With X-Men '97 in full swing on Disney+ and Deadpool & Wolverine fast approaching, will Marvel Studios soon pull back the curtain on WandaVision follow-up, Agatha?
That's the prevailing theory because the profile picture on WandaVision's social media accounts has just been updated with a splash of familiar purple. It doesn't give us much to go on, though we'd say there has to be some significance to this when Agatha Harkness remains trapped in Westview thanks to the Scarlet Witch!
We'd caution against getting too excited about an imminent reveal because it's previously been reported that Agatha is aiming for a September launch. Disney+ has also developed a frustrating habit of promising its MCU offerings surprisingly close to their respective premieres.
Despite it feeling like we've been waiting a long time for the series, things appear to be going well for a spin-off which has previously been dubbed "Agnes of Westview,...

Christmas movies are one of the most beloved genres in cinema history with every film fan having their own select favorite that they watch and rewatch every year. However, while the genre is treasured, the Oscars haven’t rewarded it as much as you might think or hope. There are several movies, however, that have found their way into Oscars lineups. We’ve detailed just five of those Christmas movies that have managed Oscar nominations or wins.
By the way, “The Apartment” is not included on this list (but might be in a future article). The Billy Wilder movie won five Academy Awards including Best Picture (1961) but there seems to be debate around whether it actually qualifies as a Christmas movie or not. It’s set during the holiday period, but some feel that isn’t enough for it to be an out-and-out Christmas movie. Perhaps that’s one for our forums.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an ever-expanding world of wonder and super-heroics. It’s also become a revolving door where, as the MCU ages, it has become a revolving door for characters old and new. At Morgan Stanley’s 2023 Technology Media and Telecom Conference on Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger said Marvel is constantly re-evaluating the repeated use of certain characters and who will be the franchise’s new faces overall. Iger says the next five years are crucial to the Marvel formula. Decisions about who gets a sequel and which legacy characters will return for another adventure are forever in flux. Instead of relying on old tricks, Marvel is looking forward and is eager to bring young and exciting characters into the limelight.
“Marvel — there were 7,000 characters, there are a lot more stories to tell,” Iger said. “What we have to look at at Marvel is not necessarily the volume of Marvel storytelling,...

Marvel fans think they know who Heartstopper star Joe Locke will play in the WandaVision spin-off.
On Tuesday (1 November), it was announced that Locke will join Kathryn Hahn in the forthcoming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos for Disney Plus.
Locke rose to fame earlier this year owing to his lead role in the Netflix LGBTQ+ show Heartstopper, in which he played shy high-schooler Charlie Spring.
Hahn – who received rave reviews from fans and critics for her role opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany – will return as Agatha Harkness in the spin-off series.
While details surrounding Locke’s casting are being kept under wraps, fans are already speculating which Marvel character he will be playing – and they already have a good idea.

The Cinema Audio Society Awards gave a boost to the Oscar hopes of “Sound of Metal” on Saturday. This film about a rock musician going deaf took top honors at these precursor prizes that honor sound mixing over three of its Oscar rivals for Best Sound — “Greyhound,” “Mank” and “News of the World” — as well as “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” The fifth Oscar nominee, “Soul,” won the animation prize from the Cas while “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” took the documentary trophy
The upcoming Oscars mark the introduction of the Best Sound category, which combines Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. The Cas honors the latter while the Motion Picture Sound Editors salute achievements in the former. On April 16, the Mpse awarded its top prize to “Greyhound.”
Historically, about two-thirds of the Cas nominees went on to contend for Best Sound Mixing at the Academy Awards.

Darius Marder’s experimental “Sound of Metal” — the Oscar favorite for Best Sound — was surprisingly snubbed at the 68th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards for sound editing on Friday, but it rebounded on Saturday to take sound mixing honors at the 57th annual Cas Awards. The sound editors presented a three-way split between Aaron Sorkin’s multi-layered courtroom drama, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (dialogue/Adr), “Greyhound,” the World War II battleship action/adventure (effects/foley), which is an Oscar sound nominee, and Christopher Nolan’s time-inverted “Tenet” (underscore). Pixar’s “Soul,” which took the Golden Reel for animation, is also in the Oscar hunt for sound. However, the other two Oscar nominees — “Mank” and “News of the World” — were completely shut out.

