Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny are joining Daniel Craig in the upcoming Knives Out 3 sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Last week, writer and director Rian Johnson confirmed on X, formerly Twitter, that Craig would be reprising his role as Benoit Blanc in the next ensemble murder mystery film. In a 45-second video teaser video, he also revealed the sequel’s title as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
“The next Benoit Blanc mystery, the follow-up to Knives Out and Glass Onion, is called Wake Up Dead Man,” the filmmaker wrote in the post’s caption on Friday.
Netflix also confirmed Craig’s return and the sequel title on its Tudum site following Johnson’s post.
“That’s right, Daniel Craig is back as the suave Southern investigator in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, a new installment of the whodunnit franchise written and directed by Rian Johnson.

It is apparently official: Quentin Tarantino's 10th and final film will not be "The Movie Critic." I say "apparently" because Tarantino briefly abandoned "The Hateful Eight" when the screenplay leaked to the internet, so maybe "The Movie Critic" still has a shot at going before a camera. But this feels final. It sounds like the concept got away from him, and he would've done the one thing he's talked about but avoided his entire career: he was going to make a sequel.
If The Hollywood Reporter has their story straight, "The Movie Critic" began life as a 1970s character study that was, in Tarantino's words, "based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag" before expanding into a Hollywood yarn that involved Brad Pitt's Hollywood stuntman Cliff Booth from "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

With all the abrupt updates about Quentin Tarantino’s canceled tenth movie, there are so far no possible perspectives for where the director’s final touch in the cinema industry could go — but, as more details are coming in, it turns out that Tarantino’s initial plan for the final movie was abandoned long before the news about it broke a couple of days ago.
On top of that, the director considered a step towards his previous story which could surely cause a lot of excitement among his fans — despite that, this idea was also doomed to stay on the shelf.
Thus, The Hollywood Reporter’s writer Borys Kit has recently spilled some tea about Quentin Tarantino’s hectic change of plans over the course of last months.

The next iteration of The Office is coming together.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the new take on the beloved NBC Steve Carell comedy has cast the first two members of what will be the ensemble comedy with Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) and Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) becoming the first two to join the cast of the potential series.
Reps for Universal Television, which is producing the updated take from creators Greg Daniels and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), declined to comment as the details surrounding the project remain closely guarded. A platform for the project has not yet been determined as sources say Daniels and the studio want to make sure the take is right before setting it up at a network/streamer. The 2024 Oscars began six minutes late on Sunday when pro-Palestine protesters stopped traffic en route to the ceremony, blocking attendees in their cars on Hollywood’s Highland Avenue and calling into question if all of the night’s nominees would arrive at the event.
The demonstrators brought traffic at the intersection of Sunset and Highland to a complete standstill for more than 30 minutes, according to those caught in the disruption, causing some people to leave their vehicles and begin walking toward the event. Police arrived to disperse the blockage, but cars were still stuck at the time of publication. The protests ultimately led to the delay of the broadcast, which was meant to start at 4 p.m. Pt; it ultimately began with a cold open at 4:06 p.m. Pt.

Those following the saga of Coyote vs. Acme waited with bated breath Friday for Warner Bros. Discovery’s earnings report to hint at any signs of the animated film’s fate.
The feature became the most talked about movie in town on Nov. 10, when The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Warners intended to scrap the movie. The outcry from filmmakers on social media was swift, and Warners soon reversed course, and decided to allow director Dave Green to shop the film to other buyers — something Green had been preparing to do when Warners surprised him by scrapping the film. Green ultimately showed the film to multiple buyers, with at least one bid coming in at around $40 million, according to one source.

Scott Stuber, who pushed Netflix to expand into blockbuster movie territory, is stepping down from the streaming service’s top film job to form his own media company.
Stuber will remain with the streamer until March, at which point Netflix Cco Bela Bajaria will temporarily assume his role while she searches for a replacement. Bloomberg first reported the news.
Under Stuber’s direction, Netflix’s feature business aggressively entered the blockbuster space, courting filmmakers such as Zack Snyder, the Russo brothers, Michael Bay and Rawson Marshall Thurber. The era began with the Will Smith starrer Bright, the 2017 film that had a reported budget of $90 million, a hefty number that turned heads at the time but would soon look quaint compared to what was to come.
Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, cost somewhere in the $250 million to $300 million range, while the Russo’ Gray Man cost in the $200 million range.

