Actors Simone Ashley and Mo Gilligan sat down along with director Chris Jenkins to share some insights from their experience acting in the Sundance film 10 Lives, in their new uInterview.
10 Lives is an animated comedy that presents the charming tale of Beckett, an indulged feline character (voiced by Gilligan). When Beckett throws away his ninth life, he undergoes a transformative journey, both physically and emotionally, and ultimately discovers profound lessons about the power of love, accompanied by Rose (voiced by Ashley), a kind-hearted student who wants to save the bee population.
The voice actors reflected on the difference in approach to a voice role versus a live-action one.
“It’s so different than my work doing live-action because you’re forced to use your imagination in a much more heightened way, especially when it’s bringing a relationship with an animal to life,” Ashley told uInterview founder Erik Meers.

When Simone Ashley chatted with The Hollywood Reporter at the Sundance Film Festival alongside her 10 Lives co-star Mo Gilligan and director Chris Jenkins, she revealed a hidden talent.
Ashley stars in the animated film as Rose, a student who is a doting cat mom to Beckett (voiced by Gilligan). For 10 Lives, the Bridgerton star used her natural voice, but she’s looking forward to the opportunity to show off her knack for impressions.
“I would love to do a character one day with all these different kinds of tonalities in their voice. Like Stitch. I can do a Stitch or a chipmunk impression, or like Kermit the Frog,” said Ashley, proceeding to do an accurate take on the Muppet’s voice. She then took on Stitch’s voice perfectly, impressing Jenkins and Gilligan.

Open Road / Participant Media’s journalism procedural prevailed in one of the most closely fought contests in years to claim the best picture prize at the finale of the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday.
In two of the most widely predicted wins of the night, Leo DiCaprio was named best actor for The Revenant and Brie Larson scooped the best lead actress prize for Room.
Earlier, Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G Innaritu made it back-to-back wins when he claimed the best directing prize for The Revenant after his triumph last year for Birdman. Inarritu was the frontrunner in the category after prevailing in the DGA awards.
Earlier in the night George Miller’s wildly popular dystopian adventure burst out of the blocks at the 88th Academy Awards, earning six awards including best editing and sound editing.

Ah, Academy Awards time. Gongage was bestowed in Los Angeles whilst most of Britain slept. And this year's winners? This little lot.
There were a few surprises in there. Spotlight took the Best Picture prize, after missing out on virtually everything else all night (screenwriting aside), Furthermore, Mark Rylance trumped favourite Sylvester Stallone for the Best Supporting Actor gong.
Mad Max: Fury Road won the most gongs, including a hugely deserved prize for its editing. And we’re thrilled too that Ex Machina’s visual effects were recognised.

“The Revenant" pulled off an upset at this year's Cinema Audio Society Awards, winning Best Sound Mixing over the Oscar frontrunner “Mad Max: Fury Road.” However, in good news for the Aussie import, the Cas has an uneven track record at forecasting the Oscar winner, with just 11 of the 21 previous guild champs repeating at the academy. What a lovely day to win an Oscar! The Academy Awards announced their nominees this morning, and Mad Max: Fury Road came in second for most nominations behind The Revenant. It’s a nice change from the typical epic dramas that always get nominated every year, and now the road to the Oscars will be a furious one. In fact, it’s the first action movie to ever be nominated for Best Picture. I only hope if George Miller wins Best Director, he’ll spray his teeth silver up on stage while accepting the award. Here are the nominations Mad Max has received:
Best Picture Best Director (George Miller) Best Film Editing (Margaret Sixel) Best Cinematography (John Seale) Best Costume Design (Jenny Beavan) Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega and Damian Martin) Best Production Design (Colin Gibson, Lisa Thompson) Best Sound Editing (Mark Mangini and David White) Best Sound Mixing (Chris Jenkins,...

We.ve now all had a few hours to digest the 88th Academy Award nominations, and probably the most pleasantly surprising recognition came in the shape of the 10 nominations for Mad Max: Fury Road. Rather than just being in the below-the-lines categories (often populated by summer blockbusters), George Miller's movie also got nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. Impressive. But how many Academy Awards could Mad Max: Fury Road actually pick up next month? Well, to start off, let.s have a look at each of the Oscar nominations that Mad Max: Fury Road picked up. Best Picture Best Director (George Miller) Cinematography (John Seale) Costume Design (Jenny Beaven) Film Editing (Margaret Sixel) Makeup And Hairstyling (Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega, and Damian Martin) Production Design (Colin Gibson . Leave it to the Brits! The BAFTA nominations were announced and they gave us a slightly different look at the awards season! For instance, Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight," the leading Oscar contender in the U.S. just received 3 noms including Best Film, Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo and Original Screenplay. No Director nomination for McCarthy.
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies," a handsomely-produced period piece led the pack along with Todd Haynes' "Carol," another handsomely-produced period piece. Both films garnered nine nominations each including Best Picture. "Bridge of Spies" and "Carol" will duke it out with "Spotlight," Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu's "The Revenant" (eight nominations), and Adam McKay's "The Big Short" (five nominations) for the Best Picture trophy.
So where's "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" you ask? They're relegated to the technical categories. Apparently, sequels, no matter how great they are, can't compete with originals.

