"You don't believe he's the boogeyman?" "No." "Well, you should." Universal has released a final retro-style trailer looking back at the Halloween legacy and this masked murderer Michael Myers. This horror sequel brings back Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred in the original 1978 film as high school student Laurie Strode. At the helm of this new Halloween movie is filmmaker David Gordon Green, who co-wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride. The cast also includes Judy Greer, Virginia Gardner, Will Patton, Toby Huss, Miles Robbins, Jefferson Hall, Haluk Bilginer, Andi Matichak, with Nick Castle (who also starred in the original 1978 film) as Michael Myers. This sequel just premiered at Fantastic Fest this weekend. Our own Jeremy Kirk wrote in his review that, "in many ways, subtle and direct, Halloween is the horror film 2018 needs most of all." Dive in. Here's the retro "heritage" trailer (+ fan art posters) for David Gordon Green's ...

This weekend officially marks the beginning of blockbuster summer with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sadly, the movie is supremely disappointing, calling back to some of the elements that make Batman Forever a silly trainwreck (but more on that from our own Jeremy Kirk in his review later). If it wasn't for Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, the movie would be nearly unwatchable. Thankfully, Garfield is charming all by himself, and as an end to a week of shows featuring the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, Jimmy Fallon sat down with the franchise star on "The Tonight Show", who was willing to show off his new guitar skills and belt out an acoustic version of the classic Spidey theme. Watch below! Here's Andrew Garfield singing the Spider-Man theme song from "The Tonight Show": And just for fun, here's Emma Stone partaking in an epic lip sync...

Following a bloody first look over a year ago, and playing the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and Fantastic Fest (where our own Jeremy Kirk mostly enjoyed the film), the first trailer for Eli Roth's latest directorial effort, The Green Inferno, has arrived. There's already a sequel on the way, but that shouldn't really spoil the proceedings as a group of students find themselves captured by the native tribe they were intending on saving. It's just a teaser trailer, so there's not much show, but it's certainly effective. Also, the little disclaimer at the end adds a little ominous flare to the film as well. Is it real? Watch the teaser trailer! Here's the teaser trailer for Eli Roth's The Green Inferno from Moviefone: Eli Roth (Hostel) directs The Green Inferno which he wrote with Guillermo Amoedo (Aftershock), and is also producing with Worldview Entertainment and Sobras International. Winding down our look back at the year in cinema that was 2013, we're finally taking a look at some of the staff's favorite films of the year. This time it's our awards expert Joey Magidson (follow all his Oscar updates here) and The Golden Briefcase co-host Jeremy Kirk chiming in with their best. Sadly, the podcast's other host, Tim Buel, hasn't been able to catch up on some of the more acclaimed movies of the year, so he didn't feel prepared to deliver a comprehensive list (though you can check out his favorite horror films of the year right here). So without further adieu, here's Joey & Jeremy's 10 Favorite Films of 2013. Jeremy's Top 10 Films of 2013: #10. After premiering at Fantastic Fest this year (check out a review from Jeremy Kirk), the thriller Grand Piano is coming to theaters next spring (and VOD earlier in the year). Elijah Wood plays a concert pianist attempting a comeback after a career-crippling performance in his past. The pressure is already on, but then things get even more stressful as he finds a note scrawled in his sheet music saying he will be killed if he plays one wrong note. It's basically Phone Booth at a piano but with John Cusack on the other end of the threats this time. Our review says calls it a "stylish, quirky thriller that never hits too heavily." Watch now! Here's the first trailer for Eugenio Mira's Grand Piano, originally from Apple: Grand Piano is directed by Eugenio Mira (Agnosia) and written by Damien Chazelle (The Last Exorcism Part II). The St. Louis International Film Festival is in full swing, but if you’re already tired of preachy documentaries and reading subtitles, you have the chance to enjoy a good, old-fashioned vampire movie. "I know what my thing is, and I'm going to enjoy doing it..." If you're lucky enough to be in Texas this week down at SXSW, this should be at the top of your must-see list. The Godfather of Sound on Sight, Ricky D., and I were recently conversing through email when he broached the topic of me writing an article about the ten best film related podcasts. For those who don’t know me very well I am a big fan of the medium of podcasting when it comes to film. I love good discussion about the world of film, as well as interesting insight about the art form that I am so endeared with. A couple of years ago I began a trek, on my blog, through every single film related podcast I could find. The goal was to experience as much film discussion as I could and to separate the wheat from the chaff. The trek is still ongoing, but at this point I feel like I have a decent handle on what the very best film related podcasts are out of the ones I have listened to.

