Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) is a fist-bumping, cocky, and beloved senior resident at Chastain Memorial. He know the ropes, he knows the rules and how to break them… he knows just about everything. And to Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal), one of the hospital’s baby-faced and optimistic new residents, it’s terrifying. While other residents seem to be rolling with the punches, Devon feels like he’s been put in the ring for a fight he can’t win. Then there’s Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood), a community hero — and Devon’s idol — who seemingly can do no wrong. But that might be because there’s a bit of a medical malpractice cover-up going on…
In The Resident, from creators Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza), Hayley Schore (Call Jane), and Roshan Sethi (Call Jane), Devon learns the hard way what hospital life is really like.

“This is the only person to run a studio who knows how to make a movie,” director Allan Arkush exclaimed, hailing his former boss Roger Corman in front of a sold-out crowd at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica Saturday evening.
Now 97 years old, the unbelievably prolific Pope of Pop Cinema was the guest of honor at the genre-focused Beyond Fest, in partnership with American Cinematheque. Corman joined for a panel with Arkush, fellow directors Ron Howard, Joe Dante and Amy Holden Jones and producer Jon Davison — all of whom Corman helped launch into Hollywood under his independent production and distribution company New World Pictures, founded in 1970. After directing more than 45 features, Corman decided to create his own banner, which would go on to help jumpstart the careers of Jonathan Demme, Curtis Hanson and countless other talents.
“I made a picture for American International that made too much money, ‘The Wild Angels.

Shudder is a streaming service that is specifically dedicated to the horror genre, so it’s only fitting that we here on Arrow in the Head should compile a list of the Best Horror Movies on Shudder Right Now. As with all streamers, Shudder has movies that come and go on a regular basis, but if you head over there today here are some of the best movies you can find on the service:

Let’s think for just a moment on the horror genre in the 1980s. Where does your mind take you? For me, slasher movies were the go-to genre of the decade, specifically the early years. They were flawed… yes, and mostly pretty bad, subjectively. But at the same time, they’re fun little thrill rides which deliver on the promise of the tropes and rules one would expect from these films. They all for the most part follow the same formula we are all too familiar with. You have your sex-crazed teenagers who spend their weekend fueling themselves with red cups of beer, doing drugs, and engaging in the occasional premarital sex. "The Resident" season 6 ended its relatively short run back in January, but Fox waited a long time to weigh in on the fate of the long-running series. At long last, it has been confirmed that this is the end for Conrad Hawkins and the rest of the staff at Chastain Memorial Hospital. Yes, sad to say for fans of the show, it will not be returning for a seventh season, so the season 6 finale will ultimately serve as the series finale.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has officially canceled the medical show after six full seasons and 107 episodes. The series was produced by 20th Century Television and was created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi. It's worth pointing out that "The Resident" season 6 was the shortest in the show's history at just 13 episodes, and that may have, in hindsight, been a bit of writing on the wall.

The Resident is no more at Fox.
The network has canceled its medical drama after six seasons. The decision comes nearly three months after The Resident, produced by Disney’s 20th Television, finished its 13-episode sixth season.
Speculation about the show’s fate has swirled since the season — the shortest of the show’s six — ended. The Resident had its lowest-rated season to date among adults 18-49, averaging a 0.53 rating in the key ad demographic over seven days of viewing (versus 0.7 last season). According to Fox, the show’s cross-platform audience of 6.9 million viewers was down 12 percent from the 2021-22 season.
When The Resident premiered in January 2018, 20th TV was still part of the 21st Century Fox family that included the broadcast network. A month earlier, though, Fox and Disney had agreed to a $71 billion sale of the studio and several cable assets to Disney; that deal closed in 2019.

Our time with the docs at Chastain is officially over. Fox has canceled The Resident after six seasons. The news comes months after the Season 6 finale aired on January 17. Season 6 averaged a 0.5 L7 rating in Adults 18-49 (down 27 percent from a year ago) and 6.9 million total multiplatform viewers (down 12 percent). Compared to its first season in 2018, which ended up being its last (consisting of 13 episodes) was down 69 percent and 35 percent in the aforementioned rating and viewership. Because they didn’t know if they’d be renewed, Chapman and creator Amy Holden Jones crafted the last episode of Season 6 to serve as a series finale. “[We] really thought hard about how we would construct storylines that would give closure to the season, but if it had to be a series finale, would give our audience ...

