Okay, nobody panic, but we think we might be onto something… we think comedian Jack Dee might be in Taskmaster series 17. And it’s about flippin’ time.
You see, quite predictably, Alex Horne has been asked many times over the years who his dream Taskmaster contestant is – and he’s been blissfully, almost eerily, consistent.
It’s Jack Dee. Yep, again, Jack Dee. Dream Taskmaster contestant is definitely Jack Dee. He really couldn’t make it any clearer: he wants Jack Dee on the show.
Even as recently as this March, when The Express asked him, he said:
“Jack Dee, and I say this anytime anyone asks me this question. I think it’s the only way to persuade him to do it. So, Jack Dee, if you’re listening, please do the show.”
And then, yesterday, Taskmaster released a video Q&a with Alex Horne on YouTube:

British TV presenter Holly Willoughby will stay off screen for the rest of the month, after a plot to kidnap and murder her was foiled a few days ago.
The presenter of ITV’s This Morning was informed on Wednesday evening by police of an alleged conspiracy to abduct her. She did not appear on Thursday morning’s show (she doesn’t work Fridays) and will now stay off air for several weeks, including a scheduled holiday.
Shopping centre security guard Gavin Plumb appeared in court Friday, charged with offences that included soliciting to commit murder, incitement to commit kidnap, and recruiting a “hitman” from overseas.
Willoughby will also miss this evening’s annual Pride of Britain Awards, where she has been a longtime regular attendee, and is reported to be with her family under the guard of both police and a security team employed by ITV.

You couldn’t make something like Sm:tv Live these days. For starters, Saturday morning kids’ TV is barely a thing any more, cancelled entirely on the soon-to-be-nixed Citv channel, while over on the BBC, it’s relegated to the decidedly more wholesome Saturday Mash-Up Live on Cbbc.
Perhaps this is because – deep down – everyone knows nothing will ever beat Ant & Dec and Cat Deeley’s iconic weekly three hours of Saturday morning mayhem that was Sm:tv Live.
Dec described Sm:tv Live’s goal from the outset when it launched in 1998 was to counteract the “cosier… nice auntie or uncle” vibe of Live & Kicking, the BBC’s Saturday morning show, by being more like their viewers’ “mischievous older brothers and sisters”.
This required them taking some pretty massive risks, like not being quite so nice to the children watching, and pushing the humour to far more grown-up places. It’s highly...

Chris Carter has announced there will be a reboot ofThe X-Files – but without its lead stars.
Seven years after the revival series aired on Fox, the series is returning. This is unlikely to be a surprise for fans, considering the show’s impressive viewing ratings.
Speaking toThe Hollywood Reporter at the time, Carter said: “There’s an appetite for more in the future – it’s just a matter of figuring out how to get it done.”
It turns out Carter’s way of getting this particular reboot off the ground is to hand the reins over to somebody else entirely – namely Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
On Monday (27 March), speaking on podcast On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko, Carter said: “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast.

The Scottish broadcaster has hosted her own weekday morning programme on ITV since the early Nineties.
Lorraine, as it has been known since 2010, sees Kelly discussing the main stories from the morning’s newspapers, as well as segments for fashion, health and entertainment.

Back then, she said, trans identity wasn’t discussed as “we were non-people, we were toxic people, we were other”.

A comment Fred Sirieix made about Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip has resurfaced in the wake of his co-star’s decision to quit.
On Sunday (19 March), Gino D’Acampo revealed he would no longer be a part of the series due to “problems” behind-the-scenes.
In a video shared with his social media followers, the celebrity chef said that “complications” with contracts had led to his decision, and said he would rather quit than damage his friendship with both Sirieix and Gordon Ramsay.
Just 10 days ago, during a chat with Lorraine Kelly on the ITV morning show Lorraine, Sirieix addressed these complications, stating: “We are talking about dates for the next one. It is difficult to juggle all of our diaries.”
He told MailOnline the previous week, while promoting his latest series, Fred’s Last Resort: “It is a bit difficult to juggle all our diaries, but we are getting there.

According to Meghan, Kate and William are not “huggers” like she is. Former royal butler Paul Burrell backs up what Meghan said, claiming the royals “don’t hug.” Here’s what he had to say about the royal family and how they interact.

