Toronto-based filmmaker Deepa Mehta has been making films since the 1970s, including the Oscar-nominated “Water,” part of her elements trilogy; “Bollywood/Hollywood” and “Funny Boy.” Her TV credits include “Yellowjackets,” “Little America” and “Leila.”
As an immigrant to Canada from India, I felt “seen” twice in my life. And both those moments, ironically, were diametrically antithetical to each other.
It was my first foray into North America as a young newlywed documentary filmmaker. I missed my home and family, had no work, couldn’t get the fuss about ice hockey and was frankly surprised at the general questions thrown my way by well-meaning, educated young and old white folk. One lot expressed wonderment at my grasp of the English language. “Where did you learn such good English?” My answer usually was, “on the flight from Delhi to Toronto.” While the other lot expressed complete pity that I came from such an impoverished country,...

Lahore, June 16 (Ians) Former Pakistan spinner Arshad Khan, who is remembered for troubling Indian cricketing icons such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag in the mid-2000s, has fallen on bad days and now drives a cab in Sydney.
It was by chance that Arshad's identity got revealed, when a cricket fan hired his cab in the Australian city recently and found out during the course of conversation that he was being driven by the spinner who has played nine Tests and taken 32 wickets.
"He was the driver of our cab and we started chatting, he told me that he is from Pakistan and lives in Sydney. Also that he has been to Hyderabad many times when he was playing for Lahore Badshahs something in Icl (Indian Cricket League). After which I asked him his full name and then I was shocked to see his face which I could partially recognise.

Vikrum Kumar is adventurous at heart. Sky diving at 15000 ft in midair from a flying jet is no mean feat and the actor has been bestowed with a bravery award by New Zealand Tourism board because he managed to do this without professional training. But this apart, Vikrum Kumar already has two films to his credit - Karan Razdan's Souten and Arshad Khan's Trump Card. He has also done a music video 'Velocity' with T-Series. Both films had Vikrum playing the proverbial hero. He is out to prove his histrionics once again in Jagbir Dahiya directed Hindi feature film Kuchh Kariye. This film is also the debut film as lead for Sukhwinder Singh.
Having two films to your credit already, bagging Kuchh Kariye was easy, right?
I guess, yes! My secretary learnt that Jabir Dahiya, the producer and director, was looking out for an actor to play an important role in the film.
