Espn is sending Jemele Hill to the bench: The SportsCenter anchor has been suspended for two weeks for violating the network’s social-media guidelines.
The violation stems from a series of tweets Hill sent on Sunday advocating a boycott of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys after owner Jerry Jones said he wouldn’t tolerate his team’s players not standing for the national anthem:
Don't ask Dak, Dez & other Cowboys players to protest. A more powerful statement is if you stop watching and buying their merchandise.

Or, how about not patronizing the advertisers who support the Cowboys?...

Susan Bro, mother of Charlottesville victim Heather Heyer, attended the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, presenting the Best Fight Against the System award in honor of her late daughter.
Heyer was killed on Aug. 12 when a man drove his car into a crowd of demonstrators who were peacefully protesting a “Unite the Right” march, during which white nationalists and neo-Nazis roamed the streets of Charlottesville chanting “White Lives Matter.”
“Only 15 days ago, my daughter Heather was killed as she protested racism,” Bro began. “I miss her, but I know she’s here tonight. I’ve been deeply moved to see people across the world,...

A lot of people aren’t happy with Espn’s decision to reassign play-by-play broadcaster Robert Lee — so that he will no longer cover a football game at the University of Virginia next month because his name is similar to that of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. And they’re tweeting out their dismay. Espn’s Lee is Asian American, and folks on Twitter are saying the move to reassign him is racist in itself, pointing out the irony of “punishing” an American of Asian background for the sins of a white man during the Civil War. Espn has reassigned play-by-play broadcaster Robert Lee so that he will no longer cover a football game at the University of Virginia next month because his name is similar to that of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Espn’s Lee, who is Asian American, is not related to the Confederate general. But the network responded after potential removal of a Robert E. Lee statue near the campus of University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, sparked a series of violent protests by white supremacists and neo-Nazis earlier this month. Asian sports announcer Robert Lee — not to be confused with Confederate General Robert E. Lee, who died in 1870 — will no longer call the University of Virginia’s first college football game of the season, Espn has announced.
