It's been five years since the release of "Scream 4" (on April 15, 2011), but like the Ghostface killer, the franchise refuses to die.
Since the first film's release nearly 20 years ago (on December 20, 1996), there have been four movies that have grossed $604 million worldwide, as well as a spinoff series on MTV whose second season begins May 31. "Scream" not only became the most lucrative slasher-film series ever, but it also revitalized the teen horror genre. Still, as inescapable and relentless as the "Scream" franchise has been, there are still a lot of secrets behind that mask. Here are 15 terrifying tidbits of trivia.
1. "Scream" was originally a screenplay by Kevin Williamson called "Scary Movie," inspired in part by the real-life killings of five college students in Gainesville, Florida in 1990. But Dimension studio chief Bob Weinstein didn't think the title reflected Williamson's blend of horror and comedy.

I’ve said this before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again, but it is something that always bears repeating- Wes Craven was a filmmaker that was ahead of his time. Throughout most of his career, the maven director was always about two steps ahead of everyone else- whether it was where the genre happened to be at during that given time, the types of films that Hollywood was making, or sometimes, even ahead of the fans themselves.
And while he continued to push the boundaries of horror time and time again from the 1970’s through the early 1990’s, perhaps the biggest indication of Craven’s genius as a forward-thinking storyteller has to be the Scream quadrilogy which not only redefined slasher movies but also redefined his career as well. Very few directors get a chance to directly affect the genre as a whole but Craven did so...

A quick review of tonight's "Enlisted" coming up just as soon as I convince an old Jewish couple I'm their grandson Jeffrey... Oh, Randy Hill. I'll miss you most of all. More than the previous two Sunday episodes, "Army Men" is the one where the show's cancellation really stings, because it sets up the possibility of a great character arc that, barring a miraculous pick-up somewhere else, we'll never get to see. I'm agnostic on sitcom love triangles, but the idea of Randy and Pete competing for the love of Jill, all while she's oblivious to it and doing things like blowing snot on the ground is gold, and the sort of thing I'd have enjoyed watching Biegel, Royce and company playing out at length. Instead, all we get is the main plot of this episode, which is a whole lot of fun in the flashbacks to Pete and Randy...

The Friday episode of Fox’s Enlisted, “Homecoming,” looks like it will hit the comedy sweet spot once again. After Derrick (Chris Lowell) promises a woman he likes that he’ll get her son’s soldier father back Stateside, he has to convince Cody (Keith David) to do it. Luckily, Randy (Parker Young) has vision.
Meanwhile, Pete (Geoff Stults) and Jill (Angelique Cabral) will find themselves having to work together again when it’s game time — and by that, we mean time to play flat football against the Marines.
Watch an exclusive clip below.

Recently I discovered two very awesome things about Boston, Ma-based metalcore unit Ice Nine Kills: first, they're all big-time horror movie fans; and second, their obsession with fearsome flicks manifests itself in a big way while the band is traveling between live gigs – and I'm not just talking about horror DVD marathons on the bus, either. While on the road, the band decided to seek out and document some of their favorite horror movie locations and hang out with the creators and stars of those films, preserving those memories in photographs for a horror-themed travel journal. The band graciously offered to share several of those photos with us, which you can only see right here. So that's enough setup... let's witness some high points in horror history, recorded for posterity by Spencer, Justin and Conor of Ice Nine Kills! In my life, the only military show I’ve ever been a dedicated fan of was HBO’s miniseries Generation Kill, which I started watching simply for the Alexander Skarsgard of it all. In general, I’m not one for shows about men in the armed forces … until now.

Enlisted is something of a throwback comedy that would have fit rather well in a lineup from the mid-80s. That shouldn’t be surprising considering recent trends, but this one also tries to blend elements of more recent, irreverent comedies, and while it has some solid moments, the combination makes it hard to predict how well it will be received.
Geoff Stults, fresh out of two sit-coms that should have been around longer, plays Pete Hill, a soldier who had a stellar career ahead of him, until he punched a superior. He now finds himself in Florida leading a Rear Detachment unit. Rear D is, according to the show, where those who can’t cut it as real soldiers end up, and where Pete’s two brothers spend their time in the military. Of course, Enlisted isn’t going to leave it at that, and will ultimately play up the importance of Rear D,...