Even in a generally well-liked horror franchise like Slumber Party Massacre, there is still that one entry that fans do not rally around as much as others. And among the four films produced so far, Sally Mattison’s Slumber Party Massacre III is routinely slept on. However, this series’ third depiction of a sleepover gone terribly awry not only brings back the harshness of the original film, it also delivers an unusual perspective.
The first slasher trend had all but ended by 1990, but unseasonableness has never stopped a producer like Roger Corman. And as with the previous Slumber Party Massacre films, the third was directed and written by women, including a script by the late Catherine Cyran. This rushed, micro-budget film works from the same familiar prompt; a male assailant stalks and kills hapless, scantily clad women as they gather for what should have been a night of fun and play.

Cape Town, Feb 24 (Ians) South Africa edged England in a thrilling semifinal to reach their first-ever Icc Womens T20 World Cup final with a six-run win here on Friday.
Tazmin Brits’s 68 set South Africa up for a commanding total of 164 for four, as she combined for a 96-run opening stand with Laura Wolvaardt, with no bowler safe from an onslaught.
England looked to respond in the same vein, racing to 50 runs before wickets regularly halted their progress, Brits taking four catches in the performance of a lifetime.
Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight tried to steer England home, but they could not deny South Africa a place in the showpiece on home soil.

Cape Town, Feb 22 (Ians) Star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt believes England’s dominating 114-run defeat of Pakistan was an opportunity to show everyone what they’re about as a team as her side twice made history in their final group game of the ongoing Icc Womens T20 World Cup 2023.
England’s mammoth win against Pakistan on Tuesday night was the biggest margin of victory in Icc Women’s T20 World Cups, while their total of 213 for five was the first time a women’s team had passed 200 in the tournament.
Sciver-Brunt played a crucial knock of 81 not out off 40 balls, anchoring a fifty partnership with Danni Wyatt before putting on 100 for the fifth wicket with Amy Jones.
With the ball, there were welcome wickets for Katherine Sciver-Brunt (2/14) and Charlie Dean (2/28), as Pakistan’s top order failed to fire.
“Previously in the tournament, I think we’ve been building up to a performance like this.

Richa has moved into the top 20 of the Women’s T20I rankings for batters for the first time after some good scores in the ongoing Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. Her unbeaten knocks of 41 against the West Indies and 47 against England in the last week have lifted her 16 places to 20th position.
Richa also became the fifth Indian to be in the top 20 alongside vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (third), Shafali Verma (10th), Jemimah Rodrigues (12th) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (13th) in the list led by Australia’s fast-bowling all-rounder Tahlia McGrath.
In the rankings for the bowlers, Renuka’s incredible haul of five for 15 against England has lifted her seven places to a career-best fifth position.

Cape Town (South Africa), Feb 20 (Ians) England may have secured qualification for the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 semi-finals but wicket-keeper batter Amy Jones says her side is still searching for a ‘complete performance’ as they prepare to conclude their group stage against Pakistan.
An 11-run victory against India at St George’s Park on Saturday made it three wins from three and England are now looking to seal the top spot with a victory over a Pakistan side whose slim qualification hopes rest on a win here and an Ireland victory over India.
Jones struck 40 from 27 deliveries against India and believes the squad are embracing head coach Jon Lewis’ aggressive batting blueprint.
“We’ve had three good games, but we keep saying we’re still searching for the complete performance. In terms of how we’ve gone about those three games, I think it’s been brilliant,” said Jones.

Fox has announced a script-to-series commitment for Amy Holden Jones’ drama “Archie & Pete.”
According to the logline, the hour-long drama follows “an explosive, rule-breaking, fearless female detective with no filter enlists the help of a polite and gentle brainiac who studies the biology of evil to solve cases for the Los Angeles Violent Crimes Unit.” Fox Entertainment is the studio.
The show is being developed as part of Fox’s script-to-series process. As the network will no longer shoot pilots, it instead develops several scripts before deciding whether to go forward with a series order.
Jones will write and serve as an executive producer alongside Matt Nix. Sources share Jones’ involvement with the series will be in second position behind “The Resident,” where she’ll continue to serve as executive producer should that show return.

The Resident creator Amy Holden Jones is turning to crime.
Holden Jones, whose medical drama has just finished its sixth and possibly final season on Fox, has teamed up with The Gifted and Burn Notice creator Matt Nix to develop a new crime procedural for the network.
Archie & Pete follows an explosive, rule-breaking, fearless female detective with no filter enlists the help of a polite and gentle brainiac who studies the biology of evil to solve cases for the Los Angeles Violent Crimes Unit.
Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox, told Deadline that he hasn’t made a decision on the future of The Resident yet.
If the Matt Czuchry-fronted series does continue, Holden Jones’ involvement with Archie & Pete will be in second position behind The Resident and she would be involved in both.
It comes as Deadline revealed that Nix just signed a direct broadcast deal with Fox Entertainment.

