- Started My Favorite Murder, a true crime podcast, in January 2016 with good friend and television personality, Georgia Hardstark. The podcast has been praised by Rolling Stone, LA Weekly, and Huffington Post among others as one of the best new podcasts of 2016.
- Comedian Margaret Cho extended special thanks to her in her book, I'm the One That I Want (2001). Karen and Margaret became good friends while doing stand-up in San Francisco in the early 90's.
