The newest resident on Sesame Street wears bright orange suspenders and a bowtie to match. The Sesame Workshop has collaborated with Blippi on a series of videos that will be released across both brands’ respective channels.
The partnership launches on February 3 and features Sesame Street characters like Big Bird, Elmo, Abby, and Herb the Dinosaur. They’ll meet up with Blippi (whose real name is Stevin John) and his friend Meekah (real name Kaitlin Becker), who both lead educational adventures for Blippi’s 19.3 million YouTube subscribers.
In their collabs with Sesame Street characters, Blippi and Meekah will operate an excavator, give Big Bird a paleontology lesson, and help Abby plan a surprise party for Elmo. The partnership includes multiple original songs to go along with its positive messaging and scientific syllabus. It’s unclear whether Elmo will ask viewers how they’re doing.

It's always a sunny day on Sesame Street, but for much of the week, things were not A-ok in the land of the Muppets.
On January 24, Big Bird, the show's eight-foot-tall, anthropomorphic canary, stunned fans when he revealed he'd shrunk down to the size of a paper clip, prompting questions about the physical mechanics of his transformation and its impact on his mental health. As his identity crisis worsened, Big Bird — now just "Bird," as he described himself — sought help from his friends, but he was so tiny that they couldn't even see him. He languished in his emotional prison until January 30, when he announced his return to big-dom. "What an adventure the last 7 days have been," he posted on Twitter/X. "I learned so much by seeing the world from a different perspective."...

When word got out that HBO Max was working on a Velma origin story, fan responses were all over the place. It's not that "Scooby-Doo" fans dislike the four-eyed, orange-clad investigator who's been integral to Mystery Inc. since it first began in 1969. Rather, the hesitant responses to "Velma" were related to other aspects of the Mindy Kaling-led show, including its adult humor and violence, changes in animation style and characterization, and a conspicuous lack of the crime-solving Great Dane himself.
But if you look closely at the history of the long-running franchise, it's clear that for as long as Scooby and the gang have been on the air in some form or another, the shows have been repeatedly reinventing. And while that constant reinvention has often caused cyclical, ahistorical outrage from picky viewers, it's also the key to what makes "Scooby-Doo" so satisfying after all these years.

Here’s a Great picture whose time has come — Theodore J. Flicker’s spy spoof is one of the smartest, funniest political satires ever, and probably James Coburn’s finest hour as an actor-producer. A high-class shrink knows too many Presidential secrets, making him an international espionage target in a giddy spy chase. Everything leads to an absurd-sounding Sci-fi conspiracy that’s quickly becoming a reality. Coburn’s hipster cred holds up well, abetted by a great lineup of talent, led by improv pioneers Godfrey Cambridge and Severn Darden.

No one sets out to make a cult movie. Most filmmakers aspire to commercial heights even if they only have the budgets for a B-movie. They see films like Blair Witch realign box office accounting and apply all kinds of quantum physics to mimic the exponential multiplication. Very few achieve it, and the ones which do usually do it by accident, and certainly not with serious intent. Aliens, Clowns & Geeks is not afraid to be ridiculous. It joins the ranks as such brave films as Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, and Frankenhooker.
It is also so much more than these films, dripping with artistry, and yet considerably less, with masturbating aliens, pussy ping pong, and sphincter-pinching obelisks. Richard Elfman’s sci-fi comedy has an abundance of experimental fun and a happily reckless disregard for taste. It owes as much to Frank Zappa as it does to Frank Capra,...

At the Jan. 3 AFI Awards, Mel Brooks interrupted his speech about the American Film Institute’s women directors program to praise Taika Waititi for Searchlight’s “Jojo Rabbit.” However, he joked, the filmmaker “did not ask my permission to use Hitler!”
It got a big laugh (as Brooks usually does) for the reference to his 1968 movie “The Producers” and the 2001 musical. Brooks may be synonymous with comedic Nazis, but he hardly invented the concept.
On Aug. 14, 1940, Variety hailed the Hitler-Mussolini satire “The Great Dictator” as “probably the motion picture industry’s greatest one-man show,” because Charlie Chaplin, wrote, directed, starred and totally financed the $2.2 million film himself. The reviewer wrote, “The preaching is strong, notably in the six-minute speech at the finish, but also in the comedy.”
Two years later, Ernst Lubitsch directed (from Edwin Justus Meyer’s script) “To Be or Not to Be,” a 1942 film about Hitler’s 1939 invasion of Poland.

Amid the chaos that was 2019, the show business industry lost some major players. There were icons of the big screen and TV, along with such legends as Broadway director Harold Prince and actress Carol Channing; singers Eddie Money, Ric Ocasek and José José; musicians Peter Tork, Ginger Baker and Dr. John; and composers Michel Legrand, André Previn and Jerry Herman, to name just a few of the year’s high-profile passings.
Hollywood also lost groundbreaking directors, unforgettable writers, and executives.
Familiar actors who left us this year include Robert Forster, Luke Perry, Katherine Helmond, Rutger Hauer, Jan-Michael Vincent, Arte Johnson, Rip Torn, Diahann Carroll, Peter “Chewbacca” Mayhew, Cameron Boyce, Bob Einstein, Seymour Cassel, Michael J. Pollard and Danny Aiello.

