- Garret Hobart was the sixth of seven Vice Presidents to die in office. Other Vice Presidential Deaths in Office included George Clinton and Elbridge Gerry (James Madison), William King (Franklin Pierce), Henry Wilson (Ulysses Grant),Thomas Hendricks (Grover Cleveland) and James Sherman (Howard Taft).
He was a corporate lawyer and exceptional fund raiser for the party and thus had no political experience before becoming Vice President. - He had a fear of public speaking and avoided public and Senate orations.
- Hobart died a year before McKinley's renomination in 1900.