Updated with full list of winners: Tonight at the 57th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards, Amazon Studios drama Sound of Metal and Disney/Pixar’s Soul won out in top categories.
Sound of Metal was named Best Motion Picture – Live Action, besting Mank (Netflix), Greyhound (Apple TV+), News of the World (Universal Pictures) and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Netflix), while Soul won out on the Animated Motion Picture category,
Tonight’s wins give each of these films added momentum in the Oscars’ new category of Best Sound, which combines sound mixing and sound editing for the first time. At the same time, though, victories here aren’t necessarily predictive. Last year, Ford v Ferrari won the Cas Live Action award but lost out at the Oscars in the Sound Mixing category to 1917; Ford v Ferrari...

The sound mixing team from “Sound of Metal” on Saturday won the top prize at the Cinema Audio Society’s annual Cas Awards for outstanding achievement in sound mixing.
In the animated feature category, Pixar’s “Soul” added another win to its shelf. The film which follows Joe as he ventures into the Great Before also won the Mpse Golden Reel Award for outstanding achievement in sound editing – feature animation is nominated in the newly combined sound category at the Academy Awards.
Additional Cas winners included “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” Disney’s “The Mandalorian” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
During the virtual event, Sound Mixer William B. Kaplan, Cas was honored with the Cinema Audio Society’s highest accolade, the Cas Career Achievement Award. “Sound of Metal” has won the award for sound mixing in a live-action motion picture at the 57th annual Cas Awards, which were presented by the Cinema Audio Society in a virtual ceremony on Saturday.
The film beat three other Oscar nominees in the Best Sound category, “Greyhound,” “Mank” and “News of the World,” along with “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
The Cas Awards winner has gone on to win the Oscar in the Best Sound Mixing category for the last three years in a row, and five times in the last decade. But this year the Oscars combined Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into a single Best Sound category, so the Cas’ effectiveness at predicting the Oscars has yet to be determined.
On Friday, “Greyhound” won the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Award in the category that in the past most closely corresponded to the Oscars sound-editing award.

There’s an extraordinary level of craftsmanship among this year’s nominees for the Cinema Audio Society Awards, which recognizes outstanding accomplishments in sound mixing, a collaborative discipline that requires sound editors, re-recording mixers, Foley and Adr artistry to work together to create a finished product.
Seven categories will be recognized this year across from live action features to specials and post-production, and the nominees include awards season stalwarts such as “Mank,” “News of the World,” “Soul” and “News of the World,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “Sound of Metal” and “Onward.”
As previously announced, George Clooney will receive the Cas filmmaker award and production sound mixer William B. Kaplan will be the Cas career achievement honoree.

The Oscar frontrunner for Best Sound, “Sound of Metal,” reaped a bid for Best Sound Mixing at the the Cinema Audio Society Awards on March 2 as as did two of the other predicted Oscar nominees: “Mank” and “News of the World.” Also in contention are “Greyhound” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

“Greyhound,” “Mank,” “News of the World,” “Sound of Metal” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” have been nominated by the Cinema Audio Society for the 57th annual Cas Awards for Outstanding Sound Mixing, the Cas announced on Tuesday.
Nominees in the animated-feature category were “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon,” “Onward,” “Soul,” “The Croods: A New Age” and “Trolls World Tour,” while documentary nominations went to “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet,” “My Octopus Teacher,” “The Social Dilemma” and two music docs, “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “Zappa.”
While Cas nominations have traditionally been a good barometer of which films will be nominated for Oscars in the Best Sound Mixing category, the Academy last year combined its two sound categories, mixing and editing, into a single Best Sound category.

