Exclusive Update, 2:38 Pm: Two days after Starz made public its lack of faith in any more seasons of American Gods, producers Fremantle on Wednesday said the series based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed novel is still alive and kicking.
“Fremantle is committed to completing the epic journey that is American Gods, one of TV’s most inclusive series with the most amazing fans across the globe,” a spokesperson for the company told Deadline of a possible fourth season or more. “With Neil Gaiman and this fantastic cast and crew, we are exploring all options to continue to tell this magnificent story.”
The statement today backs remarks made Tuesday by EP Gaiman that the Ricky Whittle- and Ian McShane-led series wasn’t going quietly into the premium cable night.
Two early possibilities for more American Gods that may be coming into focus are Netflix and Amazon, we hear.

“American Gods” may be canceled, but “it’s definitely not dead,” according to author Neil Gaiman.
The fantasy drama, which is based on Gaiman’s book of the same name, got the ax after three seasons at Starz late Monday. The following day, a fan asked Gaiman via Twitter if Netflix might pickup the show for Season 4, “Considering you guys are working on #TheSandman [TV series adaptation] together it would be awesome to finish Ag’s story next! God’s don’t die unless they’re forgotten.”
“It’s definitely not dead. I’m grateful to the team at @Starz for the ‘American Gods’ journey so far,” Gaiman tweeted in response Tuesday. “Fremantle (who make Ag) are committed to finishing the story that began in episode 1, and right now we’re all just waiting to see which way forward is best, and who it’ll be with.”

“American Gods” has been canceled after three seasons at Starz.
“Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman’s ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country,” Starz said in a statement Monday.
The news comes a week after the Neil Gaiman adaptation concluded its third season. The 10-episode season debuted in January to declining ratings for the premium cable network after a lengthy hiatus coming out of the behind-the-scenes turmoil on Season 2.
An adaptation of Gaiman’s 2001 novel of the same name, “American Gods” followed the conflict between Old Gods of mythology and New Gods of technology. Ricky Whittle starred as Shadow Moon, an Old God looking to outrun his past by hiding out in a fictional town of Badger State where magic and murder abound, alongside Ian McShane as the mysterious Mr.

The TV gods have turned their favor away from American Gods, at least for now. The series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel starring Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane will not return for a fourth season on Starz, the network confirmed Monday.
The news of the premature end to the often-troubled series is not altogether unexpected, and follows the Season 3 finale on March 21. That season-ender saw Whittle’s Shadow Moon seemingly killed after a vigil at the mythical Tree of Life for his seemingly deceased and estranged father, Mr. Wednesday/Odin, played by McShane. A pivotal point in Gaiman’s book, the incident set up American Gods‘ fourth season with Wednesday taking advantage of Shadow Moon’s sacrifice for Wednesday’s own resurgence in the battle against the New Gods.

“American Gods” will return to Starz for Season 3 starting on Jan. 10.
The Season 3 premiere date was revealed as a message within an image of the Lakeside Clunker Board from Hinzelmann’s shop, referenced within author Neil Gaiman’s novel on which the show is based. In addition to sharing that image, Gaiman, who also created the show and serves as executive producer on it, wrote a letter to the fans, in which he addressed the timeliness of the forthcoming season’s plot, which is set to include more of a focus on immigrants and diversity.
“The struggles of the gods and the people in Season 3 of ‘American Gods’ are the struggles of America,” Gaiman wrote. “We didn’t think it would prove as timely when we plotted it, nor did I think the novel would still be relevant when I wrote it over 20 years ago. But I’m glad it’s happening now,...

American Gods, old and new, are coming back to life in the new year, at least on the small screen. It’s timely too, because “the struggles of the gods and the people in Season 3 of American Gods are the struggles of America,” according to author Neil Gaiman.
The series starring Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane, based on EP Gaiman’s award-winning 2001 novel, will debut its third season on January 10 on Starz.
With former Walking Dead EP Charles “Chic” Eglee in the seemingly ever-changing showrunner seat, the 10-episode new season will take viewers to one of the chiller parts of the divinely inhabited book.
The teasing art work that Starz dropped today reveals not only the debut date of the new season, but a visual reference to Lakeside Clunker Board from Hinzelmann’s shop, a pretty heavy piece of knowledge for fans of the book and the show.

Ruby Entertainment’s Stephen Luby and Mark Ruse have optioned two books by criminal psychologist Tim Watson-Munro which detail his personal and professional experiences in working among some of Australia’s most notorious criminals.
The producers intend to adapt each book into an eight-part drama, developed with the author’s assistance. Writers are yet to be attached.
‘Dancing with Demons’ is set in the Underbelly world of the 1990s and early 2000s and chronicles his encounters with drug lords, murderers and psychopaths. Among the people he assessed were Hoddle Street mass murderer Julian Knight, corporate fraudster Alan Bond and Melbourne gangster Alphonse Gangitano.
In 1999 his $2,000 a week cocaine addiction led to his arrest. He was not convicted, but did receive a fine and a 12-month good behaviour bond. The following year he was deregistered by the Victorian Psychologists Registration Board but he returned to practice in 2004.

