Recipient of many grants and fellowships, including Whitney Independent Study Program, MacDowell, Jerome Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Edward Albee Foundation. Kouguell's internationally award-winning short films are in the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection and archives, and included in the Whitney Museum Biennial. Kouguell worked on Louis Malle's And the Pursuit of Happiness, associate produced two features, was a story analyst and story editor at Miramax, Paramount Pictures, Viacom, and Punch Productions (Dustin Hoffman), a film acquisitions consultant at Warner Bros. and Republic Pictures, and wrote over a dozen feature assignments for independent companies. Author of Savvy Characters Sell Screenplays! and The Savvy Screenwriter, Kouguell is the Senior Contributing Editor at Script Magazine and wrote for Indiewire/SydneysBuzz. She teaches at SUNY Purchase, presents international screenwriting seminars, taught at the Prague Film School (CZ), and as chairperson of Su-City Pictures East, LLC, consults with filmmakers, executives and studios worldwide.