Shania Twain’s throat surgery scar is a reminder of how far she’s come with her recovery.
The Canadian hitmaker chats to Graham Norton on the latest episode of his talk show, with her saying of undergoing open-throat surgery in 2018: “The operation was very invasive, and I’ve got a big scar that I am proud of.
“I’m very happy to have a scar rather than no voice. The surgery was a miracle, and I am so grateful. Going back into a studio after the operation was a discovery and I was re-learning voice. I can get very loud and now I can swear really loudly!”

She recalled of having to have open-throat surgery, “It was quite depressing, devastating to imagine that I would never sing again.

On Sunday night, Madonna appeared at the Grammy Awards wearing an outsized black tuxedo, her eyebrows bleached platinum blonde and her cheeks plumped and smooth. Everyone lost it. Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter: “Looks like she had a face transplant”; “Madonna received the ‘New Face’ award at the 2023 Grammy Awards!”; “Not the Madonna I remember.” By Monday morning, numerous news outlets had dubbed Madonna “unrecognisable” and were busy ringing up plastic surgeons to ask their opinions on a woman they’d never actually treated.
That the reaction has been entirely critical of the 64-year-old pop icon is unsurprising – Madonna has long been a punching bag for the apparent crimes of not being young, publicly expressing her sexuality and not looking the same as she did half a century ago when she first became famous. This is no exaggeration. In 1993, a Smash Hits magazine spread printed the words “Calm down Grandma!

Lorraine Kelly says she feels that Madonna “doesn’t really look like herself” following her recent appearance at the Grammys.
The singer, 64, made an appearance at the 65th Grammy Awards on Sunday (5 February) night, where she introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras for their rendition of chart-topper “Unholy”.
However, some viewers at home claimed that Madonna looked “unrecognisable” during the segment.
Discussing the singer’s new look on Tuesday (7 February) morning’s episode of Lorraine, Kelly said that it was a “shame” the singer had changed her appearance.
“She doesn’t really look like herself,” said the Scottish presenter.
“I just think it’s a little bit disappointing that she feels like she has to. It’s a shame.”
However, Kelly stressed that Madonna, with her lengthy career, had “paid her dues” and could do “whatever she wants”.
The Independent has contacted Madonna’s representatives for comment.

Viewers are sharing their well wishes after Eamonn Holmes says parts of his post-injury recovery have been “soul destroying”.
In November, the Gb News broadcaster, 63, was forced to take a break from his presenting role after he fractured his shoulder. The injury came not long after he announced that his mother had died.
Holmes had been recovering from a major back operation at home when he fell down the stairs, resulting in the shoulder injury.
He previously told fans that it was a “massive setback” in his recovery from surgery and described it as a “hellish few weeks”.
On Wednesday (28 December), Holmes gave his Twitter followers an update on his health.
“Worked hard at my physio this morning. Very tiring but I’ve now sat on my backside for five hours and feel bad about doing nothing,” he wrote.
“Lack of mobility & depending on others stops me doing really simple things.

John Cleese has been given short shrift on social media after he complained about the BBC not running repeats of Monty Python – after apparently forgetting who owned the licensing rights to the influential comedy show’s library.
While the former six-piece comedy troupe’s popular TV sketch series Monty Python and the Flying Circus originated on BBC in 1969, it was later sold to Netflix in 2019, along with the rest of their movies, collections and specials.
However, this appeared to be news to Cleese, one of Monty Python’s founding members.
“Can anyone (including BBC employees) tell me why the BBC has not shown Monty Python for a couple of decades?” Cleese asked on Twitter, Tuesday 27 December.
Many mocked the controversial comedian for his question, with one responding: “Because they don’t own the license, John Cleese.

David Beckham has responded to Joe Lycett’s money-shredding stunt, more than a month after the comedian first announced it.
On 13 November, Lycett gave Beckham an ultimatum regarding his World Cup ambassador contract with Qatar.
In a social media video, he told the former England footballer that if he did not pull out of his contract, he would shred £10,000 of his own money as well as Beckham’s status as “a gay icon”.
Beckham did not publicly respond, which led to Lycett appearing to destroy the money on a livestream. He later revealed that the money was fake and he had actually donated it to LGBTQ+ charities.
However, on 15 December, Lycett shared a tweet informing followers that Beckham had now responded to the situation.
He wrote: “David Beckham’s team have issued my programme with an exclusive statement, which will be broadcast tonight as part of my Got Your Back special.