Since the very beginning of cinema, the western genre has provided us with generations of gorgeous backdrops, masculine cowboys and rugged horses. Some of the films we have at our disposal are necessary viewing for anyone wanting to explore history on film; subjects that often included racism, nationalism, loyalty, character, and manhood.
Because the Western has shaped our film landscape as it were, Kevin and I thought we would each share our 6 favourite films in the genre. Enjoy.
Graham’s Picks
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
Butch Cassidy: Move in slowly, check out everything. The thing to remember…
Sundance Kid: Don’t tell me how to rob a bank. I know how to rob a bank.

No word yet on how entertainment coverage will be affected. But The New York Times said today it will offer 30 voluntary buyouts to non-union newsroom managers. It may also lay off journalists if not enough accept the severance package. The reason cited is the volatile advertising climate. Editor Jill Abramson wrote to staff that the size of the newsroom staff must be reduced. There were previous buyouts at the paper in 2008 and 2011. The Nyt recently negotiated with its unionized staff. Here’s what Nyt publisher Arthur ‘Pinch’ Sulzberger wrote to staff: Dear Colleagues, As we all know, these are financially challenging times. While our digital subscription plan has been successful, the advertising climate remains volatile and we don’t see this changing in the near future. Given this, I have asked Scott, Jill and Andy to identify significant cost savings – including buyouts – throughout The New York Times Media Group. While...

Retired porn star Jill Kelly has General David Petraeus to thank for an exciting new gig. The fact that she has been confused with Jill Kelley, the woman who brought the former CIA Director's sex scandal to light after receiving threatening e-mails from his mistress Paula Broadwell, has caused porn production company Vivid Entertainment to be very interested in the former "Wmb: Weapons of Masturbation" star.
TMZ reports that Kelly has been asked to host a military-themed porn marathon next January on VividTV because of the fact her name is similar to Kelley's. The marathon will reportedly feature 10 films from Vivid's library.
"I know that you support our troops and so do we -- and what better way to show that support than to join us as a VividTV Host!" Vivid founder Steven Hirsch wrote to Kelly in a letter obtained by TMZ.

Jeremy Renner isn't what you would call the "prototypical 'SNL' host," but, bless his heart, he tried his best. As he admitted in his monologue, he's not known for comedy (but, hey, neither was Jon Hamm when he first hosted) and, as far as I can tell, Renner really isn't promoting anything at the moment. ("Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," a movie that actually exists, doesn't come out until January.) Unfortunately, this show was just off from the start. An almost shockingly boring cold open (with perhaps the tamest "Live from New York ..." in the show's history) followed by a monologue with technical glitches -- resulting in Renner even audibly admitting that it's not a good way to start a show -- set a tone that never fully recovered. In other words: today's Scorecard is forlorn ...

Julia Davis is famous for creating some of the most uncomfortably bleak comedies of recent times. Now the star of Nighty Night is turning her dark powers to period drama in her new series Hunderby
The writer and performer Julia Davis is too good-natured to show it much, but she's plainly exasperated by descriptions of her work as "bleak" or "dark". They make it sound as if she's deliberately trying to be edgy, and this doesn't chime with her sense of herself. She enjoys watching old episodes of Friends, she insists; she's partial to 1980s movies and upbeat self-help books, and when she writes, she just writes what comes naturally. "I would never say, ooh, let's do something really dark," she says. Yet she is responsible for what are, without doubt, some of the most unsettling characters in contemporary comedy: smiling suburban sociopaths; meddlesome cold-eyed narcissists; horrifyingly mistreated spouses whose...

By the middle of the 1990s, the horror film had seemingly died for good. Just like Dracula slowly rotting away to a skeleton, the horror genre had slowly ebbed away for the past decade or so. Hammer Horror classics from the 1960s and 1970s had given way to popular horror franchises in the 1980s such as Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street, but even by the mid-1990s, these had seemingly vanished into the ether. However, acclaimed director Wes Craven along with Kevin Williamson were to breathe new life into the rotting genre.

