Antares de la Luz Is this the man who committed one of the most atrocious crimes in all of Chile’s history? Originally named Ramon, he switched to Antares, which is the name of the brightest star of the Scorpio constellation. Antares’ narcissism only began with the changing of his name, as he would go on to mark his name as one of the very best dumb cult leaders to live.
How did Ramon find enlightenment?
A member of a band called Amaru, Ramon was a hardcore musician who could play the clarinet, saxophone, and charango with ease. Somewhere down the line, his interests shifted from music to religious practices. From an early age, Ramon used to feel severe pain inside his body, and it wouldn’t let him sleep. Ramon found ayahuasca to relieve him from the pain, and it helped at first. After a few days, he decided...

Following Salzburg, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Paris, Claus Guth’s critically acclaimed 2008 adaptation of Don Giovanni is presented at the Opera House. The title role of this provocative, youthful production (sold out weeks before the 2 March 2024 Budapest premiere) is performed by Gábor Bretz and Károly Szemerédy, the ensembles of the Hungarian State Opera are conducted by principal conductor Martin Rajna.
Don Juan, the arrogant womanizer who defies the heavens, has inspired authors in various art forms for centuries. Maluma stopped by The Tonight Show to perform his vibe-laden single “Según Quién.” The musician gave a slick performance of the pop-norteño track, a collaboration with Carin Leon that was released in August, with the help of his band.
The Colombian musician later sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to chat about his recent album, Don Juan, which has garnered over a billion streams since its release this summer. He also discussed being a groomsman in Marc Anthony’s star-studded wedding and, of course, the TikTok trend for “Según Quién.

Even if you're just a casual "Star Wars" fan, you probably know that George Lucas drew significant inspiration for his sprawling space saga from the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa ("The Hidden Fortress" in particular) and the hero's journey monomyth as explicated by Joseph Campbell. The ideas and tropes contained in these works were combined to form the sturdiest of foundations, one that now supports an ever-expanding collection of TV shows, cartoons, video games, books, and so on.
What you might not know is that when Lucas was building this universe in the early 1970s, he also drew influence from one of the era's most notorious con men.
For as long as people have been into spiritualism and religion, there have always been opportunists seeking to exploit this genuine (if often naive) yearning for financial gain. Barnstorming revivalists and faith healers have made a fortune off the gullibility of the masses,...

An everyman’s guide to the birds and the bees, it ambled through its range of racy topics, from sodomy, cunnilingus to, um, plastic surgery for the genitalia, with both commonsensical and alarmingly retrograde attitudes, dispensing its advice with all the excitement of an insurance agent’s visit. Chicago – Currently, one of the best monologists in Chicago – and certainly one of the nuttiest – is John Michael. After notorious and successful runs of his last two one-man shows, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Penix” and “Dementia Me,’ Michael is taking on his dating life once again in the fun and hilarious “Meatball Seance.” The show has a Thursday night slot at Mary’s Attic in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood through April 6th, 2017. Click here for more details, including ticket information.
Play Rating: 5.0/5.0
John Michael keeps his shows fluid by using crowd participation, and his latest one-man story time has members of the audience on stage with him for about 90% of the time. It is a perfect way to illustrate his up-and-down dating life, told in uproarious detail by Michael, wearing an apron, socks and designer underwear. Produced and Directed by Billy Wilder
A favorite of Billy Wilder-philes, Love in the Afternoon is a strong expression of the ‘romantic-Lubitsch’ vein in Wilder’s work. It’s essentially a return to the early ’30s Lubitsch comedies with Maurice Chevalier, but played in a more bittersweet Viennese register. It’s also Wilder’s first collaboration with the comedy screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond. Together they fashion the predominantly verbal comedy machine that will carry them through three or four big hits, and a few losers that have become classics anyway.