Martin Clunes made a subtle dig at Netflix’s Harry and Meghan documentary while appearing on Lorraine.
The actor appeared on the series on Thursday (15 December), and was interviewed by host Lorraine Kelly about the final episode of Doc Martin.
Clunes, who will make his swansong as the grumpy medic on Christmas Day, also shared his experience of travelling around the south pacific for series Martin Clunes: Islands of the Pacific.
The actor said that, while on his travels, there was no phone signal save for intermittent 3G that would let him receive messages every so often.
While filing the show in September, Clunes was shocked to discover via a message from his son that the Queen had died.
He then explained that the leader of tribes from the surrounding islands, who knew of his presence, travelled to him in order to send their condolences.

Netflix’s hotly-anticipated Harry & Meghan doc series has already been causing controversy as UK media outlets pick apart its two trailers and find footage and photos have been used in misleading ways.
Veteran UK royal correspondent Jennie Bond slammed the “extremely sloppy production values” of Harry and Meghan’s Archewell’s documentary this morning and ITV stalwart Lorraine Kelly described the use of certain images and footage as “bizarre.” Archewell is producing with Story Syndicate and Diamond Docs and Liz Garbus is director.
A number of moments in the two trailers have been under the microscope.
Yesterday, an overhead camera shot supposed to illustrate press intrusion was called a “complete travesty” by another veteran royal commentator, Robert Jobson, who pointed out that the shot was taken from an accredited pool at Archbishop Tutu’s residence in Cape Town with only three journalists allowed in. Piers Morgan was one of many hundreds to retweet.

Machine Gun Kelly has expressed doubt over whether the moon landing happened, during his AMAs acceptance speech.
The artist was accepting his award for Favourite Rock Artist when he made the comments.

Julie Hesmondhalgh has reflected on playing a trans character in Coronation Street.
The actor played Hayley Cropper in the ITV soap from 1998 to 2014, sharing the majority of her scenes with Roy Cropper actor David Neilson.
Hayley was the first permanant transgender character to ever appear in a soap and, for the role, Hesmondhalgh, 52, won several awards.
However, in a new interview, the actor has acknowlegded that she “wouldn’t be able to play” the role now.
In recent years, non-trans actors who have played transgender characters, including The Danish Girl star Eddie Redmayne, have said they regret their casting.
But Hesmondhalgh said that she remains “proud” of her work as “the press were absolutely awful about those issues”, and Hayley’s presence in the soap raised awareness among viewers.

One of my greatest accomplishments to date is the fact that aged eleven I was interviewed by Britain’s longest-serving TV breakfast host and queen of morning TV Lorraine Kelly! This was one of the greatest experiences as me and my family were whisked up from our humble home in Cardiff, put on a train (which even then was an extravagant cost) and put into the penthouse suite of the extremely ostentatious Park Plaza Hotel in the heart of central London to talk to Lorraine about the positive effects that Slimming World had had on me. The entire episode was dedicated to debating whether or not young children should be able to join slimming programmes such as Slimming World and I was the ambassador for such groups and the idea of healthy swaps rather than dieting! This was such a surreal experience for my younger self as I was able...

Cardi B has taken offence to Madonna’s claims that she paved the way for artists like the rapper and Miley Cyrus.
The singer initially made the claims on Instagram on Saturday (22 October) in reference to her 1992 book, Sex.
Sex received wide criticism at the time for its controversial content which included photos of the star naked. “In addition to photos of me naked, there were photos of men kissing men, woman kissing woman and me kissing everyone,” Madonna wrote.
“I spent the next few years being interviewed by narrow minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a woman. I was called a whore, a witch, a heretic and the devil,” Madonna wrote of the reaction from the media at the time.