Chord Overstreet and Emma Roberts may be giving their romance another shot. After going their separate ways earlier this year, the Sam Evans of popular musical series "Glee" and the Grace Smart of "Valentine's Day" were said to have had a romantic, yet fun bowling date at Pinz in Studio City, California on Saturday, April 8.

The niece of actress Julia Roberts "even took photos of Chord with a female fan," so the eyewitness told Radar Online, adding that the 21-year-old beauty and the 23-year-old hunk "cheered each other on as they hit the pins."

In honor on the series finale of "Chuck" (Fri., Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. Est), we asked fans to submit questions for co-creator and executive producer Chris Fedak, and they, of course, came through.
On Twitter and in the comment area of our call for questions, "Chuck" fans had dozens of great queries; so many and so great, in fact, it was very hard to narrow the roster down to manageable size. So we didn't narrow all that much and let Fedak decide what to answer. Lucky for "Chuck" fans, he was game enough to answer more than 30 fan questions.
Below, find out why Jill didn't come back, the one song that got away, where Jeff and Lester could be a few years from now and much more!

Two cinematic blasts from Hollywood’s not-too-distant Cold War-inspired past are re-packaged together as a post-apocalyptic tag team on this two-for-one offering, which was made available by the folks at Image Entertainment just a few weeks ago (release date December 13, 2011). Each feature on this single-sided disc comes with its own title screen, scene selections, and a theatrical trailer. The DVD itself plays a few other vintage trailers (C.H.U.D., anyone?) before the main film selection menu. Otherwise, it’s all a pretty bare bones affair. But with mega-blockbusters like these,...

Cardiff, Wales — Chart-toppers, soul singers and three generations of Michael Jackson's family – including his children – celebrated the King of Pop at an energetic tribute concert Saturday, urging fans to focus on the late star's music rather than his death.
The run-up to the "Michael Forever" concert was overshadowed by the Los Angeles manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor, and marred by fan criticism, sluggish ticket sales and dissension within the Jackson family. But once the four-hour show started, Jackson's musical genius, and the warm tributes of friends and family, carried the night.
"We're very happy to be here on this special night to honor our father," said Jackson's 13-year-old daughter Paris, who made a brief onstage appearance alongside brothers Prince, 14, and 9-year-old Michael Joseph Jr., known as Blanket.
The children wore outfits evoking their father's famous styles – Paris most strikingly, in a red and black "Thriller"-style jacket. Blanket stood stoic and shy,...

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the first episode of Home Improvement on ABC. That's right, it's been two decades since we first saw Tool Time with power-tooler Tim Taylor (Tim Allen), Al Borland (Richard Karn), and Lisa (Pamela Anderson) -- not to mention Tim's long-suffering family; spouse Jill (Patricia Richardson) and three children Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran Noah Smith).
EW recently reunited the cast for their upcoming reunion issue that comes out on October 8th. Richardson let the cat out of the bag via Twitter so the magazine published a preview photo. Sadly, the Taylors' over-the-fence neighbor, Wilson (Earl Hindman), wasn't present. He passed away in 2003.
The magazine notes that this was the first time that the surviving cast has been together since Thomas left the show in 1998. It's hard to believe that he just...

There was one very attractive reason I watched Home Improvement every week as a child. Say it with me: Jonathan Taylor Thomas. The Justin Bieber of the ’90s, Jtt was talented, well-coiffed, and completely non-threatening, even though parents would be petrified knowing what pre-teens daydreamed about the young actor. When Home Improvement hit its stride in the mid-’90s, I hit the age in which boys were suddenly attractive, but still verboten enough to make any crush extremely embarrassing. So I used to admire Jtt secretly. When no one was looking, I’d pick up the teen magazine at our...

Emma Roberts has revealed her secret trick to stay out of the candid camera. The depicter of Jill Roberts in the horror film "Scream 4" admitted that she always keeps a low profile to dodge the paparazzi's navigation of her existence.
"Lay low if you can," the 20-year-old actress said about how to dodge the media squad's cameras. "It's easier in New York. L.A. is a little more difficult to navigate," she told NY Daily News during the Cinema Society's premiere of her movie "The Art of Getting By" at the Landmark Sunshine Cinemas earlier this week.
The ex-girlfriend of English actor Alex Pettyfer did her trick during the premiere's after-party at Thompson Les. A source said that the "Twelve" actress just hung out "until the bitter end." Along with her pals and co-stars, the starlet kept it classy, holding court at one of the restaurant's table before ending...