Mort Engelberg, who was a producer on films including Smokey and the Bandit and The Big Easy before transitioning into politics as an “advance man” for Bill Clinton and other presidential candidates, died Saturday in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 86.
“He was a wonderful person, a wonderful husband. He loved the movie business, and he loved his work with President Clinton,” his wife, Helaine Blatt, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He told the best stories of anyone I ever met, the best jokes.”
Born and raised in Memphis, Engelberg graduated from the University of Illinois and then spent a year working on a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri. He left school before completing that degree and worked as a journalist for a few years before moving to Washington in 1961 to work for Sargent Shriver, the director of the then-newly formed Peace Corps, and later...

A Three’s Company reboot hasn’t happened yet. But that doesn’t mean ideas haven’t been discussed. Suzanne Somers, who played Chrissy Snow on the classic TV show and died on Oct. 15, 2023, once shared her idea for a Three’s Company reboot. It involved her deceased co-star, John Ritter (Jack Tripper), in hologram form, and his son, Jason Ritter.
Somers wanted Chrissy and Jack to be married with a child in a ‘Three’s Company’ reboot
In an April 2022 episode of the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast, Somers shared her idea behind a Three’s Company reboot, explaining how it could continue without Ritter, who died in 2003. Her suggestion: a holographic version of the late actor. (More on that ahead.)
“I had suggested a show where you would imagine that Chrissy Snow and Jack Tripper eventually got married and had a child,” Somers said.

“Picketing Disney Is More Fun Than Writing a ‘Star Wars’ Movie”: Scribes Mark 100 Days of the Strike
Resolve and solidarity were the common refrains Wednesday as writers marked the grim 100-day milestone in the Writers Guild of America’s ongoing strike against Hollywood’s studios and streamers. Joined on the picket line by the similarly striking performers union, SAG-AFTRA, caffeinated scribes celebrated the two unions’ collective resolve on the day that WGA negotiating committee co-chair Chris Keyser called “an anniversary of shame for the AMPTP.”
Eric Robbins (Star Trek: Discovery), the lot coordinator at Disney, said the atmosphere Wednesday was positive, noting that the 100-day marker “rejuvenated and really invigorated” writers to return to the picketing, which he said “pumped a lot of lifeblood into the line.” After Friday’s meeting between the WGA and AMPTP yielded no signs of when both sides would return to the bargaining table, he said scribes have “as much passion and as much solidarity as we did on day one.”

Brothers Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are teaming up to pen Disney+’s Lando series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The deal, first reported by Above the Line, was made prior to the Writers Strike, which began in May. Justin Simien, who was previously attached to develop Lando, exited the Star Wars project prior to the duo signing on.
Disney announced in December 2020 that the Lucasfilm show was in the works. Donald Glover, who will star in the series, previously played Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. While the film bombed at the box office, Glover’s performance was well received.
The smooth-talking smuggler first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, with original Lando actor Billy Dee Williams returning for Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
During a recent interview with THR, Simien spoke about the Lando project, and said he was uncertain about its future.

“I probably am the biggest nerd in Congress.” That’s Rep. Robert Garcia’s self-assessment, at least when it comes to comic books (and the movies inspired by them). The Democrat and former mayor of Long Beach has been an avid comic book fan since he was child, and says he’s seen every Marvel and DC movie multiple times.
Garcia made waves in the comic book community in January when he was sworn in on a rare copy of 1939’s Superman No. 1. He continued to gain notice with tweets lobbed at DC Studios co-head James Gunn, including one in which he jokingly threatened a congressional inquiry unless Gunn delivered a DC slate by the end of January. (Gunn, who had previously stated the slate would come that month, complied two days later.) He is even poised to lead Wednesday’s public hearings on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (formerly known as...