The slasher film. Across several decades, one of the most dominating sub-genres in the entire horror sphere. From the beginning days of the formative slashers in the 1970s, all the way to today’s reboots, sequels, and fresh originals. From classic icons such as Michael Myers to modern killers like Mia Goth’s Pearl. The slasher truly lives forever, proving it’s always in fashion.
One of the most unique slashers is a movie that just celebrated its 40th anniversary. A movie that spawned a series of films written and directed entirely by women, a rarity in the genre.
That movie? The Slumber Party Massacre.
Released in 1982, The Slumber Party Massacre started life as an on-the-nose horror movie that would essentially be a send-up of genre tropes. This original screenplay was titled Sleepless Nights and was authored by famed feminist writer Rita Mae Brown as a parody of the often dominated slasher film genre,...

In one of the stranger coincidences of the 2022-23 TV season, two medical dramas said their goodbyes on Tuesday — New Amsterdam on NBC and The Resident on Fox. It was a series finale for the former; as much as creator/showrunner David Schulner and Executive Producer Peter Horton didn’t think their five-year-old series should be canceled, they had enough time to plan a hopeful ending for the Ryan Eggold starrer.
After six seasons on Fox, The Resident hasn’t been canceled … yet. But Tuesday’s finale dubbed “All Hands On Deck” had all the makings of a final farewell. Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) got his happy ending by declaring his love for Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas). Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) came clean about his drug addiction and got to keep his job at Chastain Memorial after saving young Sammie, the granddaughter of Dr. Bell (Bruce Greenwood...

New Delhi, Jan 6 (Ians) Teenaged all-rounder Alice Capsey has been named in Englands 15-member squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup, to be held from February 10-26 in South Africa. Alice, 18, is named in the squad as she continues her recovery post breaking her collarbone during the tour of the West Indies in December 2022.
“We hope Alice is fit enough, she’s worked incredibly hard alongside the medical staff to get to this point and we’ll give her every chance, but as we saw in the Caribbean the depth of talent and skill in the squad is growing fast and winning tournaments is about everyone collectively embracing the moment and enjoying the journey,” said head coach Jon Lewis in an official statement.

As was first reported by Variety, the Emmy-nominated director, producer, and writer, Catherine Cyran, passed away at the age of 59 on December 24, 2022, another tragic loss too soon from cancer.
Cyran's name may not be easily recognizable, but her legacy will live on in a varied career spanning multiple mediums and genres. After graduating from Harvard and working for the Royal Shakespeare Company for two years, Cyran got her start in the world of cinema under the tutelage of legendary B-movie producer Roger Corman, having gotten her start as an executive assistant. She would later go on to produce and write the screenplay for "Slumber Party Massacre III," "Dead Space" starring Bryan Cranston, "Uncaged" starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, "Fire on the Amazon" with Sandra Bullock, the Independent Spirit Award-nominated "Kiss Me A Killer," and ghost-wrote "Frankenstein Unbound," Corman's last feature as a director.

The Resident Boss Explains That 'Overwhelming' Fall Finale Cliffhanger: Will Padma Survive Season 6?
The Resident delivered a cliffhanger of the most literal variety in its Dec. 6 fall finale, as new mom Padma contemplated taking her own life while in the throes of postpartum depression.
Naturally, series co-creator Amy Holden Jones can’t say exactly what will happen when the Fox drama returns on Jan. 3 (8/7c). But after the show left Padma poised to potentially jump off a bridge, Jones offers insight as to why Padma’s suicide attempt felt like an understandable choice for the character.

London, Dec 8 (Ians) England women’s team has said that they have added Maia Bouchier and Alice Davidson-Richards to their T20I squad for the series against West Indies after teenaged cricketer Alice Capsey was sent back home due to a broken collarbone.