"Scream 4" didn't slay the box office like many onlookers thought it would, but that hasn't stopped some of the people involved with the series from thinking about more sequels. Wes Craven has already told us that he has plans for a new "Scream" trilogy, and longtime series producer Harvey Weinstein has confidence in the franchise's future as well.
But what about the stars? We sat down with the cast of "The Art of Getting By" last night in Los Angeles as part of MTV Sneak Peek Week, and made sure to ask "Scream" star Emma Roberts for her take on a possible fifth installment. We got some good stuff, but needless to say — some Major Spoilers lie ahead.
Okay, still with us? Good, because we're officially in the spoiler zone. If you've seen "Scream 4" (or if you don't care about getting spoiled) then you already know that Roberts,...

The Scream films work from a brilliant cheat that allows its lazy screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, to appear clever, when in fact he has no actual new ideas. He can recycle and rehash, and he can follow the bouncing ball as it travels down its well-worn groove, but as long as he announces his intentions before he follows through on them, the world (and audiences) will celebrate his ingenuity. It's like Babe Ruth standing at the plate and announcing to the crowd that he's about to strike out, and being roundly applauded when he follows through on the promise.
Having gutted the conventions of both the slasher films and the slasher sequels in the earlier Scream films, Kevin Williamson is left only to tackle the trends that have come along since the last Scream movie over a decade ago, namely torture porn and remakes. In the film's best scene (actually, a...

And the killer is … yeah, right.
“Scream 4” is meta. That is, it is absolutely, characteristically, perfectly, fan-fulfillingly self-referential. Bringing back the original key cast members and combining them with teens who have already entered the pop-culture zeitgeist is a veritable lightning bolt, sure to attract fan boys and desirable viewing demographics.
The “Scream” franchise began with an overt awareness of the rules of the genre, and this installment of the franchise hypes the self-realization to hellish levels, accommodating one-liners to engage fans who climbed on board the franchise at its first stop as well as newbies coming to the scene late.

Wes Craven really outdid himself with this one! For all of you that have doubted Mr. Craven in the past couple of years (I will refrain from calling you names for “hatin”!), let it be known… Wes Craven still has it!
Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has returned to her hometown of Westboro to promote her new self help book, but trouble rears its ugly head during her first public appearance. See, her stop happens to be around the anniversary of the Woodsboro Massacre, and the anniversaries of the multiple murders committed by the many faces behind the Ghostface mask. Of course, the teens of the town, who aren’t old enough to remember all of the trauma and fear choose to embrace their murky heritage by decorating the town in Ghostface garb and props, and hosting a Stab-a-thon, where they showcase all 7 of the Stab movies back to back. Scre4m
Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette
Directed by Wes Craven
Rated R
Before I begin, I'd like to mention that this is a mostly spoiler free review for Scre4m. But that's likely not why you're here; I'm sure the spoilers are out on the web somewhere. And who cares about them, anyways? Aside from three people, the entire cast is brand new. Wes Craven is basically starting from scratch, featuring a whole new round of teenagers to be hacked up for our pleasure.
The movie opens with two co-eds watching a horror movie. They're taunted by Ghostface and killed, only for it to be the opener for Stab 6, the series of movies based on the books by Gale Weathers-Riley (Courtney Cox) about Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). We then cut to two more co-eds talking about said Stab 6 opening, where one kills the other, which is the opening for...

Scream 4
Directed by: Wes Craven
Cast: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere
Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: April 15, 2011
Plot: After years of solitude Sidney Prescott returns to Woodsboro, where she, as well as a new generation of victims, are stalked by the ruthless Ghostface Killer.
Who’S It For? This one is for slasher fans, obviously. Fans of the original franchise might enjoy the return of some of the characters, but Scream 4 is definitely Craven’s attempt to bring in a new audience. Die-hards and new fans of horror will both get something out of this movie, even if it is for different reasons.
Expectations: A mix of trepidation and excitement. Craven’s latest works have been less than inspiring (My Soul to Take still gives me nightmares, just not for the reasons Craven probably intended) but at the same time,...