Even if you don't know the name Yoshihiro Nishimura, if you've seen movies like Tokyo Gore Police or Helldriver, you are fully aware of the director's unique style of over-the-top gore and imagery that could only come from someone's nightmares. A makeup and special effects artist, as well, Nishimura has dug a long line of memorable images in the nine films he's directed. Luckily we had a chance to speak with him recently. Our own Alex Billington named Don Coscarelli's film John Dies at the End as one of his favorites at Sundance, and Jeremy Kirk called it a fun mind-trip. Now audiences will see this wacky horror film for themselves as it hits VOD this winter and limited theaters in February. A great new poster just recently surfaced and hot on its heels is this new trailer that definitely gives us more to chew on than the teaser trailer from last September. The 28th International Documentary Association Awards have today announced their five nominations for their Feature category, and there are certainly some recognizable names among the picks. Most notably, Lauren Greenfield’s The Queen of Versailles, Malik Bendjelloul’s Searching for Sugar Man, and Kirby Dick’s The Invisible War all made the cut, joined by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, and David McMahon’s The Central Park Five and Peter Gerdehag’s Women With Cows. Just over a week after Liam Neeson said that he couldn't imagine making Taken 3, the box office numbers for Taken 2 just might mean he gets a big enough paycheck to change his mind. The sequel (which our own Jeremy Kirk rather disliked) scored $49.5 million at the box office last weekend, and that's enough for Fox and writer Robert Mark Kamen to make another one. The writer recently spoke with Hollywood.com (via ComingSoon), and he says, ""We didn't start talking about it until we saw the numbers. But then we said, 'Oh, okay. I think we should do a third one.' And Fox wants us to do a third one." Oh, joy. Though our own Jeremy Kirk and Alex Billington have already seen Moonrise Kingdom (read both of their reviews here and here), I'm still with a majority of you in waiting until the film expands to a wider release and hits a theater nearby. However, that doesn't stop us from enjoying a hilarious and very meta piece of marketing for the film featuring Jason Schwartzman in character as scout leader Cousin Ben, showing Wes Anderson's film to his troop from the film itself. This could result in a major paradox sending Doctor Emmett L. Brown into a frenzy, but it's a hilarious video to keep audience awareness high. Here's the promo for Moonrise Kingdom, which Wes Anderson directed himself, for Funny or Die: Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, his seventh feature film, was filmed on an island in New England. Yesterday was an experiment in transportation. I'm usually loath to be without my car, but downtown traffic is tough, parking is expensive and sometimes you need to quickly get from point A to point B. So, after watching Paul Williams: Still Alive yesterday at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar, I determined to leave my car parked there and take the shuttle downtown for the Paramount show, The Raid: Redemption.
As I waited in line for the shuttle, however, I saw one of the Catch a Chevy cars and along with my friend Jeremy Kirk (@jeremykkirk), Film School Rejects writer and Golden Briefcase host, we hopped in.

As exclaimed by Jeremy Kirk: "Yes! We all get to keep saying the name Benedict Cumberbatch!" Indeed we do. Variety, with extra confirmation from Deadline, is reporting that on-the-rise British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has nabbed the villain role in J.J. Abrams' currently untitled Star Trek 2. This kind of throws a wrench in the mix, considering we were all following Edgar Ramirez for Khan, and now Variety says he "landed the role that Edgar Ramirez had auditioned for last month." So who is the villain? Someone new, perhaps? Benedict currently appears on "Sherlock" on BBC right now and he was also in War Horse. Cumberbatch isn't the only one joining the cast, as Variety also reported that another on-the-rise British actor named Noel Clarke (from "Doctor Who", Heartless, Centurion, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) is set for a role as "a family man with a wife and young daughter.

They’re like great radio shows of the Web. You can collect them and re-listen to them at any time! They’re podcasts, and today I’m going to list some of my personal favorites. These are all about my favorite subject: movies! I have the equivalent of a week total of the podcasts that are listed here on my iTunes. These aren’t in any particular order--not by popularity, not by year, not by hosts, not alphabetically. If you like these, please give them a listen. All of these are available for free on iTunes, but please visit their websites!

Why Watch? Perhaps the most stunning, deeply-felt zombie short film of all time. Everything here from the cinematography to the effects to the storytelling shines like the finest brains offered up on a silver platter while a gorgeous rendition of “Mara’s Lullaby” plays in the background. What seems silly on face – following a man dressed in a penguin costume who has recently turned undead – becomes truly affecting. It’s one of the few zombie films to deliver a haunting sadness and crucial empathy for the infected. Simply put, it is mind-blowing. (And the end credits hit even harder.) It’s the best zombie short film you’ll see all year. What does it cost? Just 7 minutes of your time. Check out Zombie In a Penguin Suit for yourself: Zombie In A Penguin Suit (2011) Trust us. You have time for more short films. Hat tip to Jeremy Kirk for sending this my way. And...

