The Talent Managers Association has announced the honorees and nominees for its 13th Annual Heller Awards, which recognize the industry’s talent reps – managers, agents and casting directors. Named after Liberace’s late manager Seymour Heller, this year’s ceremony will take place on May 28 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City. This year, the Tma also is partnering with Friends of Californians with Disabilities and honoring Breaking Bad actor R.J. Mitte with its Giving Back acknowledgment. Mitte played Walter White's son on the AMC drama and, like his character, he has a mild form of cerebral palsy.

Michael Douglas and Matt Damon give flawless performances in Behind The Candelabra
When we first heard about the HBO film based on the love affair of Liberace and Scott Thorson was going to star A-list actors like Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, based on the memoir by Thorson and directed by Academy Award-winner director Steven Soderbergh, one of the biggest questions was whether the film would be a camp-filled melodrama or a high-brow bio-pic about one of the most flamboyant entertainers the world has ever seen.
Thankfully, Behind the Candelabra, fell somewhere in between to be a solid, respectable telling of the time in the lives of these men and the love they shared.
Yes, there is plenty of camp to be had in the film. Since much of Liberace’s life on and off the stage was over-the-top, there’s no way it couldn’t be campy. But even in those campiest of moments,...

In a career that has spanned more than 40 years and 200 stars, Larry A. Thompson is accustomed to remaining behind the curtain. That will change Thursday when the spotlight lands on the veteran talent manager and producer as Thompson is presented with the Seymour Heller Award for lifetime achievement by the Talent Managers Association. “I was truly stunned when I got the call,” Thompson told TheWrap. “Management at times can seem unappreciated and invisible. In fact, being invisible is part of your job. Your job is to bring the spotlight to your client.” Also read: Lindsay Lohan Admits to Oprah She Lied:.

If Steven Soderbergh is truly done with feature films we should be thankful he left us with three great films, one after another, before his departure. With Magic Mike, Side Effects and now Behind the Candelabra that's three films in a row that most directors could not achieve the likes of over the course of a career, let alone the rest of Soderbergh's oeuvre from Sex, Lies, and Videotape to Traffic. Behind the Candelabra says as much about us as a society as it does about its two protagonists in a story that's surprisingly dark at times, just as it is emotionally rewarding, entertaining and even humorous. Tracing events from 1977-1986, the story follows the life of Scott Thorson (Matt Damon) as he goes from being a Hollywood animal handler to the dazzling lifestyle and palatial estate of famed Las Vegas entertainer Liberace (Michael Douglas). Growing up an orphan, moving from house to house,...

HBO has premiered a 12-minute making of featurette for their upcoming release of Steven Soderbergh's Behind the Candelabra, which is set to premiere at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in advance of its May 26 HBO debut at 9Pm. An extended version of the following featurette will premiere on HBO on May 22. Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace (Michael Douglas): virtuoso pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television. A name synonymous with showmanship, extravagance and candelabras, he was a world-renowned performer with a flair that endeared him to his audiences and created a loyal fan base spanning his 40-year career. Liberace lived lavishly and embraced a lifestyle of excess both on and off stage. In summer 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson (Matt Damon) walked into his dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair.

Actor, raconteur, vodka backer and relatively recent Empire webchat visitor Dan Aykroyd hasn’t been on the big screen since 2008’s War, Inc. (we’re choosing to ignore his vocal turn in Yogi Bear since our therapist advised us to block it from memory). But he’s back with a vengeance this year, as he’ll show up in The Campaign alongside Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis and has just signed on the dotted for a role in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind The Candelabra. The film, which will debut in the Us on cable channel HBO before heading to cinema screens internationally, focuses on the life of Liberace and follows the relationship with his live-in lover, Scott Thorson. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are playing Liberace and Thorson, and Aykroyd will be Seymour Heller, the musician’s long-time manager, who disapproved of the pairing.Soderbergh is directing from a script by Richard Lagravenese,...