The singer, 64, went viral last week after taking part in the trend, in which a person declares if they are gay depending on whether they successfully make a shot into a goal.
In a video posted on Sunday 9 October, Madonna could be seen holding up a pink pair of lacy knickers, with the caption, “If I miss, I’m gay!” displayed below.
After scrunching the underwear into a ball, the “Hung Up” singer throws it towards a bin and misses the shot.
Carr, who is gay, has made his own challenge in response, changing the caption on his video to: “If I miss, I’m straight.”
The comedian can be seen wearing shaving cream over his eyebrows to mimic Madonna’s bleached ones, and he has also stuffed something down his Mickey Mouse...

Tj Miller has claimed that Ryan Reynolds contacted him after he said he had a “weird” experience with the Deadpool actor during filming.
The former Silicon Valley star, who played Weasal in the first two Deadpool films, said in a recent podcast interview that Reynolds’s alleged on-set behaviour left him with no desire to work with the actor again.
“Would I work with him again? No, I would not work with him again,” Miller said during an appearance on the Adam Corolla Show podcast earlier this month. “But I’ve said that about Michael Bay, and now we’re friends, and I would work with him again. But I think Michael Bay is different.”
Miller explained: “We had a really weird moment on Deadpool where he said, ‘Let’s do one more take.’ And then as the character, he was horrifically mean to me as if I’m Weasel.

Ant and Dec have confirmed the reason they were forced to pull out of hosting duties for the new spinoff of Britain’s Got Talent.
The British duo were originally expected to present the new ITV talent show, Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician.
However, a spokesperson for the series told MailOnline on Wednesday (12 October) that the two were “unable to film” after having become “unwell”.
Instead, they have been replaced by magician Stephen Mulhern.
A representative for the pair later informed The Sun that “Ant and Dec have tested for Covid and unfortunately have both tested positive” and “will be postponing work commitments whilst they recover”.
This also means that Ant McPartlin, 47, and Dec Donnelly, 46, will no longer be in attendance at Britain’s 27th National Television Awards on Thursday (13 October).
Up against Alison Hammond, Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton, the duo are, once again, in the running for the TV presenter award,...

Eric André sues police over ‘dehumanising and traumatic’ alleged racial profiling at Atlanta airport
Eric André is launching a lawsuit against Clayton County police over alleged racial profiling at Atlanta airport.
The Eric Andre Show star has filed the lawsuit alongside comedian Clayton English, following separate instances of alleged racial profiling and coercive search.
The alleged incidents took place at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Georgia.
According to The Associated Press, the police’s “jet bridge interdiction programme” sees officers stop, interrogate and potentially search passengers on the areas connecting planes to terminals.
The plaintiffs’ lawyers claim that the programme operates in violation of constitutional rights, with the stops alleged to “rely on coercion”, with targets “selected disproportionately based on their race”.
Named in the federal lawsuit are Clayton County, the chief of police, four officers and a Da’s office investigator.
André and English are seeking a jury trial, as well as compensatory damages, punitive damages, and legal costs, plus an admission that the...

Shirley Ballas has addressed recent allegations of sexism following remarks made on Strictly Come Dancing.
The Strictly head judge has been criticised by some viewers online after she claimed that she would have chosen to save radio personality, Richie Anderson, over Fleur East in Sunday’s (9 October) dance-off.
As the other judges chose to save singer and presenter East and her professional partner Vito Coppola, Ballas’s opinion was outweighed and Anderson and Giovanni Pernice were eliminated.
Since the programme aired, some viewers have declared her “sexist”, accusing her of seemingly favouring the male stars on the show, and calling for her to be fired as head judge.
After responding on Twitter and in a statement of denial made to The Independent, the professional ballroom and Latin dancer appeared on Loose Women on Wednesday (12 October) to comment further.
Ballas, 62, who denied once again that she holds sexist bias, also noted...

George Rr Martin has cleared up a character absence in House of the Dragon.
The author of the show’s source material, Fire & Blood, has praised the HBO series, the first season of which was overseen by Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik.

Martin wrote about when TV shows used to have 39 and 22 episodes in a seasons, adding: “Cable shrunk that even further. The Sopranos had 13 episodes per season, but just a few years later, Game of Thrones had only 10.”
He stated: “If House of the Dragon had 13 episodes per season, maybe we could have shown all the things we had to ‘time jump’ over… though that would have risked having some viewers complain that the show was too ‘slow,’ that ‘nothing happened.
