It’s happened five times in the last 11 years (including three years in a row) that an acting winner has has also carried along the hair/makeup team for triumphs at the Academy Awards, a trend that Brendan Fraser and the makeup/prosthetics team from “The Whale” (headed by Judy Chin) hope to continue this year. To be sure, the transformation of Fraser into a 600-pound man proved a visually stunning on-camera masterwork, and it would surprise few if the actor and the team in charge of his radically altered appearance were both to be honored with Oscar hardware.
Most recently, Jessica Chastain won the lead actress prize for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” at last year’s Oscars, while the makeup/hairstyling trophy went to that film’s Stephanie Ingram, Linda Dowds and Justin Raleigh for helping transform Chastain into Tammy Faye Bakker.

There are plenty of things to find unsettling and downright terrifying about "No Country For Old Men" antagonist Anton Chigurh. There's the disturbing grin he eagerly flashes to hide murderous intent and his brutal efficiency with a captive bolt stunner. Not to mention his unfeeling disregard for human life. For these reasons, it's probably no surprise that Javier Bardem's portrayal was even deemed the most realistic of a clinical psychopath in a film by the Journal of Forensic Sciences.
That all goes to explain why the actor nabbed an Oscar for the performance, and also why Chigurh sits at the top of the list of people you wouldn't want hunting you for stealing two million dollars in a drug deal gone awry. Yet one of the character's most striking features has nothing to do with his ruthless demeanor: his haircut. I've heard Chigurh's hairdo described as both a symbol...

Technology makes the world go round.
And, in recent years, smart assistants have become more popular. They can operate your home, order Ubers, and so much more things that make life a little bit more exciting.
After neXt Season 1 Episode 1, I'm more apprehensive about saying, "Hey Google." For that reason alone, "File #1" was a success.
My biggest concern ahead of the series premiere was that the plot was not going to be believable, but given the technological advances in recent years, it wouldn't be that surprising for something like neXt to attempt to take over the world.
Indeed, 2020 has been one of the worst years, and all we need next is for a psycho, artificial intelligence to run rampant. It would be par for the course during this trying year.

When John Slattery is standing in front of a giant screen, “neXt” is a pretty engaging television show. So it’s no surprise the new Fox drama chooses that way to open its pilot episode, with Slattery’s tech billionaire Paul LeBlanc speaking to a gathered group about the impending perils of innovation and how we’re all basically doomed.
What follows is a TV thriller centered on the hunt for an algorithmic super-intelligence; a self-learning program that the series’ main characters believe is murdering people to protect its secrets. In the process, “neXt” is a serial killer story and a detective show and a prophet of catastrophe, delivered together in one-hour chunks.
LeBlanc’s alarm-sounding eventually weaves its way into the work of Shea Salazar (Fernanda Andrade), leader of an FBI cybercrime task force based out of Portland. Along with a main trio of fellow investigators and experts, Salazar...

There's no denying that Covid-19 has done a lot to our regularly scheduled entertainment.
Shows have been postponed, series finales have been delayed, and there have been many curious casualties that have fallen under the Coronavirus ax.
But there is also a silver lining, in that we get to see some programming this fall that would have either aired earlier or not at all on US broadcast.
neXt is one of those shows that got juggled around. The limited series was originally scheduled to run during the summer, but with a full series ready to go and other shows only slowly getting back to business, it was saved for fall, and folks, I think you're going to like it.

If you weren’t already afraid of the possibility of artificial intelligence turning on us, then Fox’s new John Slattery sci-fi series about a superintelligence called neXt, and aptly titled “neXt,” might be what gets you to that point.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from the series premiere, which airs Tuesday at 9/8c, you’ll see Slattery’s Silicon Valley pioneer character, Paul LeBlanc, explain to Special Agent Shea Salazar (Fernanda Andrade) how it would be possible for an A.I. to make itself “smart enough to hunt down and kill someone.” Which is apparently what happened to a friend of hers, but she’s not ready to buy what he’s selling — just yet.
The fictional A.I. at the center of “neXt” is, well, fictional, but that doesn’t mean you won’t hear many references to its real-life counterparts, like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri.

After decades of speculative fiction about technology coming to get us, “Next” wants to take it to a whole new level. What if, rather than a single piece of tech, an extremely advanced artificial intelligence program became so smart that it could hack the entire plugged-in world? What if it wasn’t just your phone coming to get you, but absolutely anything with an internet connection? In 2020, that’s a terrifying prospect, and one “Next” exploits with intense, frantic urgency.
From “24” producer Manny Coto, Fox’s “ten-episode event series” wastes no time unfolding this technological nightmare to everyone’s mounting alarm. Silicon Valley innovator Paul LeBlanc (John Slattery) immediately recognizes the malicious AI system (called “neXt”) as the threat it is, though he has trouble at first convincing FBI cyber crimes agent Shea Salazar (Fernanda Andrade) to take it seriously. After all, neXt is effectively invisible — and therefore very tricky...

