Aleko Konstantinov(1863-1897)

Konstantinov spent most of his youth in Russia. Studied law at Odessa
University and graduated in 1885, after which he returned to Bulgaria
(which had become an independent state by then) to work at the Sofia
Law Court. In 1893 he travelled to the United States and wrote the
journal To Chicago and Back, published the same year. Konstantinov was
politically active and he was murdered by political opponents in May
1897, barely 34 years old. As a writer he became famous for his Bai
Gano stories.
