Responding to the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s’ urgent call for help to stay in business, several industry leaders and organizations have stepped up — but not nearly as many as are needed to keep Hollywood’s 101-year-old charity afloat. MPTF hopes to raise at least 300,000 in its star-studded first telethon, which will air December 10 on Ktla in Los Angeles.
Hit by a “perfect storm” of rising expenses and declining revenue during the Covid pandemic, the MPTF said in October that it was facing its “imminent demise” and the very real prospect of closing its doors and going out of business by the end of 2022 unless it received 10 million-12 million in cash donations by the end of the year to meet its bank line compliance and continue ongoing operations.

The talks that led to CAA acquiring ICM Partners came together in secret over a short period of time — so much so that longtime insiders at both agencies learned of the deal moments before the news was formally announced on Monday.
To CAA’s trio of leaders — Bryan Lourd, Richard Lovett and Kevin Huvane — and ICM Partners’ chief Chris Silbermann, the fact that the talks were kept quiet was a sign that the leaders are temperamentally in sync and trust one another. The deal was finalized Monday at 8:17 a.m. Pt, barely an hour before CAA issued the news release, the key players confirmed.
“It’s a testament to the reason for the partnership” that word of the talks didn’t leak, Lovett told Variety.
Lourd conceded that the idea of a tie-up had been broached in the recent past. During the past 12 months, amid all the upheaval in the entertainment industry,...

A Los Angeles Times expose published on Wednesday alleges that women and people of color have been subjected to harassment and bullying at ICM Partners.
The story spoke to 30 former and current employees at the Hollywood agency.
A rep from ICM told the Los Angeles Times, “Hr does not have any records of such allegations.”
ICM Partners CEO Chris Silbermann had been a proponent of “50/50 by 2020,” a promise — which the agency says that it met — to achieve gender parity in leadership positions.
But according to the LA Times story, almost a dozen women have submitted allegations of mistreatment to human resources department by their male bosses since 2017.
Three of ICM’s board members — Lorrie Bartlett, Jennifer Joel and Janet Carol Norton — defended the agency, saying in a statement that to the LA Times that claims that the company’s promise for 50/50 parity “was an insincere marketing ploy is utterly irreconcilable...

Updated, with details and statement from ICM Partners: A long-in-the-works exposé in the Los Angeles Times by reporter Wendy Lee is up on the paper’s website. The crux of the story is to question the agency’s commitment to diversity and whether a toxic male culture and discrimination continues, despite public pledges to the contrary.
According to the article, “more than 30 former and current ICM employees said in interviews that the company tolerated a hostile work environment, where women and people of color were subjected to harassment, bullying and other inappropriate conduct. Since 2017, nearly a dozen women reported allegations of mistreatment by male agents and managers company wide to ICM Partners’ human resources department or senior leaders, according to interviews with the women and those with direct knowledge of the incidents.”

Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman made its Croisette debut last night to a rapturous welcome, complete with that most over-hyped of Cannes staples: the endless standing ovation. No surprise. Lee’s first movie in Cannes’ main competition since Jungle Fever in 1991 is a searing call-to-arms to a post-Charlottesville world, and the filmmaker’s most impressive work in years.
Earlier in the day, before the movie screened, Lee visited Deadline’s Cannes Studio with his stars John David Washington and Laura Harrier to talk us through his attraction to the story. Washington plays Ron Stallworth, a Colorado Springs undercover officer who successfully infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan, ultimately becoming the leader of its local chapter and gaining the trust of Grand Wizard David Duke (Topher Grace).
The project came to Lee after being developed by Blumhouse and Get Out director Jordan Peele. Peele immediately identified Lee as the man to bring it to the screen.

There's nothing that impresses me more than staying power among Hollywood players, none more so than talent agents because that's such a brutal biz. So today Toni Howard celebrates her 20th year at ICM. (I recall the newsmaking day she led a group of fellow female talent agents who weren't being treated well at the old William Morris Agency to defect to ICM.) "They made a very nice celebration and Jeff Berg made a beautiful speech," an insider tells me.

The 3-time Tony winner and Academy Award nominee will be repped by Toni Howard and Adam Schweitzer. The latter, who was recently promoted to co-head Icm’s motion picture talent department, signed William Hurt earlier this week. Last year, the Frost/Nixon Best Actor nominee waited until Oscar voting had closed before jumping from Innovative to William Morris Agency's Ed Limato. Langella followed Limato to Wme and this is his first agency move since Ed's death. Langella has had a strong 2010. He starred in the Oliver Stone-directed Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and he opens today in All Good Things, starring with Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst in the Andrew Jarecki-directed drama based on the case of Robert Durst, scion of the Gotham-based real estate empire The Durst Organization. He next stars opposite Liam Neeson in Unknown for Warner Bros.

Toni Howard has been named the new head of motion picture talent at ICM. She replaces Carol Bodie, who stepped down and continues to be a senior agent at ICM.
The move comes as the agency continues its restructuring while negotiating the departure of agency co-president Ed Limato and follows a series of promotions and dismissals.
Howard, who has been with company since 1991, is one of the highest-ranking female agents in a male-dominated field. Her clients include Halle Berry, Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken and Laura Linney.
The promotion signals that ICM is shoring up its film side and is interested in keeping its top agents from exiting with Limato.
Doug MacLaren and Nick Reed remain co-heads of the motion picture literary department.
Howard was head of ICM's motion picture talent department in 1999.
