As you may have heard, Marvel Comics' "Edge of Venomverse" series is giving the Marvel Universe a complete Venom overhaul. A lot of classic Marvel characters are being infused with the Venom Symbiote. So far we've seen X-23 merge with Venom, Gwenpool, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and even Captain America, which you can see above.
Marvel artist Mike Hawthorne helped in developing the character designs for the "Edge of Venomverse" series and he has released an alternate design for the Venom version of Captain America and it's a lot more menacing looking than the design they ended up using that you can see above.
Hawthorne posted the images with the caption:
"Want a peek behind the scenes? Ok, I'm going to share some of the character design work I did for Marvel's Venomverse event where various Marvel characters get the venom symbiote. First up, Captain America (Captain Venom?). Anyway, enjoy!

These days, variant covers have become very serious business, effectively allowing the consumer to have alternate choices as to which pieces of dynamic artwork they can add to their respective collections. Some variants may be as common as standard covers or a few may be made available to each comic shop, thereby driving up the price tag. Heck, we’ve even seen the rise of retailer and con exclusive covers in recent years, causing certain editions of books to be sought after like the Holy Grail.
Not long ago, Marvel rolled out its hip hop variants, paying tribute to some of the great album covers the genre has had to offer over the years. Basically, they take a look at the original piece and give it a bit of a superhero spin. So, having...

When we think of collected editions, we normally picture a trade paperback or hardcover that compiles an average of five or six issues of a given storyline into one tome. But since Deadpool plays by nobody’s rules but his own, expect the ninth volume of his current series to be an exception, not the rule as it were.
Here’s the deal: As you may have heard, the upcoming Deadpool #30 is slated to be an oversized affair, effectively amounting to 80 pages. Given that, it will retail at $9.99, a bit heftier than the average Marvel book, which tends to be priced at $3.99.
What’s interesting about this situation is that the publisher is opting to release it as its own trade paperback in the fall, rather than having it join subsequent issues for a collection. Now, this isn’t unheard of, as it does bring to mind DC Universe: Rebirth...

So I just got back from Awesome Con DC 2015, and happily, it lived up to its name once again, because it was pretty darned awesome!
It was also kind of interesting to realize that every year I’ve gone has been a different experience, thanks to what I was doing each year. The first year, which was of course also smaller than the current con, I was reporting for ComicMix but did not have any other responsibilities. That meant I had time to see pretty much all of the floor and meet any guests I’d like, plus doing great, longer-form interviews with the talented Phil Lamarr and Billy West. Last year, I was running programming, so I saw a whole lot of back hallways, the exhibit hall whooshing by at a fast clip several times as I hurried around, many great volunteers, and a few guests for just long...

That’s right – if you add together all the Deadpool series (creatively), April’s Deadpool #45 marks Wade Wilson’s landmark 250th issue! How will he be celebrating? Death! No, really. Wade’s about to reach the end of the line, but he’s not gone yet. Prepare for a colossal-sized series finale the likes of which you’ve never seen before as Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and more bid the Merc With a Mouth adieu, and explore the legacy he leaves behind.
First, Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and Mike Hawthorne serve up a 30-page main story as, the villainous Ultimatum finally makes their move. They’re coming at Deadpool for revenge – all of them! And we mean All Of Them. It’s going to be a bloodbath, but Wade’s not going down without a fight though.
Then – Gerry, Brian and Scott Koblish bring you a long lost, full-length Deadpool tale.

Gail Simone has confirmed that she will be returning to Marvel for the recently-announced wedding of Deadpool which will unfold within the pages of Deadpool #27. Fans may remember that Simone first began her [mainstream] run in the comic industry with Marvel’s Deadpool at the time, and although the series ended just a few issue later, Simone went on to launch a similarly-minded character series called Agent X in 2002.
After a dispute with the editor on Agent X, Simone then headed over to DC Comics where she’s been ever since, going on to write some of our favorite Batgirl stories as well helming DC’s New 52 relaunch of the Batgirl title.
With the release of Deadpool #27, Gail Simone will mark her first work for Marvel in 10 years as she joins an array of past Deadpool writers being assembled for the highly-anticipated Deadpool wedding issue.

