Exclusive: When location scouting for Oppenheimer, production designer Ruth De Jong was tasked with finding a location to recreate Los Alamos. Although the actual town of Los Alamos was too modernized to use for the period piece, De Jong and her team spent some time there for research. “I began laying out the expanse of the town with our set designer Jim Hewitt,” she says. “We took these drawings, with plans and elevations, and made foam core architectural models in a quarter-inch scale.”
De Jong and her team landed on Ghost Ranch, which is along the same mountain range as the existing Los Alamos. “We had this epic town that we wanted to do,” she says, “but the U.S. government had $2 million and a few years and I had nowhere near that.” Neither De Jong nor director Christopher Nolan wanted to use CGI for extensions on the town, so De...

"Mr. President, I feel I have blood on my hands," said J. Robert Oppenheimer to President Harry Truman in 1945 during a fateful meeting at the Oval Office, according to a description of their encounter in "American Prometheus." Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" stages this event to dramatic effect, with Truman (Gary Oldman) calling the theoretical physicist a "crybaby" after the latter addresses the ethical quandaries of dropping the world's first atomic weapon. This moment is memorable; it underlines the government's eagerness to literally weaponize nuclear weapons development projects while also zooming in on Oppenheimer's accumulating guilt and despair.
According to "Oppenheimer" production designer Ruth De Jong, filming this scene demanded a considerable amount of last-minute effort and improvisations, as the crew's plans to film at the original location had fallen through days before the shoot. /Film's Bill Bria attended a home entertainment release junket for "Oppenheimer," where De Jong detailed the...

Prince Charles' Wife Camilla Felt Like a Prisoner in Her Own Home After Their Affair Was Made Public
Prince Charles' wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has opened up for the first time about the difficulties she faced when their relationship was made public. Meanwhile, the princess also cheated on Charles with James Hewitt. Diana and Charles divorced in 1996, after which his PR team worked to try to build public support for Camilla. Image Source: Getty / Anwar Hussein Although season one of Ryan Murphy's Feud is just barely upon us, FX has already renewed the drama for a second season, and it's going to be a doozy. Titled Feud: Charles and Diana, season two will follow the tumultuous marriage of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, who were married from 1981 to 1996. Diana - whose legacy still lives on in her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry - died in a tragic car accident in August 1997 with her partner, Dodi Fayed, whom she began dating after the end of her and Charles's 15-year marriage. Before their divorce, however, their troubled relationship was the subject of plenty of tabloid speculation. The Early Years On Feb. 24, 1981, Diana and Charles announced they were engaged after meeting four years earlier while Charles dated Diana's older sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale. It seemed that their union was...

Prince Harry has amassed quite a fan club over the years, and when you take into account how easy he is on the eyes and his, um, impressive physique, it's not hard to see why. Of all the charitable royal's many admirers, few have been as excited to see him than the students of Hamilton College in Leicester, England. Harry was more than happy to stop and chat with the teenagers on his way out of their school on Tuesday, shaking hands and goofing off the whole time. A few girls even brought a big "We Love You Prince Harry" sign with them, forever cementing them as our personal heroes. It looks like Harry's girlfriend, activist and actress Meghan Markle, might have some competition on her hands, huh? Meeting his adorable young fans aside, it's been a busy few weeks for Prince Harry. While decades-old rumors about the truth of...

You might be used to seeing Prince Harry all dressed up for his many royal engagements, but on Wednesday he ditched his usual suit for a trip to Epping Forest. His visit was a part of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy, a forest conservation project, and included meet and greets with a group of very excited school children and some very chill cows. Harry also planted a tree and checked out more of the wildlife, which was probably a welcome distraction from decades-old rumors about his paternity that have been dredged up due to a new interview with Princess Diana's old flame James Hewitt. Maybe Harry's charitable journey will help deflect the criticisms big brother Prince William has gotten for going on a ski trip to the Swiss Alps instead of attending a ceremony for Commonwealth Day? Princess Diana has been gone for almost 20 years, but she's still the topic of (somewhat scandalous) conversation. In an exclusive interview with Australia's Sunday Night that aired this week, the late princess's former lover James Hewitt was asked point-blank about a pesky rumor that has been circulating since the '80s - that he, not Prince Charles, is the biological father of Prince Harry. "No, I'm not," James replied matter-of-factly when asked "Are you Harry's father?" "It sells papers," he said of the longtime rumors, adding, "It's worse for [Harry] probably, poor chap." James Hewitt is back in the news. Princess Diana's former lover is making headlines again because he's had to deny once more that he is Prince Harry's real father. Many have alleged that the redheaded royal and Princess Di's old flame share a resemblance, but Hewitt has denied the rumors for years, also noting that he met the late royal when her younger son was already a toddler. While appearing on Sunday Night, Hewitt was asked matter-of-factly, "Are you Harry's father?" "No, I'm not," he declared. "Why does that keep getting repeated?" interviewer Melissa Doyle asked him. "Sells papers," he retorted. "It's...

As the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death approaches, rumors still remain about the life and death of Lady Di. Among the topics of those reemerging questions is the paternity of her youngest son, Prince Harry—many have claimed for years that Prince Charles is not his real father. Instead, the rumors zoom in on the late Diana's lover, James Hewitt, whom she admitted to having an affair with during her marriage to Charles. At the time, rumors also swirled that Prince Charles was seeing his now-wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. While many have alleged James and Harry share a physical resemblance, the former British officer has not only denied for years that the allegations are false,...

Beaming the People's Princess directly to the people's peepers, the new trailer for Diana has arrived and shows Naomi Watts doing her thing as the Princess of Wales in Oliver Hirschbiegel mini-biopic. Click below to take a look. brightcove.createExperiences(); We say 'semi' biopic because the film concentrates on a relatively short period after Diana's divorce and towards the end of her life. Her affair with Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews) was overshadowed, publically at least, by more widely publicised dalliances with James Hewitt and Dodi Fayed but, posits the new film, it was Khan she actually fell hardest for.Perhaps sensibly, the film leaves the final chapter of her life well alone, focusing instead on the few halycon months she spent with Khan. The trailer showcases the happier side of their relationship (sneaky suppers round the corner from his hospital, covert hours spent together at Kensington Palace...