It looks like viewers will need to wait much longer for some of the highly-anticipated shows that were set to air during the 2019-20 season.
Deadline is reporting that Fox dramas Filthy Rich and NeXt are now targeting fall launches as the network plans to make sure it has enough content for the 2020-21 TV season.
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, there's no telling when production on TV shows can start back up, and both of the above shows are already in the can.
Putting the network's marketing muscle behind two new shows that are already completed is a good idea, as opposed to airing reruns.
The outlet notes that the network will have a full slate of animated comedies. The animated shows typically enter production several months in advance, and can continue to be made during the coronavirus pandemic.

In what is a first for Hollywood in the ever expanding global health crisis, a member of the production team for Fox’s upcoming neXt has tested positive for the ever expanding coronavirus.

With the individual in question seemingly a Californian who traveled to the Windy City for the show, that precaution extends to the concerns of one of Hollywood’s leading guilds.

Manny Coto’s new Fox drama “Next” centers on a super intelligent A.I. and the few people who know it not only exists but has gone rogue and is out to harm people. In that way, the first season is one of a manhunt — but for an entity that can’t be physically seen and is something that many don’t believe even exists.
“It’s a chase through the season of trying to find this thing and destroy it before it gets to a place where it becomes unstoppable but along the way the A.I. is striking back at our characters,” he said at the Fox Television Critics Assn. press tour panel for the show Tuesday.

When 94-year-old Amy Craton accepted her diploma earlier this week, she become one of the world’s oldest college graduates — and she couldn’t be more proud of the big accomplishment.
“You can’t live without knowledge!” Craton tells People. “Education is living.”
The grandmother of 12 earned her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English from Southern New Hampshire University’s online program. And Snhu president Paul LeBlanc flew to Craton’s home-state of Hawaii on Monday to present her with the certificate.
Craton donned a traditional lei for the graduation celebration, where friends and family gathered to support her.

Years ago, I asked The Walking Dead’s zombie makeup maestro Greg Nicotero for his fake blood recipe. He said, “I’ve always based my blood on Dick Smith’s formula. His blood has always been the staple of the industry. It’s one of those things where if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

He turned Marlon Brando into the bulldog-jowled Vito Corleone for The Godfather, Dustin Hoffman into a 121-year-old for Little Big Man, and Linda Blair into a profane, cracked-faced, demon-possessed teen in The Exorcist. In 1985, along with Paul LeBlanc, he won a best makeup Oscar for his work on Amadeus, in which he aged F. Murray Abraham's Salieri. Dick Smith was one of the great Hollywood makeup men, and he has died at the age of 92, according to protégé Rick Baker. Below we've embedded a 13-minute video in which Smith talks about his work on The Exorcist, including his construction of the dummy whose head-turning capability resulted in one of the most famous images in American movies, as well a detailed two-part look at his process.

James Earl Jones, Mary J. Blige James Earl Jones, Oprah Winfrey, and Dick Smith were honored at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Governors Awards on Saturday, November 12, at the ballroom adjacent to Hollywood & Highland's Kodak Theatre. Jones, a Best Actor nominee for The Great White Hope (1970), and Smith, Oscar-winning makeup artist for Amadeus (with Paul LeBlanc), were the recipients of the Honorary Award, the Academy's equivalent of the Career or Lifetime Achievement Award. Winfrey was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her work alongside various charities. Jones, 80, had to accept his Honorary Oscar from London — via a pre-taped ceremony — where he is starring opposite Vanessa Redgrave in a stage production of Driving Miss Daisy. "I am gobsmacked at this improbable moment in my life," Jones remarked. "You cannot be an actor like I am and not have been in some of the worst movies like I have.

Texas is known for being flat, minimalistic but still incredibly beautiful and that's certainly the theme of the posters for the 2011 Rolling Roadshow. This year, instead of going all across the country, the Alamo Drafthouse is keeping things close to home as they'll travel across the Lone Star State and show Texas films set in Texas [1]. Films such as Blood Simple, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Searchers, Red River and more. The posters premiered on Apple.com and, much like happened last year with Olly Moss [2], this year they were all done by one artist: Jason Munn. We've got all the images and schedule after the jump. Thanks to Apple.com for these images [3]. Last year, Olly Moss went for a specific theme and this year is the same, one artist, one theme. [gallery columns="2"] And here's the schedule with descriptions from the press release. June 3 – The Searchers in Fort Parker, Texas...