For George Schlatter, the creator of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, there was a key moment when the Classic TV comedy sketch series had gone from an oddity to cultural phenomenon: Sammy Davis, Jr., an old friend, was making a guest appearance on the show. They were joking around with comedy bits involving a judge, when, according to George, Sammy came up with the phrase, "Here come da judge!", which would lead into a sketch about the banter between a defendant and a judge dressed in black robe and oversized wig (becoming a national catchphrase in the process). "We taped 'Here Come Da Judge' at two in the morning," says George exclusively. "It was so funny that we put it on the next show. Suddenly people were walking down the hall saying, 'Here come da judge.' The show went on that Monday night, and Tuesday or Wedneday morning when the Supreme Court came into the courtroom,...

We here at ComicMix celebrate all manner of pop culture from today’s obvious hits to the arcane wonders of yesteryear. every now and then we get a notice about something that seems just outside our realm of interest but there’s a thing or two that grabs us. Something like an unaired pilot to the legendary Dr. Kildare series is one of those things. Not only that, but the series gave us Richard Chamberlain as a star (long before he was resurrected for Leverage). The show not only boasted an impressive guest cast, as noted below but it featured some of the best writers working in television including a pre-Star Trek Gene Roddenberry. So, here’s the press release for those who remember and remain interested:

In my years as a Movie Geek I have watched a lot of strange stuff. I can well remember the first time I saw Eraserhead, at the Naro theatre at midnight, sometime in 1979, in Norfolk, Virginia, during my Navy years. I recall seeing El Topo and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls at the Tivoli Theater in St. Louis in the early 80s. I saw Le Bete, a wonderful mix of art house and horror movie by Walerian Borowczyk in a theatre in Barcelona, Spain, again during my time in the Navy, with a packed house of Spanish, French, English and Dutch (and who knows how many other nationalities) cinema fans who loved the movie so much they gave it a standing ovation. That is one of my fondest movie memories (if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend La Bete, and everything else Borowczyk has done.

We rejoiced when Boston model/actor Rob Wilson was announced as the The Price is Right's first male model. Hooray for bare chests adorned with price-tag stickers! Wilson will begin straddling jetskis and wielding Plinko chips for a one-week stint beginning October 15, and hopefully he'll do well enough that men become a permanent addition to the modeling staff. In the meantime, we have a few decades of game show brawn to remember:

General Hospital's General Television
In 1978, Gloria Monty pushed the ABC serial into the modern era. She left in 1986 but now has returned-and aims to drag it into the 1990s.

One morning a few years ago, an actress was rehearsing her lines on General Hospital. On her blouse she wore an innocent tiny yellow duck pin. Suddenly from the anonymity of the control booth boomed the voice of executive producer Gloria Monty, ever on the watch for anything that might detract from the show: "Lose the duck."
Wiry, petite, 5-foot-2, maybe 85 pounds after a big meal, Monty doesn't look so tough. But she's a Hollywood heavyweight, a brawler who took on the ABC serial in 1978 and punched and pummeled it into the modern era. She left in 1986 but now has returned-her name goes on the credit roll today-and aims to drag it into the 1990s.

Mark Bessenger Hey horror fans. Remember how we've all been complaining about an array of lifeless horror film remakes and bland horror film concepts? So when something comes along that tries to give us something different, something edgy, we should be out there supporting it, right? ....Well Bite Marks starring Windham Beacham, Benjamin Lutz, David Alanson and Stephen Geoffreys, is that film! Bite Marks deals with a truck driver and a gay couple who must fight off a pack of blood thirsty vampires after their truck breaks down in the middle of a lumber yard and it turns out their cargo is a coffin carrying vamps. What makes Bite Marks different is its humor, the way that its characters develop, the merger of horror/comedy/gay indie film, etc. You're probably saying to yourself though "but that's the gay vampire film?". Gay, straight, black, white, low budget, big budget -...

She caused guys at the drive-in movies of the '50s and the readers of Playboy to swoon, counted Cary Grant and the actor Jim Hutton (father of Timothy Hutton) among her lovers, and even appeared - briefly - opposite Paul Newman in the Oscar-winning Hud. But when it came to Hollywood endings, pinup model and actress Yvette Vickers reached a heartbreaking fadeout. As her uncollected mail gathered cobwebs outside, inside Vickers's dilapidated Los Angeles home last Wednesday, police, acting on a concerned neighbor's tip, discovered the mummified remains of the onetime 36"-24"-36" cult star of the space-alien B-movies...

This year Christina Applegate, Kenneth Branagh, Faith Hill, Eric Idle, Arte Johnson, Eugene Levy, Tim McGraw, William Shatner, Martin Short and Tracey Ullman will join Hanks and Wilson in a reading of The Merry Wives of Windsor. The one night only performance takes place on May 9 at UCLA's Royce Hall.
As part of the fundraiser, the Scla is auctioning off a speaking role (just one line, but it still counts) to the highest bidder.