Oh how the tables have turned! While Sci-Fi and Fantasy films normally do well at the box offices while garnering critical acclaim amongst fans, they’re usually snubbed during awards season. However, things seem to be slightly changing with the list of nominees at two recent award shows. There are few hidden gems that almost seem as if they snuck-in with the rest of the bunch.

George Miller’s action-epic scoops eight awards including best film and best director.Scroll down for the full list
Mad Max: Fury Road has scooped the pool at Australia’s top film awards, the AACTAs, with George Miller’s high-action epic scoring wins in eight of its 11 nominated categories, including best film and best director.
Jocelyn Moorhouse’s retro western The Dressmaker won the Aacta People’s Choice Award at the Sydney event, and Kate Winslet won the Best Actress award for her lead performance (and convincing accent) as a spiteful Aussie seamstress in outback 1950s Australia. Winslet accepted her award via smartphone video selfie.
Her onscreen mum, Judy Davis, was the odds-on favourite to win Best Supporting Actress, which she did. In another acting gong for The Dressmaker, Hugo Weaving seemed as surprised as everyone else when his name was called to the stage of Sydney’s The Star casino complex.

Today, it is hard to imagine most movies without sound. Dialogue obviously recreates the experience of most people’s lives. Proper integration of music can build the theme meticulously. Mixing effects and other non-dialogue sounds captured during filming brings us into the world of the characters. The Academy Award for Sound Mixing awards up to three sound re-recording mixers – the men and women who “mix” dialogue, effects, music, and, well, everything else, to create the soundtrack we hear while watching a movie. The production sound mixer – the person responsible for capturing the sounds while shooting – is also awarded. The category tends to award musicals, which is not surprising given the importance of sound in such films. Prestigious action/science-fiction films are also favored,...

Robert Redford: 'The Great Gatsby' and 'The Way We Were' tonight on Turner Classic Movies Turner Classic Movies' Star of the Month Robert Redford returns this evening with three more films: two Sydney Pollack-directed efforts, Out of Africa and The Way We Were, and Jack Clayton's film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel The Great Gatsby. (See TCM's Robert Redford film schedule below. See also: "On TCM: Robert Redford Movies.") 'The Great Gatsby': Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby Released by Paramount Pictures, the 1974 film version of The Great Gatsby had prestige oozing from just about every cinematic pore. The film was based on what some consider the greatest American novel ever written. Francis Ford Coppola, whose directing credits included the blockbuster The Godfather, and who, that same year, was responsible for both The Godfather Part II and The Conversation, penned the adaptation. Multiple Tony winner David Merrick (Becket,...

'Out of Africa' Out of Africa (1985) is an unusual Robert Redford star vehicle in that the film's actual lead isn't Redford, but Meryl Streep -- at the time seen as sort of a Bette Davis-Alec Guinness mix: like Davis, Streep received a whole bunch of Academy Award nominations within the span of a few years: from 1978-1985, she was shortlisted for no less than six movies.* Like Guinness, Streep could transform...

Soundworks Collection has posted a new featurette taking a look at the sound design of Man of Steel with re-recording mixer Chris Jenkins, re-recording mixer Frank A. Montano, supervising sound editor and designer Eric Norris, supervising sound editor and designer Scott Hecker and dialogue supervisor Kira Roessler and it's one of their better ones. Personally I love it when they go into detail as to how they developed the sounds far more than just discussing the motivations behind things. Here you'll see why they dropped a 9,000 pound K-rail and and what they were doing with glass beads and a child's toy xylophone. Obviously I haven't started my sound design and mixing predictions for the 2014 Oscars and while I am already leaning toward Oblivion as a major contender, the work in Man of Steel won't be forgotten. Give it a watch below.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to make Swansea midfielder Scott Sinclair his first summer signing, according to reports in The Sun.
The Premier League Champions have been suspiciously quiet in the transfer market thus far, but after Swansea failed to talk Sinclair into signing a new deal, Mancini has been alerted to the players potential availability.
Sinclair is in the final year of his contract at the Liberty Stadium, and chairman Chris Jenkins said:
“At this level of football and with the transfer money which could come in with players leaving in the final year of their contract, we wouldn’t want to go down that route again of allowing a player to let his contract run out again.
“With Scott being a first-team regular we need a decision one way or the other as soon as possible so the manager can be clear in his mind on where...