Outlander, Season 1, Episode 12, “Lallybroch”
Written by Anne Kenney
Directed by Mike Barker
Airs Saturdays at 9pm Et on Starz
After Claire’s bombshell revelation to Jamie last week, Outlander does not change much. The pair arrive at Lallybroch, and Jamie spends the hour exposing old wounds and struggling to take care of new ones. His relationship with his sister Jenny is complicated, and he doesn’t make it any better when he accuses her of having Jack Randall’s bastard child. Perhaps as a result, she doesn’t take very kindly to Claire either, and the episode is devoted to repairing this relationship as Claire settles into her new home.
There are some subtle differences in the new dynamic between Claire and Jamie. When Claire starts speaking up in front of Jenny and her husband Ian (the child’s actual father), Jamie scolds her. “This is my family, my land,...

The Droughtlander is nearly over. After more than six months away, "Outlander" is finally returning to Starz on Saturday, April 4. Fans have been champing at the bit since September 27 to get the resolution of the cliffhanger involving Claire, Black Jack and the just-in-time arrival of Jamie. Almost immediately upon the return, fans will notice something different. The premiere features Jamie's voiceover, a big deviation from Diana Gabaldon's book. The change in Pov makes a large difference when it comes to The Important Thing That Happens in the premiere, an event that fans of the book have been waiting for all season. Back in January at the TCA press tour, I sat down with "Outlander" showrunner Ronald D. Moore to discuss the impact of the Pov swap, as well as the expanded role of Frank and how changes from the book have shaped the first season. [In the PaleyFest video above, Moore tells me a bit about Gabaldon's involvement in the series.] We also talked about...

Last month, when Outlander, a drama based on Diana Gabaldon’s fantasy/romance/adventures series of books, set up a writers room before Starz had even given the project an order to series, I might’ve said they were being a tad presumptuous. A little optimism is a good thing, but isn’t this a little much? Apparently not, because Starz has, indeed, ordered Outlander to series. From Battlestar Galactica developer Ron Moore, Outlander stands to be one Starz best series if done right. Starz would’ve been completely mental to not pick this project up, especially with Moore’s name attached to it. Even though it’s untested, I have a feeling it will last for years.
Perhaps, like Moore’s decision to open the writers room and hiring four scribes – Toni Gaphia, Matt Roberts, Ira Behr and Anne Kenney – I’m being overly optimistic about the chances Outlander has of being successful,...

I’ve learned that Starz has given a series order to Outlander, a drama based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling fantasy/romance/adventure series of books. I hear the project, from Battlestar Galactica developer Ron Moore and Sony Pictures TV, has received a 16-episode order, with production slated to begin in October in Scotland where the books are set. I hear Gabaldon let the news of the greenlight slip at Book Expo America 2013. The news comes a month after Outlander opened a writers room, with Moore hiring four scribes to work with him — Toni Graphia, Matt Roberts, Ira Behr and Anne Kenney. This marks Sony’s first series for Starz. Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure. It follows Claire, a married WWII combat nurse, who mistakenly steps back in time to year 1743 where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world of adventure that sends...

Despite not giving the series a greenlight, Starz is already looking at filling up a writers room for the development of Outlander, a new series based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling book series. This isn’t really that surprising. All it points toward is Starz’s likely decision to give Outlander a full series order without going through all the nasty business have ordering a pilot and testing it. Most of the other series that have aired on Starz have gone through a similar development of jumping straight to series. They’ve had great success so far; perhaps they feel like they can do no wrong.
Battlestar Galactica developer Ron Moore, who is heading Outlander, was tasked with hiring four writers to join him on the series, according to Deadline. Joining him are Toni Graphia and Matt Roberts, both of whom have had experience working with Moore on Battlestar Galactica and Caprica respectively.

Outlander, Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling fantasy/romance/adventure series of books, is slowly inching to the screen. No greenlight from Starz yet, but I’ve learned that the project has opened a writers room, with Battlestar Galactica developer Ron Moore, who is spearheading the drama series adaptation, hiring four scribes to work with him. The move indicates that Starz is contemplating a potential straight-to-series order for Outlander, a route the pay cable network has taken with most of its original series. Joining Moore on Outlander are two writers who have worked with him before — Battlestar alumna Toni Graphia and Caprica‘s Matt Roberts — along with veteran showruner Ira Behr (Alphas, The 4400) and Anne Kenney (La Law, Switched At Birth).
