Ka-pow! Let the knockout rounds begin on The Voice.
Just one step away from the live rounds, the coaches must cut their teams in half by pairing off teammates to perform against one another. Tasked with picking their own songs, only one will move on.

But this season there's a twist – for the first time ever, each coach has one final steal. (And it's implied that they can steal someone back that they had previously cut loose in the battle rounds.

‘The Voice’ kicked off its first night of knock-out rounds Oct. 28 by introducing a game-changing, but not-so-secret, weapon for each of the coaches: another steal! Each coach now has the chance to snatch one last singer from another team before the live rounds begin.
While The Voice‘s knock-out rounds offer the first opportunity for one-on-one coaching, they’re also a time during which each coach has to cut his or her team in half. Read on to see if your favorite contestants will be advancing to the live rounds!
Team Christina: Amber Nicole vs. Josh Logan
Amber Nicole sang Jessie J‘s “Mama knows best,” which she chose for the power, and she came blasting out of the vocal gates within the first few phrases. Josh Logan anted-up with Stevie Wonder‘s “Living for the city,” and he rocked it. “You did that song serious justice,” said Adam Levine,...

Welcome to a new week, "Voice" fans. It's time for the Knockout Rounds. Gone are the days of the Battle Round duets. Instead, each coach will pair up two singers who will each get to select their own song and sing one after the other, fighting for one spot on their team. Who will coaches Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and CeeLo Green keep around and who's getting the boot? Let's find out.
Knockout #1: Team Christina's Amber Nicole vs. Josh Logan
Amber Nicole: "Mama Knows Best" (Jessie J)
Amber decided to take on Jessie's sassy kiss-off track because she felt like it was right in her wheelhouse and she's not wrong. She may be super young, but her performances thus far have revealed that this girl packs quite a punch. She commands the stage during her performance. It's such a theatrical song and she plays that up perfectly.

With all apologies to God, the Seventh Commandment just went the way of Crystal Pepsi, the personal pager and NBC’s Smash. I mean, seriously, who can enthusiastically support laws against larcenous behavior now that “The Steal” has found its way to The Voice‘s Knockout Rounds?
Now, before you cry “blasphemy!” let’s remember that Christina Aguilera has the voice of an angel — and she supports this blatant brand of thievery. And it’s also worth noting that The Steal has another proponent in Blake Shelton, a fine, upstanding fella whose recent crusade against the Westboro Hatemongering Association* puts...

The men dominated the second week of battle rounds on The Voice Monday night as rock and pop music took center stage during several powerful duets, including a credible cover of one coach's own hit.
Christina Aguilera had her soulful team members Josh Logan and Michael Lynch perform a rendition of "Harder to Breathe," a 2002 Maroon 5 hit written by frontman Adam Levine for his group's first record. Levine seemed entertained by their confident performance as Cee Lo Green pointed out the similarities to the original.
"You almost sounded identical," Green told Logan, a 33-year-old father from Manchester, N.H.

‘The Voice’ delivered another night of intense competition Oct. 21. With the battle rounds coming to a close, the judges were on high alert for any potential steals — and Adam knew just who he was looking for.
Destinee Quinn 20, and Lina Gaudenzi, 23, battled for a spot on Team Christina with “Not Ready To Make Nice” by The Dixie Chicks. Christina Aguilera said she chose the song to bring both girls a little out of their comfort zone, and the winner would depend on how willing they were to let go. Both girls were very connected with the song during the performance, but Adam Levine found a few technical glitches. Ultimately, the choice came down to emotion versus range. For Christina, it was Destinee’s emotion that won the battle. But Adam swooped in and stole Lina before Carson Daly could even get a word in edgewise!