“Come. It is time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man”.
Christopher Lee claimed The Wicker Man (1973) was the greatest film he was ever part of. For good reasons, as this is one of the most unusual and original cinematic masterpieces ever brought to screen and an absolute must-see for everybody interested in movies. The unique greatness of The Wicker Man combines elements from a variety of genres; Horror, Thriller, Mystery, Fantasy, Drama, and even Musical, but it cannot really be limited to one particular genre. Scottish police sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) is called by an anonymous letter to investigate the disappearance of a young girl on the remote Scottish island Summerisle. This podcast focuses on Criterion’s Eclipse Series of DVDs. Hosts David Blakeslee and Trevor Berrett give an overview of each box and offer their perspectives on the unique treasures they find inside. In this episode, David and Trevor discuss Eclipse Series 16: Alexander Korda’s Private Lives.
About the films:
Though born to modest means in Hungary, Alexander Korda would go on to become one of the most important filmmakers in the history of British cinema. A producer, writer, and director who navigated toward subjects of major historical significance and mythical distinction, Korda made a name for his production company, London Films, with the Oscar-winning The Private Life of Henry VIII. He then continued his populist investigation behind the scenes and in the bedrooms of such figures as Catherine the Great, Don Juan, and Rembrandt. Mixing stately period drama with surprising satire, these films are exemplars of grand 1930s moviemaking.

The New Erotic Adventures Of Casanova
(1977, dir: Carlos Tobalina)
John Holmes (Eruption) stars as John, a man who has recently inherited and sold off the estate of his late great grandfather. Looking for something of a keepsake, he visits the antique dealer (Tory Jeffery, The Autobiography of a Flea) and is given a bottle of cologne found in a desk. The cologne belongs to great Casanova and was used to scent his love letters. He applies some to his clothes and this leads to the first of many sexual encounters, this time being with the cleaner of the motel he is staying at. Once getting dirty with cleaner, he visits his family while he’s in town. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your preference) the effect of the cologne rubs off on them, leading John to literally rub off on them. Yes, even his underage cousins fall foul to magic of this scent.

Jerzy Sladkowski’s documentary centres on an autistic man whose mother attempts to make him ‘normal’.
Paris-based documentary specialist Cat&Docs has acquired international rights to Jerzy Sladkowski’s Don Juan, which last night won the Idfa Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary.
Maelle Guenegues, who handles acquisitions at Cat&Docs alongside company president Catherine Le Clef, said the pair had screened the film early on in International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (Idfa) (Nov 18-29).
“We immediately agreed it was our type of film,” said Guenegues. “It’s a very intimate documentary about an autistic boy whose mother is putting him through all sorts of treatments to make him a real man.
“It reads like a fiction. It’s a great story, very well done.”
Polish-born, Sweden-based Sladkowski is best known for his award-winning 2010 film Vodka Factory, which captured the humdrum lives and contrasting dreams of female factory workers in Russia.

Doctor Who is returning next week for it's ninth season. Peter Capaldi is back once again in the title role. He's gotten good reviews for his portrayal of the character. Capaldi is the 13th actor to play the eponymous Time Lord hero. Cinelinx looks back at the previous decades of Doctor Who and rates all the lead actors of the show's long history.
The First Doctor (Played by William Hartnell) was an aging, eccentric curmudgeon. He had little patience and he didn't suffer fools gladly. He could be very intolerant and dismissive of his traveling companions (except for his beloved Granddaughter Susan) although he started to lighten up as the show went on, learning to enjoy a bemused chuckle once in a while. He started out as an anti-hero but slowly grew into the selfless hero we know today.

★★★★☆ Opening with spectacular aerial shots of the labyrinthine Andalusian wetlands, where the raped and mutilated bodies of two local teenage girls are found, Marshland's (2014) plot twists prove as compelling, obscure, and ultimately treacherous as the terrain it features. True Detective fans will doubtless be struck by thematic similarities between the popular Us TV series and Alberto Rodriguez's brooding, stylish neo-noir. But the film's meticulously researched, realistic focus on rural 1980s post-fascist Spain is all Rodriguez's own. A volatile society in transition is embodied by a mismatched pair of detectives who are forced to compromise in order to solve the case.

