Exclusive: Kasey Inez (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Jahking Guillory (Black Lightning), Pedro Correa (The Middle) and Damon Gupton (Babylon) will topline Summer of Violence — the first feature written and directed by actress Nicki Micheaux (Lincoln Heights), which has wrapped production.
Summer of Violence is a coming-of-age pic, emerging from Micheaux’s time with the Sundance Writing Collab, which was shot in Colorado. The film from Three60 Films follows a young college grad, Naomi (Inez), who turns down law school to pursue poetry, despite her father’s objections. She subsequently struggles to survive in 1993 Denver, after being cut off by her father during a period of violent crime in the city known as the Summer of Violence. Guillory plays Naomi’s artist friend, Frank, with Correa as her boyfriend Richie, and Gupton as her father, Thomas.

Walton Goggins, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Damon Gupton, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams and Omar Miller round out the ensemble cast for Apple TV+’s limited series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. They join Samuel L. Jackson and Dominique Fishback in the six-episode series based on the acclaimed novel by best-selling author Walter Mosley.
In The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, produced by Apple Studios, Jackson stars as Ptolemy Grey, a 91-year-old man forgotten by his family, by his friends, by even himself. On the brink of sinking even deeper into a lonely dementia, Ptolemy experiences a seismic shift when he’s given the tremendous opportunity to briefly regain his memories, and uses this precious and fleeting lucidity to solve his nephew’s death and come to terms with his past.

Black Lightning is back for its fourth and final season. The CW announced in November 2020 that they would not be renewing the Black-led superhero drama for another season. We still have the 13-episode final season to look forward to, however, and the potential of a Black Lightning spin-off. In a previous statement, showrunner Salim Akil said of the latter: “While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I’m extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of Painkiller.”
For now, though, Black Lighting is back. Here’s what we thought of the Season 4 premiere. And here’s what to expect from next episode, “The Book of Reconstruction: Chapter Two”…
“The war between the 100 and the Kobra Cartel rages on; Lynn continues to be concerned about Jefferson; Jennifer’s curiosity is piqued by a new boy at school.

Richard Donner’s first feature post- Superman is a complete switcheroo — a small-scale character piece that delivers an impressive lineup of engaging actors. John Savage leads a ‘different’ ensemble of the walking wounded, that congregates at a neighborhood bar. Are friends the best therapy? The movie has a positive sports theme, and the way its characters overcome physical limits and psychological damage feels uplifting, never phony. Diana Scarwid earned an Oscar nomination, and the unappreciated Amy Wright is a heartbreaker in a strong, uncompromised role.

“And that’s a wrap. My final night on the set of @blacklightning,” he wrote, alongside a picture of his chair on-set.
“In December before X-mas I was told Chief Henderson is not in the plans for Season 4 and that I would be let go."
"My heart to a helluva hard working crew. Big praise to cast, writers, producers, staff, CW, WB.”
Gupton also gave a “special shoutout to all the great fans who greet me in the street, airports, restaurants. Your appreciation means the world to me. Know that I treasure it. Disappointed I’m not allowed to continue the ride with you but glad...

Black Lightning Season 2, Episode 3
Change is coming to Freeland, and no one is immune to it.
At Garfield High, change comes in the form of Principal Lowry, Jefferson Pierce's replacement. Lowry immediately puts metal detectors into the school, a clear departure from Jeff's policy of not treating the kids like criminals. From Lowry's somewhat sarcastic descriptor of Jefferson's assembly farewell as principal as "classy," it doesn't seem like Lowry is poised to listen to what these students need or want as a community. For an episode that is named after the new character, we don't get much Lowry here, but, from what we do see, it seems like his prinicipal philosophy is Jefferson Pierce's worst nightmare.
Speaking of Jeff's nightmares, Tobias Whale is finally arrested for the murder of Alvin Pierce,...
