Jim Carrey has revealed that Tommy Lee Jones detested working with him so much on Batman Returns that when they crossed paths in a restaurant, his co-star shook with rage and confessed his hatred for him.

In the past, we’ve talked at length about the great stuff DC’s been doing with their new Young Animal imprint. Basically, Gerard Way and company have taken characters and concepts readers are familiar with in outrageous new directions, creating a line of books that feel altogether different from what we’d normally get via DC proper, or even Vertigo.
To be honest, if I were to personally recommend any title from this initiative, it’d have to be that of Mother Panic. I say that because not only have I found it to be the most enjoyable, but also because it’s incredibly easy to pick up and inviting to the average reader.
Odds are that you’ve read a Batman comic or two at some point in your life, therefore there’s a fair chance you’ll feel right at home here. In a way, Gotham City is a universe unto itself,...

It’s a good time to fight like a girl. The new Wonder Woman movie is a big hit. Everyone from Billy Tucci to my mom seems to like it. Fox News managed to complain about the level of patriotism in the movie, but whatever; every party needs a pooper.
I thought it was great fun, and yesterday’s Biographic strip in sundry newspapers taught me something I didn’t remember. It turns out Wonder Woman’s first animated appearance was on an episode of The Brady Kids. It predated Superfriends by one year! This show was a spin-off of the Brady Bunch series. Even as a young fan, I remember watching this cartoon was pretty painful. At that time, I preferred Marcia Brady to Wonder Woman… but, hey, it’s still cool that it actually happened.

Billy Dee Williams is a man familiar with losing out on iconic parts. In 1989, Williams famously played Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s first Batman movie, on the assumption that it would lead to a role as the villainous Two-Face somewhere down the line. Instead, when the franchise finally got around to the character (after a detour into Penguin-land for Batman Returns), Tommy Lee Jones took on the bifurcated role. Now, the actor is watching as Donald Glover takes over the part of Lando Calrissian, the smooth-talking space pirate that has been a core part of Williams’ public identity for the past 30 years, in the upcoming Han Solo. Needless to say, he’s feeling ambivalent about the change.
“I don’t know…I just see myself as Lando,” Williams told The Hollywood Reporter, in a recent interview intended to promote his upcoming chance to finally play Two-Face in ...

How to word this properly? William Shatner is known for his distinctive acting style, unusual vocal intonation, and very singular form of gravitas. Because of this, he doesn’t fit easily into all movies or TV shows. But there is a subset of projects in which his participation in an absolute boon. And the sequel to the upcoming Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders is probably one of them. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 85-year-old former Star Trek star will be joining Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin), and possibly Julie Newmar (Catwoman) in the sound booth to lend voices to the animated continuation of ABC’s late-’60s camp classic TV show, Batman.
Shatner will be imbuing the arch-villain Harvey Dent/Two-Face with his sonorous articulations. The facially scarred, chance-obsessed criminal has been portrayed onscreen numerous times before, by actors such as Tommy Lee Jones in 1995’s ...

I think the new Jason Bourne movie had me when, early in the film, Julia Stiles’ returning Nicky unpacks what looks like a Russian Zx Spectrum 48k and starts using it to hack an otherwise impenetrable computer network. I’d like to think she has a quick go on Manic Miner on it when the cameras were off.
Still, by then we’d already had a ‘previously on Jason Bourne recap’, giving a brief overview of the first three films in the series. And we’d had further evidence that director Paul Greengrass – returning with Matt Damon, after the pair (wisely) skipped The Bourne Legacy – has an unmatched ability to make gazing at computer screens the most thrilling and tense thing in the world. For the umpteenth time in Greengrass-directed movies, I nearly yanked the armrests off my seat, as little graphics blipped across a monitor.

The Light Between Oceans Trailer Thrusts Michael Fassbender And Alicia Vikander Into A Moral Dilemma
Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, the so-hot-right-now stars that will soon be headlining their own video game adaptations in Assassin’s Creed and Tomb Raider, play two tortured souls in the latest trailer for Derek Cianfrance’s Oscar hopeful, The Light Between Oceans.
Taking up residence on a remote island off the coast of Australia, Fassbender and Vikander’s couple Tom and Isabel live in a state of relative bliss, though cracks begin to spread across their iron-clad relationship as their hopes of raising a child are quickly dashed by a stillborn and numerous miscarriages.
Thinking their prayers have been answered, a rickety boat washes up on shore carrying the body of a dead man and a vulnerable baby girl. Rushing to her aid, the pair decide to raise the child as their own, though a chance meeting with her true mother – played by Rachel Weisz – acts as a stern reality check.

The quality of Batman’s live-action adventures has been erratic, to say the least. Fans have had to endure a lot over the years, from Tommy Lee Jones’ baffling pantomime-style Two-Face to the disappointment of Marion Cotillard’s Talia al Ghul.
While Tim Burton’s Batman gave the Joker a detailed backstory and had the hero kill bad guys, it was faithful to the comics in other respects and featured the dark edge fans had lapped up. Schumacher’s films, of course, have been critiqued far and wide, while Christopher Nolan’s films took the character into darker territory than even Burton’s had, bringing a more ‘realistic’ tone to the Dark Knight.
However, Nolan’s films swerved many elements from the comic books. For example, the costume was black again, with none of the colour seen on the page, and the villains were re-imagined to suit a...