This December, the Merc with a Mouth goes toe-to-toe with the S.H.I.E.L.D. in Deadpool #21 – the first issue in a brand-new story arc from the blockbuster writers Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, and red-hot artist Mike Hawthorne.
It’s been a while since S.H.I.E.L.D. had Deadpool re-kill the reanimated Presidents of the United States – and Agent Gorman of S.H.I.E.L.D. stiffed him on his well-earned pay! After all, he doesn’t do this for free, y’know? Now it’s time to collect what he’s owed – even if he’s gotta take down all of S.H.I.E.L.D. to get paid! But with S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Preston’s consciousness still stuck in his head – how’s she going to feel about all this destruction? And is all this S.

The first Deadpool Marvel Now! story arc was about Deadpool fighting all the newly-resurrected dead American presidents, and this second arc is about Deadpool killing a bunch of superheroes who got their superpowers by selling their souls – which turns out to be an even better read than the first book!
Deadpool Volume 2: Soul Hunter kicks off with what could be one of my favourite Deadpool single issues yet. Set during 1979′s Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle, the “classic” Marvel book which establishes Tony Stark as an alcoholic, Deadpool shows up (despite being created by The Rob in 1991) and meets a demon called Vetis who tries to get him to keep Stark drunk. Deadpool heads off for a brilliant encounter with Tony, and Deadpool-esque dark comedy ensues.
I love this issue so much for so many reasons – it mimics the late 70s Marvel look perfectly, it makes fun...

Deadpool continues his merrily chaotic journey to kill off people who sold their souls to the demon Vetis for superpowers, while figuring out how to get a dead agent of Shield, Preston, out of his head and into her own body. As you might guess from the cover, this is the “Inferior” Deadpool disastrously teaming up with the Superior Spider-man (Doc Ock’s mind in Spider-man’s body) and fighting Spidey’s rogues gallery. And it is a hoot and a half!
We check in with Michael who’s now in Hell thanks to Deadpool, and Mike Hawthorne’s depiction of hell as being a never-ending queue in a blandly sterile, office-like environment with fluorescent lighting is spot on – that truly is Hell. This issue is Deadpool doing what Deadpool does best – killing superheroes. While telling jokes, of course.
Currently, Deadpool is sharing his headspace with another voice, Agent Preston, whose spirit/soul/mind was transplanted to Deadpool’s after her body was killed, and Michael, the incompetent magician who helped cause all that dead presidents’ stuff in the first story arc, is working on separating the two. Meanwhile the demon Vetis has tasked Deadpool with killing off folks whose souls he received in return for giving them superpowers.
It almost seems redundant to talk about plot in a Deadpool comic as really it’s secondary at best – the main and only thing should be what crazy scenes you get can the Merc with a Mouth into for the best laugh. Thankfully Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan are two of the funniest writers Marvel have on staff at the moment and give Deadpool...

Fear Agent has always been a series that I think would appeal to a lot of Geeks of Doom readers who maybe don’t read comics. It doesn’t deal with any of the standard superhero tropes of other comics, instead focusing on sci-fi action with smart writing and excellent art. Fear Agent has been chugging along for a few years, and is coming to an end next issue (at least for a while), so it is amazing to see that Fear Agent #31, part four of the Out of Step mini-series, is the best issue of the series so far [...]...

There are a lot of great comic book art blogs out there, beyond the deviantart pages of the world, and if you’re a comic book fan, these are webpages that you should be checking out on a daily basis. All this week, I’m going to highlight a few that I think are worthy of your attention or are just pages for some of my favorite artists.
Today, we look at a collective webpage, Comic Twart. Comic Twart was started in early 2010 and features work by nearly 20 different artists, who generally tackle a theme each week and show their different takes on that week's theme. The artists involved include Mike Hawthorne, Chris Samnee, Mitch Breitweiser, Tom Fowler, and Dave Johnson. The theme is generally a specific character, but it could be a more general concept. Recent themes have included Giant Monsters, Power Girl, The Flash, and Space Ghost [...]...

Every week they settle on a theme for which they all submit a piece. This week was an exercise in minimalism.
