- His last film project was an animated version of Voltaire's Candide, to be co-produced with a French studio. He died during preproduction. The project was later picked up by Hungarian animators in the 2010s who, following Kovásznai's original production notes but disregarding his proposed character designs, released the short film The Adventures of Candide (2014), which was then expanded into the controversial short adult animated series Candide (2018).
- Upon seeing his works, many Western artists and animators were surprised that they came from Socialist Hungary, due to their experimental, artistic and at times adult nature, as well as their social critique. However Kovásznai and his works remained very poorly known even in his home country, and only in the 1990s and 2000s did people begin to rediscover them.
- According to his peers, he was obsessed with breasts. Unsurprisingly, large-chested women and nude models were commonly featured in his works, both on his paintings and in his animated films.
