For Pixar’s latest feature, “Light- year,” director of photography Jeremy Lasky worked with production designer Tim Evatt and lighting Dp Ian Megibben to establish the look of the CGI film. Together they decided it needed to be not only cohesive and clear but also cinematic.
The movie, in theaters now, is a new adventure about one of Andy’s favorite toys, Buzz Lightyear, from the “Toy Story” franchise. This time around, though, Buzz is human — the hero who inspires the toy. The film is set in space, with Buzz,voiced by Chris Evans, stranded on a hostile planet with his crew, and he’s now on a rescue mission to get everyone safely home.

(A two-week “Lightyear” run begins in IMAX theaters this weekend.) Pixar’s “Lightyear,” an origin story based on the beloved astronaut Buzz Lightyear from the “Toy Story franchise,” takes the series into new galaxies with a fleet of NASA-inspired spaceships. In early March, Disney invited me and a handful of other writers to fly to Monterey Bay, California, and attend an early press event for Pixar’s newest film, Finding Dory. Why Monterey? Because it’s the site of one of the world’s coolest aquariums, where a lot of the Dory team did hands-on research for the movie, and it serves as the inspiration for a major location in the new movie. We spent two days checking out the aquarium and talking to the filmmakers about revisiting and expanding the world of Finding Nemo, how they brought the story to life, and much more.

The two Cars movies that Pixar has made so far are my least favorite of any Pixar film, but the kids love them regardless, and they also make money. I'll be surprised if we ever wee a third Cars film, but Pixar has released three short films for the franchise that some of you Disney/Pixar fans might like to check out.
The short series is called Tales From Radiator Springs and they were directed by Jeremy Lasky. The first is called Hiccups, and features Lightning McQueen getting the Hiccups. The second is called Bugged, and features fire engine Red getting Bugged, and the third one of called Spinning, and is about Guido with a Spinning sign.

"The Adventures of Tintin" dominated the nominations but it was "Rango" that received the most trophies at the 10th Visual Effects Society (Ves) awards. Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.

The visual effects that we are seeing in movies these days are absolutely mind blowing. At this point it doesn't seem like there's any excuse for a film to have bad visual effects unless the people hired lack talent, or the studio is keeping the cash in their pockets.
There's a lot of good nomination this year such as Captain America, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Out of all of these I think that Planet of the Apes might take home the top prize, those apes were incredibly freaky looking. Weta did an amazing job with this movie, and out of all the other nominations this was the movie I was most impressed by. What are your thoughts?