The Battle Rounds continue on during Monday's (Oct. 21) episode of Season 5 of "The Voice," which coaches Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and CeeLo Green continuing to whittle down their teams by pitting one of their artists against another. Who makes the cut and who gets the boot? Let's find out.
Battle #1: Team Christina's Josh Logan vs. Michael Lynch
Xtina paired the two gents up because of the soul she thinks both carry in their voice, tasking them to take on Maroon 5's "Harder To Breathe," which ought to make Adam uncomfortable. During rehearsals, Michael admits he doesn't know the song very well and struggles with the verbose lyrics. Christina grew irritated because neither seemed to know the song with enough comfort to actually entertain a crowd with it. Not exactly a wise move considering the guy who created it will only be feet away from you.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled The Voice recap with a Public Service Announcement about Adam Levine‘s Battle Rounds Rehearsal Beard™: Dude, you can put on a hideous Hawaiian shirt and allow your carefully manicured stubble to devolve into a mangy mess, but it does not negate your hotness. It’s entirely possible, however, that your common sense, taste level and critical ear may have been moderately damaged by said errant mane.

The competition is heating up Oct. 15, as ‘The Voice’ enters its second night of the Battle Rounds.
As each artist prepared for battle on The Voice, Jacob Poole and Matthew Schuler set the bar, lighting up the stage with their performance.
Team Christina: Jacob Poole vs. Matthew Schuler
Jacob, 20, is the son of a pastor who wanted to step out and follow his own dreams and vision for his life. And Matthew, 20, is the bagel shop worker who rocked the stage with his original performance, earning the fastest four-chair turn in Voice history. They kicked off the night, battling with Fall Out Boy‘s “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up).” And they were on fire as they lit up the stage with a rocking performance. James Irwin returned to the stage after a lackluster performance last season, determined to turn at least one judge’s chair. But with R.E.M’s ‘Losing My Religion’ he blew away all four!
Last season, James Irwin made his debut on The Voice with a performance that didn’t exactly wow the judges, but Shakira gave him some sage advice about second (and third) chances that made him want to come back and give it another go.
James Irwin Wows With R.E.M’s ‘Losing My Religion’
On season four of The Voice, James had us all emotional with his heart-wrenching story about losing his twin daughters, just moments after they were born. He came back for season five on Oct. 1 with his wife and baby son, determined to make his family proud and win the judges over, saying last time, “I didn’t give them the best version of myself.

A stressed-out single mom and a former contestant seeking redemption scored the two four-chair swivels of the night Tuesday as The Voice's coaches inched closer to completing their teams during the fourth night of blind auditions. The coaches' powers of persuasion - and sharp elbows - were on full display during the final showstopping performance of the night when Ashley DuBose, a single mother/programmer analyst from St. Paul, Minn., arguably outshone Rihanna while singing the Grammy winner's hit "Diamonds." "Your voice cuts like a razor through this entire place," coach Adam Levine told the 23-year-old. "Those are the...

From zero to four chairs in the span of one season of "The Voice" was an unprecedented feat until James Irwin returned on Tuesday (Oct. 1) night's episode to light the stage on fire.
Irwin first auditioned in Season 4, when his timid performance failed to earn him the interest of any coach, though coach Shakira reminded the forlorn singer that life was full of second and third chances, encouraging him to return to the show to give it another go. And boy did he.
Returning to try his luck again, Irwin took the stage a more self-assured and seasoned performer. His performance of Rem's "Losing My Religion" showed an artistic vision that was largely absent the first time around. Very quickly, returning coaches Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green hit their buttons, though mainstays Adam Levine and Blake Shelton weren't far behind.
Once the performance was over, Shelton nearly squealed with delight...

I’m not a TV producer — I just criticize them on the Internet. But putting my patented brand of bitchery aside for a second, I’ll admit it’s got to be tough to strike the right balance of good singing, emotional backstory and judges’ chatter during the audition rounds of a reality competition series.
That said, Episode 4 of The Voice‘s fifth season was one of those recipes that goes sideways from the first step: Maybe somebody didn’t leave the cake out in the rain, but the finished product sure was tear-streaked and a little bit soggy.

Diva-holics, relax! What Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice lacks in Christina Aguilera’s extroverted decolletage, flying-saucer hats and impromptu “this is how it’s done” vocal displays, has already been made up for with Shakira’s harmonica riffs, inspirational quips (“faith is the engine!”) and killer Blake Shelton impression.
