It seemed rather fitting that we hit the set of writer, director and producer Thomas J. Churchill’s ambitious zombie feature Lazarus on Easter Sunday, and we’re glad we did.
Battling the throngs of Sunday worshippers who’d clogged Los Angeles’ concrete arteries for Hollywood Bowl’s Easter Mass, we made our way to Tarzana, CA, where filmmaker Churchill had set up shop at Waggin’ Tails Lounge, a dog grooming facility owned by his cousin, Kathie Fiorillo. Shooting day twelve of thirteen on the Canon 5D, Churchill was prepping a scene which would feature the re-animation of the dead, and while it may be poised to enter the already bloated sub-genre of independent zombie cinema, readers, do please take note: Lazarus seems to be hell-bent on offering an entirely fresh take.

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977)
Following the financial success of Jaws, director Steven Spielberg took the risky step of remaking Firelight, a small low-budget movie he'd directed when he was just 16. The resulting movie,...

This scribe hit Rachel Belofsky’s Screamfest La in Hollywood, CA, last night (as I do every night – extensive video and stills below), where Ti West, the director of The House of the Devil (review here) (screening as the fest’s "Centerpiece Film"), talked up his new series "Dead and Lonely", which begins airing on IFC Monday, October 26th, as well as the dust-up surroundng his Cabin Fever 2 (sort of).
Star of The House of the Devil Jocelin Donahue chimed in about her role in West’s legitimate recreation of early 80’s horror as seen in The House of the Devil , and Icelandic director Julius Kemp of the Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre (the film plays at Screamfest La tonight) spilled on the distribution of that film (which will be at Afm – hopefully American audiences will see it soon).
Perennial badass and actor Marc (The Lost, Cabin Fever 2) Senter showed up...

Camping. We can cite so many different reasons why we shouldn't spend time in the woods. It's a kind of foreign realm to us city folk. There are just too many variables. Especially at night. In the dark. With his new film Alluvial producer-director Geza Decsy and company are set to give us a whole new reason to fear what's out there -- ourselves.
Alluvial is a horror/survival film that chronicles the downward spiral of seven friends who, while camping in the godforsaken badlands of Panamint Valley, contract a mysterious illness, one which causes them to turn on one another in a mesmerizing display of skewed emotions and primal rage.
Already cast are Ken Lally ("Heroes", "Enterprise") and R.A. Mihailoff (Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3). Geza Decsy will produce with filmmaker Paul Hough (The Human Race, The Angel). Roy Knyrim’s Sota FX (The Abyss, Ed Wood, Of Gods and...

Take the Insane Clown Posse and former Ecw wrestler Ravenm (also of WCW, Wwe, RoH, Tna...) and put them in an Asylum mockbuster of the upcoming Death Race remake directed by the guy who did the blood-soaked Cemetery Gates and the seriously wacko Demons at the Door and what do you get? From the looks of the trailer for Death Racers: one seriously gonzo splatterfest.
"In this grim vision of the future where brutality is a virtue and mercy will cost you your life, contestants participate in a cross-country death race where killing is how you win the game."
Kind of depressing that The Asylum's knock-off of the remake of Death Race 2000 seems to have more in common with the plot to Death Race 2000 than Paul Ws Anderson's upcoming remake.
Death Racers was meant to be released to DVD the same week Death Race hit big screens; that all got...