The live-action feature nominees for the 57th annual Cas Awards for sound mixing (presented virtually on April 17) include “Greyhound,” “Mank,” “News of the World,” “Sound of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” Darius Marder’s innovative “Sound of Metal,” the frontrunner, also split the Motion Picture Sound Editors nominations with Paul Greengrass’ “News of the World,” with three nods.
Not making the cut, though, was Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” the time inversion spy thriller, which was roundly criticized for mixing its dialogue way too low. Also overlooked was George Clooney’s sci-fi drama, “The Midnight Sky,” though the director will be honored as Cas Filmmaker.

'Cast Away' Movie with Tom Hanks stranded on a deserted island 'Cast Away' Movie review: Tom Hanks excellent in high-concept Hollywood flick disguised as existential adventure drama Most people will see Robert Zemeckis' Cast Away as a celebration of the Triumph of the Human Spirit. A minority, myself included, will prefer the more mundane explanation that the film merely depicts a man following his survival instincts, which propel him – like any other animal, from cockroaches to crocodiles – to fight to remain alive almost against his will. Whichever way one chooses to view the survival of Tom Hanks' Federal Express engineer Chuck Noland (No-land, get it?) after being stranded for years on a deserted island (mostly shot in Monuriki, Fiji), Cast Away is little more than an elaborate, populist star vehicle disguised as an existential The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe-esque drama. A volleyball named Wilson The story of a...

Normally, by mid-November, we have a pretty good idea of many of the likely nominees in most of the crafts categories. But in this year's race for Best Sound Mixing, I see things as extremely open — there's not a single film that strikes me as assured of a spot and more than a dozen appear to have very good chances. That makes for an exciting race. This category awards the overall mix of dialogue, music, effects and "everything else" into a film's soundtrack. This is different than sound editing, which recognizes the creation and editing of artificial sound effects. Being a leading Best Picture contender can certainly help a film's chances in mixing (seen in "The Social Network," "The King's Speech" and "Moneyball" in recent years), as can being a war film, a musical or a respected (or even not-so-respected) blockbuster. There are also certain mixers who score very regularly indeed.

I'm not going to pretend I have some over-arching knowledge or insight when it comes to these two categories, but history and the nature of some of these films suggest to me we have a few films to consider front-runners and several films to consider as possibilities. To begin, Robert Zemeckis' Flight may not depend on an in-your-face sound mix throughout the duration of the film, but when it's required the team that includes William B. Kaplan (Sound Mixer) and Randy Thom (Re-Recording Mixer and Sound Designer), Dennis Leonard (Re-Recording Mixer and Sound Editor) and Dennis Sands (Re-Recording Mixer) truly deliver. Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty seems like another title to pay close attention to as she has brought back the same duo that won both sound Oscars for The Hurt Locker in Paul N.J. Ottosson (Sound Designer, Re-Recording Mixer and Supervising Sound Editor) and Ray Beckett (Production...

Noomi Rapace has come triumphant over Natalie Portman at 2010 Satellite Awards. The 30-year-old didn't get nominated at 2011 Golden Globes and SAG Awards like the "Black Swan" beauty, but managed to walk away with the Best Drama Actress in a Motion Picture title from the awards presented by the International Press Academy on Sunday, December 19.
The Swedish actress, who stars opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes 2", won the awards thanks to her role as Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Aside from Natalie, she also beat two other Golden Globes and SAG Awards contenders, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lawrence.
While Noomi took home Best Actress for Drama, "Love and Other Drugs" beauty Anne Hathaway nailed the Comedy or Musical category. The male counterparts saw "The King's Speech" star Colin Firth grabbing Best Drama Actor and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" lead Michael Cera securing Best Comedy or Musical Actor.

This evening the International Press Academy announced the winners of the 15th Satellite Awards and The Social Network took home six wins including Best Picture (Drama), Director (David Fincher) and Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin). Additionally, Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World took home the award for Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) and star Michael Cera won for Best Actor (Comedy or Musical), which makes for two awards giving the awards circuit a bit of a different flavor.
Anne Hathaway taking Best Actress in Comedy/Musical is a bit of a surprise over the ladies of The Kids are All Right and Noomi Rapace besting Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicole Kidman in the Drama category is also a shift from the norm. It's almost as if they couldn't decide on any of the better performances and settled with the lesser ones. Rapace's performance, especially, is by no means Best Actress material.
