Jeremy Kramer out at youth-oriented division after 18 months.
In the latest studio streamlining move Paramount Pictures has absorbed Paramount Players under the leadership of motion picture group co-heads Daria Cercek and Michael Ireland.
Paramount Players president Jeremy Kramer will step down after 18 months overseeing the division, which was initially set up for current Paramount Pictures president and CEO Brian Robbins to make youth-oriented films in conjunction with flagship brands under what was then the Viacom stable.
Robbins said the goal of folding Players into the motion picture group was to use the big studio’s “power” to scale the expertise and projects within Players.

Paramount Players has optioned eight novels from author Gregg Hurwitz’s “Marked Man” series of books, with plans to adapt them for a series of feature films.
The division of the ViacomCBS-owned studio, run by Jeremy Kramer, is eyeing lower budgets for the contemporary noir thrillers and specifically looking for diverse and perhaps first-time writers and directors to create the world.
Hurwitz is the bestselling author of “Orphan X” and will produce the films alongside Emmy winner Scott Frank, producer of Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit.” The latter brought the books to the studio. While not connected by a central character, Hurwitz’s novels are among the most praised of the pot-boiler genre — usually invoking heinous crimes or geopolitical intrigue. The film adaptations are said to be connected thematically.
Full titles being optioned include “Do No Harm,” “The Crime Writer,” “Trust No One,” “They’re Watching,” “You’re Next,” “The Survivor,...

Paramount Pictures is looking to revive Paramount Players, a sleepy label it launched to back properties with a contemporary feel in 2017. Jeremy Kramer, a 20th Century Fox executive, is at the top of a shortlist to lead the shingle, but there’s no deal in place.
If Kramer gets tapped, it will mark a reunion with Emma Watts, the motion picture group president who joined Paramount in June after a long run at Fox. Watts had soured on the direction that Fox was taking after it was purchased by The Walt Disney Company and was convinced to make the leap by Paramount chairman Jim Gianopulos, the former Fox studios chief. Other Fox veterans to follow Gianopulos to Paramount include distribution head Chris Aronson and global communications head Chris Petrikin.

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures is getting ready to rev up Paramount Players, the shingle that was formed around Brian Robbins several years ago to generate niche, genre and cutting edge films. It hasn’t had a president, or much output, since Robbins left to run Nickelodeon. Emma Watts is looking to revive the label and is down to a few candidates to run it. Deadline hears that Jeremy Kramer, an exec who worked with Watts at Fox and who is now at Disney, is atop the leader board. No comment from Paramount, which is also looking to fill the production president post and word is another exec who worked with Watts at Fox, Mike Ireland, is rumored as a contender for that job.
Films from the Paramount Players label so far include Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Playing With Fire.
Stay tuned.

Longtime 20th Century Studios executives Jeremy Kramer and Mike Ireland are both being considered for possible posts at Paramount.
If deals make, both Kramer and Ireland would be joining former 20th Century production president Emma Watts, who herself joined Paramount in June as the president of the motion picture group under Jim Gianopulos.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Kramer would head studio label Paramount Players, which was started by Brian Robbins, who then left to head Nickelodeon. Paramount Players’ movies include What Men Want and Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Last week, it was reported that James Franco would star in and be involved with the development of a new X-Men film called Multiple Man. Franco has now officially confirmed that he is involved with a superhero project. He recently told THR:
“I do have a superhero that I am developing. I don't know how much I can say. But I will say I am producing and performing in it. Or will perform in it. It's early stages. I think probably what I can say is, like anything, there's a need to develop more. I have a company with my brother now called Ramona Films. We're developing all kinds of movies. Our bottom line Mo is, how can we push this into new ground? A little bit, but still make it entertaining? So that separates it from what I was doing alone, me making a Cormac McCarthy film, pushing into the new frontier of necrophiliacs.

20th Century Fox is currently developing another Marvel film set in the X-Men universe called Multiple Man. According to Deadline, James Franco is set to play the lead role! The film is being written by Wonder Woman scribe and Allan Heinberg and it will be produced by Simon Kinberg who has been involved with all of the X-Men movies. For those of you not familiar with Multiple Man, here's a description:
Multiple Man is Jamie Madrox, who, in the comics, conveyed his cloning powers at birth, when a second, identical version of him appeared after the doctor slapped the infant to get him to breathe. His father, a worker at the Los Alamos Nuclear Research Center, moved his family to a remote farm where his son — fitted with a special suit to control his powers designed by X-Men patriarch Professor Xavier — lived quietly until the suit malfunctioned and he began to go crazy.

Exclusive: After completing production on his buddy comedy script Let’s Be Cops, Fox has made a mid-six figure deal for an untitled pitch by Nick Thomas. The project will be produced by Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood, who with director Luke Greenfield produced Let’s Be Cops. That comedy, which Fox releases August 13, is about a couple of knuckleheads who impersonate cops and get in way over their heads. The film stars Nina Dobrev, Jake Johnson, Andy Garcia and Damon Wayans Jr. Thomas made the preemptive deal to write what is described to me as a big idea concept comedy, so they’re keeping the logline under wraps.