Damon Wayans was the second major cast member from "In Living Color" to leave the show, after Kim Coles. He departed following the third season to pursue a big screen career, starring in films like "The Last Boy Scout," "Blankman" and "Major Payne." But during his time with the show, he left an unmistakable signature that can be felt across a number of colorful characters. Think of "In Living Color" and you're bound to have the image of an angry, put-upon clown flash through your head (Homey D. Clown), or perhaps a pair of flamboyant critics giving the weekend's latest release "two snaps up" ("Men On…"). These were some of Wayans' trademark sketches, coming at a time when, as he says in our extended feature on the series' 25th anniversary, he was eager for redemption after being fired from "Saturday Night Live." Here are the beginnings and inspirations for those sketches and more,...

This sex comedy’s lead is creepy and cringeworthy, but at least the film manages to take a small step away from the genre’s usual crass misogyny
Mandar Ponkshe (Gulshan Devaiah), this sex comedy’s eponymous hunter (with extra Rs thrown in for the sheer joy of rolling them off one’s tongue), is single and pushing 40, and much to the consternation of his largely married friends, takes the opportunity to have sex wherever he finds it. Entirely unremarkable in the looks and charm department and employing a scattershot approach to seduction, Mandar is less Don Juan and more Woody Allen. But while Allen’s persona made himself endearing by botching things, Mandar makes us wince. And by being 20 years his targets’ senior by the end of the film, he’s a fully fledged creep.
But creeps have feelings too. This is Harshavardhan Kulkarni’s feature debut and even with its flaws,...

Here is a sentence that is only possible after Chris Hemsworth hosted Saturday Night Live last night: He makes a terrible perfume salesman. That's kind of the point: The movie star, and People's reigning Sexiest Man Alive, starred as partially clothed "Don Juan de Dark Hole" alongside Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong, reprising their "not porn stars any more" Brecky and a lady who we weren't supposed to know is still alive. The trio were hawking Dolce & Gabbana fragrances, although not one of them could pronounce the Italian brand's name, which instead came out as "Dullky & Gabbaba," "Douche & Go bye bye" and so on.

Title: Vinodentro (Wine Within) Director: Ferdinando Vicentini Orgnani Starring: Vincenzo Amato, Pietro Sermonti, Daniela Virgilio, Lambert Wilson, Giovanna Mezzogiorno. A pretentiously inebriating film is what could define ‘Vinodentro’ (i.e. Wine Within). The actual drama begins with Giovanni Cuttin’s first sip of wine, which changes his carrier, his marriage, and his attitude to life in general. In a Faust-like setting, the main character sells his soul to a fiendish-wine entity who enables him to get a promotion, become a Don Juan and an expert in wine tasting. What interferes with his newly accomplished life is the mysterious death of his wife, which seems to frame him as the culprit. The investigations [ Read More ]

A review of tonight's "Masters of Sex" coming up just as soon as I try a special tonic straight from India... "You think it's enough to fix the outside. That's the easy part." -Frank Last week's episode squeezed the passage of three years into a single hour. "Mirror, Mirror" takes place over only a week or so, yet in some ways feels like it's taking just as big a leap forward — if not always gracefully. Over the course of the episode, Virginia not only convinces Bill to start examining sexual dysfunction, but to find ways to treat it. And when Barbara proves beyond Virginia's ability to treat — and when Bill points out that her dream of becoming a trained psychologist will take her years to fulfill — Ginny comes up with the unorthodox (and guaranteed to blow up in her face) plan to impersonate Barbara while meeting with a local shrink...

Endeavour Sway ITV
A policeman’s lot is not a happy one — especially in Oxford where unsuspecting housewives are dropping like flies at the hands of a sinister strangler. The weapon of choice: a French stocking that can only be bought at Burridges, a high street department store.
As Sway began, Endeavour and company were called to investigate the killer’s third crime in three weeks. All of the women were married, but none of them were wearing rings — a detail that only Endeavour noticed. As it turned out, at least two of the women had been involved in sordid affairs with a mystery man in the weeks leading up to their murders. If Morse could identify Oxford’s answer to Don Juan, they’d have their killer.
The investigation at Burridges soon spawned several interesting subplots. Foremost among them, an awkward encounter involving Thursday and a long-forgotten love interest from World War II.