Hey everyone, we're launching a fun contest today for our official podcast The Golden Briefcase, hosted by Tim Buel & Jeremy Kirk. If you haven't been listening, they host a fantastic weekly audio show talking about all things cinema, with guests, and are just about to hit episode #80 tomorrow. The other day I was browsing through my podcasts in iTunes and glanced at the logo for Tgb. While it's simple and effective, I thought we could come up with something much more worthy of an awesome podcast hosted by two movie geeks, so we're hosting a redesign contest this month to win a $100 Amazon gift card. Read on for info! Here's the details! We're not looking to redesign the logo from scratch, we're simply looking to redesign and improve the iTunes podcast image (as seen below) - it is a 600px by 600px image that represents your podcast on ...

We've already seen the grotesque poster for the unsettling sequel, tossed up an audio review featuring our own Tim Buel, with Brad McHargue & James Marsh, after the film screened at Fantastic Fest (see all our coverage right here), and let our own Jeremy Kirk's not-so-flattering review speak for itself. Now it's time for you to be the judge as the full length theatrical trailer for The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence), the sequel to Tom Six's grotesque horror film The Human Centipede: First Sequence, has finally made its way online. There's not much to say about this one, except to watch the trailer below at your own risk. Last September I attended my first film festival, Austin’s Fantastic Fest. While it was my first film festival, I doubt it can be topped. It caters to my film tastes very well and there is no filler. I fell in love with Alamo Drafthouse the minute I stepped into the first auditorium. I traveled with Jeremy Kirk who writes for FirstShowing.net from St. Louis, Missouri to Austin, TX for a grueling 14 hours throughout the night and ended up staying awake for about 40 hours that first day. This year, I won’t be the only one covering the fest for the site. I will have Michael with me to help. We could of never gone to this festival without you, the readers. So, we want to know what kind of coverage you want from the festival.
Again, we really thank everyone for coming to the site and are looking...

This week, on a very special episode of Reject Radio, we talk with sex symbol and film legend Angie Dickinson, discuss the parasitic relationship between studios and theaters, talk Bellflower‘s marketing strategy, and play a game we’re calling “Co-Directors.” Former assistant theater manager, massive film fan, and creative director at Rock Sauce Studios John Gholson explains how studios and theaters work together. He also makes a sex comedy featuring Andy Griffith seem just as enticing as it is in real life. Angie Dickinson has starred in over 50 films, played iconic roles from Rio Bravo to Ocean’s Eleven, and she was kind enough to spend some time talking to us about working with Sam Fuller and Frank Sinatra, creating her characters, and how movie-making has changed. Fsr’s own Culture Warrior (and one of the Talking Heads) Landon Palmer braves a segment where we come up with directors we’d like to see work together...

Some know him as @ManMadeMoon on Twitter, others know him as "Zowie Bowie", but everyone knows him as the talented filmmaker who broke out with the incredible indie sci-fi Moon in '09. Director Duncan Jones has finished and is about to release his second feature film - Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a soldier sent back in an 8-minute time loop to try and prevent the bombing of a train. I first met Duncan during Sundance when I interviewed him for Moon and have remained friends ever since. It was an honor to catch up with him again last week to talk about all things Source Code and life since Sundance 2009. Enjoy! Watch Alex's full video interview with Source Code / Moon director Duncan Jones: I haven't reviewed Source Code yet, but our own Jeremy Kirk published his from SXSW. I have seen the film and really enjoyed it,...

We'll say this about Zack Snyder: The guy knows how to stir up passion in moviegoers, whether those intense feelings skew toward the aggressively negative or the bow-down-before-a-cinematic-god positive. Just take a peek at reviews for the director's adaptation of "Watchmen" in 2009.
A similar disparity in critical assessments surrounds Snyder's latest offering, the fantastical battle royale called "Sucker Punch." Some reviewers are passionately defending the film and calling out the haters for simply failing to understand what the director was trying to accomplish. Many more, however, are accusing Snyder of being the one who failed to deliver.
Will you love it? Hate it? Have you somehow never even heard of it? Check out what...

Last year we featured a teaser trailer for a film called Rubber about, believe it or not, a sentient rubber tire that rolls around and blows people up because it doesn't like the way humans treat, well, tires. I saw the film in Cannes (read my review) then it played Fantastic Fest int he fall, where our own Jeremy Kirk saw it and loved it (read his glowing review). Rubber is hitting limited theaters in a few months, and Magnet Releasing has released a theatrical trailer that's just as wacky as the film itself. This is easily the weirdest and wackiest film I've seen, but watch out, because not everyone is going to love this (I didn't like it). But enjoy anyway! Watch the official theatrical trailer for Quentin Dupieux's Rubber: [flv:http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/Rubber-officialNewtrailer480.mp4 http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/Rubber-officialNewtrailer480.jpg 598 338] You can also watch the official Rubber trailer in High Definition on Apple In the Californian desert,...