Here’s some shocking news for our Friday afternoon: THR has reported that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role of Elektra for Deadpool 3. Yep, let that soak in.
Jennifer Garner first played Elektra alongside Ben Affleck in Daredevil. The character proved popular enough to receive her very own spin-off, which was unfortunately trashed by critics and grossed just $57 million worldwide. That might have been the last we saw of Jennifer Garner as Elektra… but Deadpool obviously has other plans. THR’s Borys Kit described Jennifer Garner’s role in Deadpool 3 as a “cameo-like appearance” on Twitter.
It remains to be seen precisely how Elektra will factor into Deadpool 3, but her involvement could hint at a multiverse story. I imagine that fans may now be wondering whether Ben Affleck could be persuaded to suit up as Daredevil; As this is Deadpool we’re talking about, I suppose anything could happen.

The piece contains major spoilers for “The Flash,” now in theaters.
This time, he avoided the Bat nipples.
In the final moments of “The Flash,” none other than George Clooney makes a shocking appearance as Bruce Wayne, a cheeky bit of stunt casting that brought Clooney back to the superhero franchise 26 years after his infamous stint as the Caped Crusader in “Batman & Robin.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clooney’s appearance was part of reshoots conducted on the film earlier this year after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Films from the prior regime. The initial incarnation of the finale included “The Flash” stars Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle, who, respectively, played Batman and Supergirl in the film but died fighting back against General Zod (Michael Shannon) in the main story. But that ending was scrapped when the corporate leadership changed last year, and a second attempt put together Calle,...

“The Flash” has received high praise from folks like Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav and newly installed DC Films co-chief James Gunn. But for “The Flash” director Andy Muschietti, one of the best endorsements of the project came from the legendary star who “saved Hollywood’s ass.”
That would be Tom Cruise, of course. In March, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Cruise had seen the film after meeting with Zaslav about something unrelated to the film earlier this year. “Cruise was so taken by what he saw that soon after, he reached out to Muschietti,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit wrote at the time. “It was a call out of the blue for the director. Cruise is said to have raved about the movie, saying something to the effect that ‘Flash’ is ‘everything you want in a movie’ and ‘this is the kind of movie we need now,’ according to insiders.

Marvel's "Blade" reboot starring Mahershala Ali is now the first major studio feature film to pause due to the WGA strike. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit and Aaron Couch, the production was supposed to start filming in Atlanta next month but will now hold until after the writer's strike is resolved.
You may remember that as recently as April 28 we heard that the studio had hired yet another writer to take a crack at the script, and a very interesting writer at that. Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of "True Detective", was brought on board in a surprising move by Marvel Studios, surprising because it was so close to filming and because Pizzolatto is a very distinctive writer who has a reputation around town as sticking to his creative guns in a way that often doesn't jibe well with the very collaborative process at Marvel.

Jonathan Majors is no longer repped by management firm Entertainment 360, with the move coming as the actor faces criminal charges in New York, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
The public relations firm The Lede Company also stepped aside last month and is no longer repping him, sources tell THR.
Majors was arrested on suspicion of strangulation, assault and harassment in New York on March 26, after a woman sustained minor injuries in what police described as a domestic dispute. Majors was charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, attempted assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree.
Majors, through an attorney, has denied wrongdoing.
“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows,” the actor’s criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement at the time.

Nicholas Hoult is poised to have a pretty successful spring. This weekend he has the title role in Universal’s gory R-rated comedy “Renfield” opposite Nicolas Cage as Dracula. Next month, he returns to Hulu’s comedy “The Great” for Season 3 fresh off his first-ever Emmy nomination for the show last year. He’s also starring in Robert Eggers’s next ensemble horror-thriller, “Nosferatu” opposite the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bill Skarsgard, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe. But in an interview with The Guardian published this week, Hoult was in a reflective mood about the roles that got away.
Asked about how he felt during the early days of the pandemic, which Hoult called the longest stretch of time he’s had without work, the actor said it was largely fine in terms of his mental health. “I think because I was just home being dad, which was nice,” the actor,...

Francis Ford Coppola’s latest movie, the sci-fi-tinged Megalopolis, has descended into chaos, according to multiple sources. The movie, currently halfway through shooting in Atlanta, has in the last week lost key creative talent including its production designer and supervising art director. That’s on top of losing the entire visual effects team in the first part of December.
To many insiders, the production is giving severe Apocalypse Now vibes, and it’s one on which the iconoclastic 83-year-old director is breaking a cardinal Hollywood rule: Never spend your own money.
Megalopolis has been a passion project decades in the making for the filmmaker, who turned heads in the fall of 2021 when news broke that he would be self-financing the 120 million film, partially with the tens of millions he made selling his popular Northern California wineries. The budget has since expanded and the film is now about halfway through its 80- to 90-day shoot,...

