"Michaeljohn" is the umbrella name used for members of the MichaelJohn hair salon founded by Michael Rasser and John Isaacs. Clients of MichaelJohn have included politicians and diplomats, members of the
royal family, actors: Rosamund Pike, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Minnie Driver, Liza Minnelli, Julie Andrews, Dustin Hoffman, and many others. Some clients remained loyal to the MichaelJohn for 30 years.
Michael Rasser and John Isaacs were working together as hair stylists at the legendary 1960s-70s hairdresser Leonard Lewis of Mayfair (see Leonard), where they envisioned a salon that provided exceptional services in a comfortable environment, resulting in the founding of MichaelJohn in 1967. Michael soon became known for his dedicated and personal service, attracting celebrities such as Mick Jagger, supermodel Iman, Liza Minnelli and Princess Anne.
In 1978, a second MichaelJohn salon was opened in Beverly Hills, California. Co-owner John Isaacs left the London salon to manage this new venture and work as a stylist there.
During the early 1990s, MichaelJohn relocated to a new, spacious salon on Albemarle Street. In 2001, Michael was awarded the Royal Victoria Medal in recognition of his contribution to hairdressing and his commitment to training the succeeding generation of hair stylists.