Not many franchise reboots have the good luck to be made by the same director, writer, and stars of the original- but then, not many horror franchises are as witty, successful and frightening as Scream. Though most of the good horror reboots have just taken the theme of the original and run in a different direction (Dawn of the Dead, The Crazies) that wouldn’t fit with the Scream style, now would it? The Scream series is all about self-parody, commentary, and being self-aware about its existence as a film. Luckily, Scream 4, despite reiterating the themes and arc of the original trilogy, succeeds in being a funny, scary, and well-delivered horror film.
In Scream 4, director Wes Craven, writer Kevin Williamson, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) return to Woodsboro, the site of the horrible mass murders of Scream, fifteen years after the fact.

I spoke with Emma Roberts last week regarding her upcoming film "Scream 4." Check out my interview with the young actress as we talked about:
*** Why she joined the new Scream film
*** Working with the original crew and cast
*** Her character, Jill Roberts
*** The Scream influence
*** What's her favorite horror movie?
Here's more "Scream 4" info from Yahoo:
Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey and Gale, who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill and her Aunt Kate. Unfortunately Sidney's appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.
Genres: Suspense/Horror and Sequel
Running Time: 1 hr. 43 min.
Release Date: April 15th, 2011 (wide)
MPAA Rating: R for strong bloody violence, language and some teen drinking.

Tonight was a good night; it should have been Tuesday night. The screening that is, only the projector at the venue selfishly decided to catch fire, I mean literally combust in the projector room – something I’ve never seen before but I have on good authority happened once also in 1995, a year before the original Scream hit cinemas.
Yes tonight was the national press screening of Scream 4 (or SCRE4M, I still can’t make up my mind which). Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Sheriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) return to Woodsboro – the most dangerous place to live next to Midsommer or Albert Square – for the first time in over ten years. Was it worth the wait?

Emma Roberts doesn't mind not having curvy figure. In fact, the actress who will be seen as Jill Roberts in "Scream 4" has opened up in the May issue of Seventeen magazine that she has accepted the fact that she won't be a "voluptuous girl".
"Sexy when I was younger always meant boobs, and I've never had boobs in my life, so I always felt that sexy was out of the question for me," admits the niece of Hollywood star Julia Roberts. "I used to really want to be that kind of voluptuous girl, and I've just kind of embraced that I'm not."
Speaking of turning 20, Emma admits she just wants to be young and has fun. The young actress adds she used to fell "like I was always in a rush to get somewhere, when I had no idea where that was." She continues, "Now I just feel content,...

This Friday, relatively novice actor, Nico Tortorella appears in the hotly anticipated 'Scream 4' from director Wes Craven. In the film, he plays Trevor Sheldon, the ex-boyfriend of Emma Roberts' character, Jill Roberts. It sounds as though Sheldon is a person under scrutiny of being the killer. Tortorella might be going from one mystery/thriller to another. The actor is in negotiations to join 'Odd Thomas,' a film based on the Dean Koontz novel. Anton Yelchin stars in the film as Thomas, a short-order cook who is able to communicate with the dead. Thomas' girlfriend, Stormy (Addison Timlin) and the local police chief (Willem Dafoe) are the only ones privy to his secret. Tortorella would be playing a villain in the film, a police officer and cultist who is bent on the destruction of the town in which the film is set. All of this...

Scream 4 hits theaters on April 15, 2011 and has been shown six times previous to that upcoming opening. Each of the six times it has been screened for the media, those lucky press have had to sign non-disclosures, cell phones have been confiscated for the duration of the screening and various other things have been done to make sure the ending and twists and turns of the fourth sequel will not be spoiled online.

Emma Roberts has been spotted shopping for underwear. The actress playing Neve Campbell's cousin in upcoming thriller "Scream 4" was browsing around the Planet Blue store in Beverly Hills, California recently, and was photographed lifting up a pair of white panties and checking it out.
The 20-year-old actress wore a white T-shirt and a denim short during the outing, and this isn't the first time in recent week she donned a pair of short shorts. The "4.3.2.1" actress sported another denim shorts and paired it with black thigh-highs and leopard-print platforms when going out last Saturday afternoon, April 2.