If you're not entertained, you will be soon: Ridley Scott's "Gladiator 2" is actually happening, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and it's already finalizing its lead. Scott's original 2000 Best Picture winner starred Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, an enslaved Roman warrior who faces off against Joaquin Phoenix's villainous ruler Commodus. The new film is reportedly set to tell the story of Lucius, the nephew of Commodus, with "Normal People" and "Aftersun" star Paul Mescal in talks to take on the role.

The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit sent shockwaves through Hollywood and comic book movie fandom yesterday when he broke the news that Warner Bros. and DC Studios would not be moving forward with a third "Wonder Woman" movie. This came on the heels of Variety reporting that the company's "Black Adam" stood to lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 million to 100 million due to its tepid box office performance. WB has disputed the latter story, but offered no rebuttal to Kit's piece -- which also included several juicy details about the future of the DC Universe under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The big takeaway from Kit's reporting is that DC will likely be closing the book on Zack Snyder's superhero run. This is wise both creatively and financially. Since its launch in 2013 with "Man of Steel," the Snyderverse lurched from one misconceived movie to another,...

Amazon was launching its own 500 million Lord of the Rings TV series, and it was in the market for a way to hook potential viewers of its fantasy epic. So, naturally, it called Warner Bros. Discovery, the owner of Amazon Prime Video’s competitor, HBO Max.
The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films are controlled by Warner Bros. and had been locked up exclusively for streaming on HBO Max by the company’s previous owner. The trilogy, which generated nearly 3 billion in box office revenue and comprised some of the best known IP in the HBO Max film library, was now up for grabs, at least on a nonexclusive basis. Whereas before, WarnerMedia zealously guarded its films for HBO Max, now Warner Bros. Discovery is open about the fact that, well, they are, as CEO David Zaslav says, “open for business.”

“We’ve done a reset.” That’s how Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav described DC on Aug. 4, days after he made the call to shelve the 90 million HBO Max film Batgirl. The mogul said there’d now be a team that would create a “10-year” plan for DC, although who’s on that team is unclear.
And Zaslav took digs at former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar’s strategy of developing straight-to-streaming films. “We are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it’s ready,” said the executive. “DC is something we can make better.”
The remarks were not well received inside DC, according to multiple insiders who used the same word to describe members of the film division: “pissed.” And DC Films president Walter Hamada nearly exited after learning of the shelving of Batgirl before...

Ever since The Mandalorian was announced, fans have been wondering if Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin would ever come helmet to helmet with the most famous Mandalorian of them all, Boba Fett. Season 1 didn’t deliver on that promise, but it looks like the Disney Plus show’s sophomore run will serve up what we all want to see. And a familiar face from Star Wars history will apparently be back to play him, to boot.
In his latest Heat Vision column, The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit writes that sources have revealed Temuera Morrison is appearing in The Mandalorian season 2, and he’ll be playing Boba Fett. The New Zealand actor first starred in Attack of the Clones as Jango Fett, from whom all the Clone Troopers are derived. Including his own clone son, Boba. Morrison’s voice has also been dubbed over Fett in The Empire Strikes Back.

With all the talk about which role Jonah Hill was set to play in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” we forgot the obvious answer. Would he play The Riddler or would it be The Penguin? Well, the correct response would have been Option C, “none of the above.”
According to Deadline and THR writer Borys Kit, it appears the days of Jonah Hill playing a villain in a ‘Batman’ film are over before they even began.

Jonah Hill is out of The Batman solo movie, but other details have arisen about who is in.
Things are about to get really busy in Gotham City. The Batman solo movie is scheduled to begin filming in early 2020, and we're already seeing a flurry of casting announcements. And considering that there's no more wretched hive of scum and villainy than Gotham, expect a lot of that casting buzz to revolve around assorted Batman villains. And there have been plenty of reports that indicate that Batman is going to have to take on a number of his most well known foes in this movie, although in what capacity that might be, we still don't know.
But with early casting talks always comes the occasional departure. Back in September it was reported that Jonah Hill was in talks for a villain role in The Batman, joining Robert Pattinson...

