James Cameron’s eagerly-awaited remasters of True Lies, Aliens and The Abyss have come in for some pushback…
We’re still some months away from the physical media 4K releases of a bunch of James Cameron films, but the digital releases of the movies in question have caused a few eyebrows to be raised.
This week, in the US at least, the digital 4K remasters of True Lies, The Abyss and Aliens have debuted. The remastering work is set to be the basis of next March’s much-anticipated 4K disc releases. And whilst the file size of the disc version is going to significantly exceed that of a download, there are still a few little niggles that are cropping up.
True Lies is the transfer that appears to be coming in for the most pushback. Over at the Blu-ray.com forum, there’s a growing thread with screencaps from the release,...

WandaVision fans hoping to finally get their hands on a physical media release of Disney+’s inaugural live-action Marvel series had the rug pulled out from under them twice in recent days.
Over the weekend, The Direct reported that Manta Lab was accepting pre-orders for a WandaVision steelbook (case) that itself features a glossy finish and debossed title, comes with a full slip (cover), and is accompanied by postcards, character cards and three (3!) exclusive stickers (stickers!).

James Cameron is aiming to be king of Blu-ray and 4K, as word has emerged from the abyss that some of the director’s most iconic movies in his canon will be getting updated home video releases sometime this year.
The Digital Bits founder and editor-in-chief Bill Hunt had the chance to talk to producer Jon Landau about upcoming Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases of some of James Cameron’s greatest movies: The Abyss (1989), True Lies (1994), Titanic (1997), and the first Avatar (2009). As Hunt rattled off these titles, Landau replied, “2023, baby!…I would bet [they] would be [released]…But I don’t know if Disney wants me saying that yet,” followed by a laugh. You can watch the video below:
Today I had the chance to ask Avatar producer Jon Landau about the physical #4K #UltraHD & #Bluray release of James Cameron's Avatar, The Abyss, True Lies & Titanic. Here's the answer, straight from the man himself!

Blade Runner was a very early must-have DVD. Blade Runner 2049 has now become a must-have 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray...
When it comes to movie disc formats, I now tend to adopt early, and have done since the DVD days. It’s not always gone to plan, as the rotting HD DVD player in my loft will testify to. But, after a quiet start, there’s finally a sense that 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is an upgrade that can reward investment as the premium physical disc format of choice. As a customer who’s been with the format since the day it went on sale in the UK, the point we’re at now, with a steady flow of quality titles, has been a while coming. But also, particularly in the light of Blade Runner 2049’s release, it feels worth the investment.
