- According to an article about his murder on page 15 of the April 10, 1964, issue of the Southern Illinoisan from Carbondale, Illinois, Hudman was the Marlboro Man in TV advertisements for Marlboro cigarettes.
- Left acting in 1962 and moved near Drake, Arizona, with his wife, son and daughter. He soon began running rock quarries in the area. He was shot in the neck by Vernon Oliver Martin, who claimed that Hudman and a co-worker were building an access road to a copper mine that Martin owned. It was soon found that there were no copper mines in the area.