Ever since the news broke that the Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios partnership that saw Spider-Man appear in the McU had collapsed, there’s been a lot of misinformation about why this was the case. It’s tricky to know what’s really going on given that these are complex and (apparently) frosty negotiations between the two corporate behemoths, and the PR line about the dispute simply being over Kevin Feige’s producer credit looks flimsy. Fortunately, Borys Kit at THR seems to have the real inside scoop, shedding some light on why Sony Pictures thinks they can go at it alone with Spider-Man.
This is largely based on the two studios being in a very different place than they were when they signed the original Spider-Man agreement in 2014. Back then, Sony Pictures had released the largely derided The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which despite pulling in $700 million at the global box office,...

Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter alludes to Andy Serkis being the perfect director for Venom 2 and to be quite honest one can’t help but agree with that sentiment. After all, this is the man that had a big part in making some of our favorite villains come to life on the big screen, and I’m not talking about Ulysses Klaue. His time as Gollum and even as Caesar in the recent Planet of the Apes movies seems to suggest that he’s the guy to go to when it comes to acting out a motion-capture character, as Venom clearly

If you’ve been keeping up to date on video game film adaptations, then there’s a good chance you’re already familiar with Detective Pikachu. This joint collaboration between Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures and The Pokémon Company is a first for the ever-popular franchise, which has already seen plenty of animated movies modeled after the long-running TV show.
While critics took issue with the overall plot and characters – a sentiment shared by our very own Mike Lee – it’s hard to deny Detective Pikachu‘s success at the box office. Longtime Pokémon fans (myself included) were pleased with how the lovable creatures looked on screen, and it should come as no surprise that Legendary announced a sequel is already in development. So far it sounds like Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter and many others are on board with Kevin Hart’s decision to remake the cult classic Scrooged. The original movie that starred Bill Murray and several other notable actors became a cult classic over the years and a staple of the holidays since it was loosely based around A Christmas Story, the old Charles Dickens contribution to the season. But does this movie really need to be remade or is this just another attempt at trying to outdo or update something that can still stand on its own? It’s kind

Yet another Hotel Transylvania animated movie is in the works.
Hotel Transylvania 4 is on the way!
News of an active fourth film in the obscenely successful Hotel Transylvania franchise arrived yesterday from Borys Kit over at THR, along with a 2021 release date:

Sony Pictures Animation has likely been very keen to kickstart Hotel Transylvania 4 for a while - as the man indicates, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation was its biggest hit to date with a worldwide box office of $528.6 million. Even Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hasn't managed to touch it.

Yesterday a big rumor started spreading across the internet that Armie Hammer was in “final talks” to take on the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in director Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman.
The rumor originated at Revenge of the Fans, and it has since been debunked by a few different sources. The rumor is not true:

After years of mere hints and murmurs on the potential existence of Ghostbusters 3, the news came all at once this week, starting with the announcement that director Jason Reitman will be following in his father Ivan Reitman’s footsteps to helm a sequel that marks a return to the continuity of the first two movies.
The internet was still reeling from the announcement when the film’s first teaser dropped online and confirmed the return of the old Ecto-1 vehicle. But while the footage was decidedly people-free, Wgtc heard from a trusted source shortly thereafter that the two leads of the film would be a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

There are many major blockbusters arriving this year, but there are only two that are comfortably expected to sit at the top of the box office charts by the time 2019 ends: Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: Episode IX. Both will see the end of the current storyline that’s been building up for the last few years and will have to pick up the pieces after an unexpectedly dark predecessor (Infinity War/The Last Jedi).

The rumors that point to Ben Affleck hanging up the cape and cowl continue to fester and honestly, they’re a bit upsetting to hear. Though we’ve only really seen him as Batman in two films so far, he’s left a pretty good impression and turned many doubters into fans. In fact, for a lot of DC supporters, he’s the only interpretation of the Dark Knight that they’ll accept on the big screen right now.
After seeing his work in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it became difficult to picture anyone else but him in the dual role of Bruce Wayne and Batman. And though Justice League wasn’t a great movie, Big Ben certainly wasn’t to blame, as he gave us another interesting and exciting take on the Caped Crusader.
