I thought the brief glimpse of Lewis as The Great Emancipator in the first teaser earlier this week was chilling. That pales in comparison to the new breath-taking trailer for DreamWorks Pictures’ Lincoln. Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.
What a preview of things to come! Whoever cuts Spielberg’s trailers is an editing genius.
The combination of David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, Tommy Lee Jones and the great Sally Field as Lincoln’s wife...

Liverpool F.C has this revealed the official 3rd strip for the 2012/13 season and – in the process – revealing one of the most unusual away kits of the Premier League era.
Warrior sports have concluded their aggressive Liverpool F.C kit campaign with a controversial choice of a purple base colour (nightshade, apologies), with white sleeves that are accompanied with a type-of-tribal pattern, and an orange trim that “takes inspiration from popular past goalkeeper strips worn by David James during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, and Pepe Reina in 2010-11.”
Since descriptions of the kit have been slowly leaking on fan sites, fans have been discussing the outlandish look of this kit – something which Warrior has acknowledged in this teaser video – with most fans hoping this kit wouldn’t be the subject of ridicule a-la neighbours Everton’s screaming pink away kit of the 10/11 season. We wouldn’t call this kit...

Actors pick up knighthood and Cbe while Pm revives British Empire Medal as reward for 'big society' volunteers
David Cameron's "big society" gong, the anachronistically named British Empire Medal, makes its first appearance for 20 years in the Queen's birthday honours today, rewarding "hands-on" service to local communities.
As actors Kenneth Branagh and Kate Winslet collect a knighthood and Cbe respectively, 293 BEMs, known as the "working-class gong" and scrapped by John Major in 1991 in his efforts to make the honours system "classless", are also awarded.
Revived by Cameron to encourage the "big society" and reward volunteering, Bem recipients include waitress Patricia Carter, for services to the hospitality industry, apiarist Geoffrey Hopkinson, for services to beekeeping, and many others involved with local community work, charities, and sports.
Sir Bob Kerslake, head of the civil service who chairs the main honours committee, said the re-introduction of the Bem for the Diamond Jubilee extended...

Photographer David James showcases his expert eye in his latest book Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Shooting Diary. The film, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, starring the one and only Tom Cruise was released on Blu-Ray and DVD today but if you want an in-depth look into the making of the film, be sure to check out the book.
The shooting diary is filled with over 200 pages of images taken while on the set. He followed the crew to multiple locations across the globe like: British Columbia, The Czech Republic, and Dubai. The images range from pre- production all the way to the end with notes from the photographer about each image. James’ notes provide a unique insight into just how complex it is to film one of the year’s best action movies.

Joe Lederer/Paramount Michael Nyqvist (left) and Samuli Edelmann in ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’
Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist stars as Hendricks, the lead villain in Brad Bird’s new film, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” playing opposite Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. For the role, Nyqvist had to train in boxing and mixed martial arts, which the actor says he loved, but while filming a fight scene, he broke a rib.

Today’s news that former Newcastle United and Leeds United midfielder and Wales manager Gary Speed was found dead left what I believe will be a lasting emotional scar on the footballing world, as well as having a profound personal effect. Speed was part of the team under Sir Bobby Robson who threatened to bring the good times of Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers back to St James Park, and his willingness to work for every team he played for endeared him enormously to fans.
He was a professional, the kind of player who cliched adages stuck to with genuine sentiment and who still holds the third highest Premiership appearance record behind Ryan Giggs and David James predominantly in a position that required a serious amount of commitment and energy to become anything close to the highest level. That is some going.

Remember the first time you saw the T1000 in hot pursuit of Arnold and Edward Furlong on a motorcycle, and all Arnold had was a shotgun? Do you remember when Neo first stopped all of those bullets from the agents in The Matrix? What about when you first saw the chestburster scene in Alien? Or how about when Sharlto Copley battled an entire armada of soldiers in a mecha-robot armor suit?” Maybe not yet, but you soon will. Working with a rich and imaginative story of an awkward alien assimilation on Earth, Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 has all the makings to become a science-fiction classic. Whether you love the allegory of sci-fi, the creatures, the weaponry or iconic characters—District 9 has it all covered.
District 9 takes place in South Africa and recreates an alternate history, which mirrors the country’s own shady political past. Over 20 years ago,...
