I spent the first 37 years of my life on the East Coast, and even there, I knew who Sam Rubin was.
The beloved Ktla Los Angeles entertainment reporter, who died May 10 at age 64, was a Hollywood fixture for over 30 years, beloved, trusted and respected. Drawing heartfelt tributes ranging from industry veterans like Tom Hanks and Henry Winkler and rising stars like Charmaine Bingwa, I’ve never seen such an outpouring for an entertainment journalist since perhaps Roger Ebert in 2013. Sam greeted everyone with the same infectious enthusiasm and genuine curiosity, whether they were industry stalwarts or nervous newcomers. He was synonymous with Los Angeles but he was also known well outside of Southern California through his reporting for ITV and Australia’s 9 Network.

There's always one person at every party who misjudges the dress code, and at the 2014 Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Thursday (Jan. 16), that distinction fell to poor Bob Odenkirk.
Speaking with Sam Rubin and Jessica Holmes on the red carpet during the official pre-show, Odenkirk expressed a bit of shame when his ensemble was referred to as California style.
"I didn't read the invitation. I think I was supposed to wear a suit," he said with a laugh. "They're nice jeans, at least. They cost a lot of money."
As the hosts brought in a glamorous-looking Elisabeth Rohm, Odenkirk quickly got out of frame, making light of his outfit: "I gotta go. I gotta go sweep up now."
Before he scurried away, however, Rubin asked him if he'd be attending the Critics' Choice TV Awards next year for upcoming AMC spinoff "Better Call Saul." True to form, Odenkirk was ready with a quip: "Okay,...

The trailer of the Canadian film Moon Point is now online. However, no specific date has been announced for the film.
According to the film's Facebook page, the story is about a boy named Darryl Strozka (Nick McKinlay), an ambitionless 24-year old who travels hundreds of miles in a wagon hooked onto the back of his friend’s (Kyle Mac) electric wheelchair.
He embarks on this quest in hopes of tracking down Sarah Cherry (Kristen Gutoskie), his elementary school crush, now an obscure B-movie actress shooting a horror film in Moon Point. Darryl believes that taking Sarah to his cocky cousin’s upcoming wedding will finally prove to his family that he isn’t as worthless as they make him out to be.
The film also stars Paula Brancati, Art Hindle, Jayne Eastwood, Kristin Fairlie, Tony Nappo and Jessica Holmes.

The comedians of the defunct show Royal Canadian Air Farce will be back for the New Year's Eve at 8 Pm on CBC.
Obviously, these comedians are Jessica Holmes, Penelope Corrin, Alan Park, Roger Abbott, Don Ferguson, Craig Lauzon and Luba Goy. As always, they'll poke fun at all the major newsmakers of 2010.
Speaking of that, we can think about the rise of teen-singer Justin Bieber, the G8/G20, WikiLeaks' cables, William and Kate, Lady Gaga's high-protein apparel, Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, Celine Dion, Tony Hayward, the Chilean miners, Barack Obama, Joseph Biden and even the soccer World Cup.
CBC also revealed that Lloyd Robertson, one of Canada's news anchors, will guest-star. He will look back at his four decades anchoring national newscasts at CBC and CTV, another Canadian TV network. Other guest-stars will include journalists Lisa Laflamme, Peter Mansbridge and Brian Williams.

"American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe can't walk within 20 feet of a camera these days without getting the third degree about the series' fluxuationg judges panel. So it doesn't come as much of a surprise that its a hot topic for him at the Emmys.
The TV mogul chatted with Ktla's Sam Rubin and Jessica Holmes on the red carpet about the upcoming season, and when asked if he could name a single judge who'd be around for Season 10... he did.
Lythgoe says that one seat on the panel has an occupant, and it's Randy Jackson. Wait. Was that a confirmation? "I hope so," he says.
But what of Elton John? Lythgoe, who's been openly campaigning for the music legend to join the series, admits that it's a probably not in the cards, citing the series' annual four-month commitment as too much for someone with John's schedule.

Getting a platform to conduct interviews along the crowded Emmy red carpet is tough, but E! network and TV Guide Channel have two each, NBC-related media have three (NBC, "Access Hollywood," "Extra") and CBS has two ("E.T.," "The Insider"). This year People magazine nabbed a new platform space (albeit relatively small) right near the entrance. All other media are crammed in between the platforms where they must jostle with each other behind a velvet rope while competing to nab celebrity interviews.
This is the order of the platforms all located along the right side of the Emmys' red carpet as celebrities arrive and pass through metal detectors. First comes "Entertainment Tonight" (its position has been "grandfathered" into its deal with the TV academy), then People, E! (Ryan Seacrest's position), TV Guide Channel, NBC, "Access Hollywood," "Extra," "The Insider," E! (second position), and TV Guide Channel (second position). E! actually has a third interview spot,...

When I arrived on the red carpet in front of Nokia Theater on Friday morning to do a TV spot with Sam Rubin of Ktla, all I could think as I looked around was: Somebody better clean this dump up before Sofia Vergara gets here! Emmys are only two days away. The scene was abuzz with such chaos that poor Sam (left, top photo) had to dodge workmen while doing live TV. I'll be joining Sam and Ktla reporter Jessica Holmes on Sunday for their red-carpet show airing from 3 to 5 p.m. Pt. Tune in! Meantime, check out the pictures I took this morning.