Showtime's "The Offer" chronicled the true story of how "The Godfather" made the unlikely leap from Mario Puzo's bestseller to a sweeping family epic that reinvented the crime genre and went on to win three Oscars. Centered around the day-to-day dealings and improbable situations that producer Albert Ruddy (Miles Teller) had to navigate to get Francis Ford Coppola's classic made, "The Offer" also highlights the glamorous and tumultuous life of legendary producer Robert Evans (Matthew Goode), the man responsible for helping Paramount Pictures become a major Hollywood player after taking a big risk on the romantic drama "Love Story" starring Ryan O'Neal and Ali MacGraw.
MacGraw and Evans married each other in 1969, a year before "Love Story" became a smash hit, sending MacGraw's star soaring. She went on to accept an unlikely role opposite Steve McQueen in "The Getaway," the Sam Peckinpah-directed high-flying heist movie written by Walter Hill.

If there's a holiday, there's probably a horror movie about it. Halloween is obviously the top dog, with plenty of solid options even beyond John Carpenter's seminal classic, but it doesn't stand alone. There are lots of Christmas-themed horror flicks, too, including enduring favorites like "Black Christmas" and "Krampus." The Fourth of July practically mandates a rewatch of "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Valentine's Day, of course, has its own early-'00s slasher.
Yet, likely by dint of its proximity to Christmas, filmmakers have gone cold turkey when it comes to serving up a heaping platter of Thanksgiving-related horror. It's inexplicable, too, given just how fruitful — and terrifying — the thought of family members both old and new gathering in one place really is. Dramas like "Pieces of April" and comedies like "The Oath" relish in Thanksgiving discomfort, but the horror genre is strangely resistant.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 7 “The Chimera.”] At the beginning of the season, co-creator Amy Holden Jones teased “potential with someone new” when it comes to Dr. Billie Sutton’s (Jessica Lucas) love life on The Resident moving forward after Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) got together. And in “The Chimera,” it looks like we met that “new” person: Ian Anthony Dale’s Dr. James Yamada. But first, Conrad must deal with the semi-fallout of him and Billie dancing at Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) and Dr. Randolph Bell’s (Bruce Greenwood) wedding. As Dr. Aj Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) says to Conrad, he thought he’d end up with Billie, then told himself he was wrong after seeing him with Cade, but then saw that dance… All Conrad says is that Cade wanted to be there but ...

London, Nov 2 (Ians) A total of six new players — Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean, Freya Kemp, Emma Lamb and Issy Wong — on Wednesday were awarded their first England Women’s central contract in the list for 2022-23.

But when the medical case of the week prompted Cade to stay at her patient’s bedside instead of attending the wedding, Conrad flew solo, paving the way for Billie to ask...

On Oct. 25, Fox will air the 100th episode of The Resident, the episodic drama that celebrates the heroism and dysfunction present in the American medical system. But the show almost didn’t make it to air after being dropped by its developer Showtime and eventually rescued by a joint effort from Fox and 20th Television. Now a successful and beloved Tuesday night staple, it crosses the milestone once thought to signal inevitable syndication — and in the world of streaming disruption, the landmark episode serves as a reminder that network shows are still competing in a big way. To mark the occasion, executive producers Amy Holden Jones and Andrew Chapman spoke to THR about what it was like to get the series off the ground and what they’re most proud of.

A few months ago, one of our doctor-writers on The Resident called me near tears. A teenager had been brought into his emergency room. The teen had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. To the head. According to our doctor-writer, the trauma to the teen’s body was horrific. The doctors and the nurses in the ER worked tirelessly to try to save the teen, but they could not. After a few hours, the teen was declared dead.
The parents, of course, were devastated, their tragedy beyond words. But our doctor was shattered as well. Everyone in the ER was equally grief-stricken. Two med students, rounding in the hospital for the day, cried so uncontrollably that they had to be sent home. The teen had been a model student, had shown no signs of depression or mental illness. The whole incident was painful, horrible, tragic.

Though their “’80s Horror” lineup would constitute enough of a Halloween push, the Criterion Channel enter October all guns blazing. The month’s lineup also includes a 19-movie vampire series running from 1931’s Dracula (English and Spanish both) to 2014’s A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, the collection in-between including Herzog’s Nosferatu, Near Dark, and Let the Right One In. Last year’s “Universal Horror” collection returns, a 17-title Ishirō Honda retrospective has been set, and a few genre titles stand alone: Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte, The House of the Devil, and Island of Lost Souls.
Streaming premieres include restorations of Tsai Ming-liang’s Vive L’amour and Ed Lachman’s Lou Reed / John Cale concert film Songs for Drella; October’s Criterion editions are Samuel Fuller’s Forty Guns, Bill Duke’s Deep Cover, Haxan, and My Own Private Idaho. Meanwhile, Ari Aster has curated an “Adventures...
