCarthy picked up a vote yet still was short a majority.
Rep. Andy Harris (R-md) shifted his vote to McCarthy, giving the Republican leader 214 votes in the latest round. That’s still three short of what he needed to win the speakership.
Meanwhile, reports are emerging of the concessions that McCarthy made to win over the holdouts, including requiring just one member to file a motion to remove the speaker. Other concessions, according to Politico, would require a vote on a balanced budget amendment and there would guarantees for giving members of the Freedom Caucus seats on committees.
Hakeem Jeffries gained a vote in the latest round, as Rep. David Trone (D-md) made it to the floor after having surgery earlier in the morning. He drew loud cheers as he made his way to...

Kevin McCarthy really, really, really wants to be speaker of the House of Representatives. It’s not coming. The 118th Congress began on Tuesday, and though Republicans won control of the chamber last November, a not-insignificant portion of the party remains steadfastly opposed to giving McCarthy the gavel. McCarthy has lost three consecutive speakership ballots, with 19 Republicans opposing him on the first two, and 20 on the third.
Rep. Byron Donalds joined the 19 other defectors to vote against McCarthy on the third ballot, which means McCarthy is drifting even further away from securing the majority necessary.

After blasting GOP leadership for placing “QAnon congresswoman” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on the Education Committee, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said extra security resources were needed to protect some of her colleagues because “the enemy is within the House of Representatives.”
Pelosi made the remarks during a Thursday news conference while reassuring the more than than 30 lawmakers who penned a letter to the speaker and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy this week looking for more personal security resources. The ask was prompted by a rise in threats directed at lawmakers...

Update: The Supreme Court rejected the suit, saying in a brief order that Texas “has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections.”

One hundred and twenty-six House Republicans, more than half the caucus, have signed onto an amicus brief in a Texas lawsuit that is asking the courts to invalidate millions of votes from four swing states won by President-elect Joe Biden. Cinematographer Roger Deakins made it two-in-a-row tonight, winning his second consecutive Oscar for the one-shot World War I film 1917. This was Deakins’ 14th nomination and second career win. He took home the statuette last year for Blade Runner 2049.
Deakins thanked his fellow nominees, his wife, and crew, and a special thank you to director-writer Sam Mendes.
“This belongs to a lot of people that worked on this movie,” Deakins said during his acceptance speech. “It belongs to my wife, James, who worked on it with me. It belongs to my assistant and focus puller, Andy Harris, who is somewhere up there, who is the pinball wizard of focus pulling. And you’ll never know what he does, because he only notices it when he makes a mistake and he never does. It’s to Peter Cavaciuti and Charlie Rizek, our two fantastic operators. It’s to Gary Hymns and a great crew,...