DC Comics has released four great variant covers that feature art inspired by the movie posters for Warner Bros. films. This is all part of a bigger plan from the comic publisher in which every month they will have a theme for variant covers that will be created and released. The month of March in 2015 will focus on the movies of WB, and the four covers you see here are the first of many to come. They were based on the movies 300, Harry Potter, The Fugitive, and Super Fly.

Gal Gadot made headlines when she was cast as a Wonder Woman in Zach Snyder's upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I had my reservations (and I still do to some extent), but I must say she's looks great in the pic of her in costume as the Amazonian warrior.
Until Dawn of Justice Gadot was primarily known for her role as Gisele in the last three Fast & Furious films.
Today The Hollywood Reporter announces that Gadot has been cast alongside Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones in Criminals. Gadot will play Reynolds wife in the film.
From THR:
The film centers on a dead CIA operatives memories, secrets and skills, which were implanted into a dangerous prison inmate (Costner) in hopes that he will stop a diabolical plot.
Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) will direct.

DC Comics will be releasing a wave of one-shot steampunk variant covers for many of their current New 52 titles in February, featuring some impressive art from artists such as Dave Johnson, Klaus Janson, Howard Chaykin and more. At first we we’re hoping that DC was cooking up a line-wide Elseworlds-style event (eg, Gotham by Gaslight), but that doesn’t appear to be the case after all. We’re now hoping this may be a test from the publisher to see how many fans would like to see more of these characters placed in a Victorian-era setting. There certainly seems to be a growing number of steampunk-inspired cosplayers at comic book conventions across the country – perhaps the publisher has taken notice.
You can check out the full list of all the titles getting the steampunk treatment along with previews of the covers below.

While it’s highly unlikely that the following casting choices would ever happen, or that all these characters would be appearing alongside each other, it sure is fun to dream.

It's a fact of life for an actor/writer/director after doing a movie: Just before the film debuts, you meet with the press and answer questions like, "What was it like to work with Matthew Modine?" and "Before playing a mime, did you meet with any mimes to prepare?" It's a part of the biz, so to speak, and the process is generally unremarkable.

There’s always a lot of talk leading up to the big day about who will win what awards. We try to make our predictions based on trends from the past, but we can’t help to be swayed by our own personal opinions. Some movies truly strike a chord with us, while others aren’t interesting at all. Furthermore, Oscar films are usually heavy in the drama department and therefore they aren’t always the easiest or most entertaining movies to watch.
That’s why we’re here. Here is your guide to the nominees of this year’s Academy Awards. I’ve compiled the following brief summaries, interesting facts, and critical reviews for all these films and people.

Okay folks, it's crunch time. Have you submitted your Oscar ballot yet? There's big money on the line (at least a hundy we hope, right?).
As we do every year on NextMovie, we're handicapping the Oscar races to give you a leg up on your friends, family and coworkers when entering your high-stakes pool, which as we all know is as much about the glory as the greenbacks (freaking Al from finance still hasn't gotten that smirk off of his face for calling Cotillard over Christie in 2008; get over yourself, Al).
Our usual disclaimers: We do not condone gambling, unless you're in Vegas or on a reservation. Good luck!
(And for a trusty second opinion, check out Joe Reid's Oscar predictions on Film.com.)

Emergency: We're less than two weeks from the Oscars, and I still have an entire Academy history to lament. Let's give props to the ten actors who've deserved an Academy Award most, yet have found themselves empty-handed. I've ranked them according to how much I've wept rethinking each slight.
10. Alec Baldwin
Yes, I'm trying to fix the gaping hole in my heart where 30 Rock once lived, but I also bring up the name of Jack Donaghy's maker for a pertinent reason -- he is a dynamite screen presence. If his chilling "Always be closing" monologue in Glengarry Glen Ross weren't scary and bad-ass enough, he's proved himself capable And cuddly in Working Girl, The Aviator, The Departed, and The Cooler, where he notched his first and only Oscar nomination. Surely the man who racked up six straight Emmy nominations for lovingly patronizing Liz Lemon should win one damn Oscar for bringing the heat onscreen.

Nominated: Beasts of the Southern Wild; Zero Dark Thirty; Amour; Argo; Life of Pi; Les Misérables; Lincoln; Silver Linings Playbook; Django Unchained

Will win: Lincoln
Should win: Lincoln
This is one of the best ever Oscar lineups, films of every kind from a California-bred spaghetti western to a British musical of a French novel, from death quietly contemplated in a Parisian flat to a killing violently perpetrated in a Pakistani compound. Lincoln, the film I most admire and expect to win, is a work of dignity and seriousness that speaks to Obama's America and the world at large about the great issues of democracy and human rights, how they were fought for by...

The coming weeks will tell us a lot about what to expect when it comes to the 2013 Oscar Awards as there are certainly several possibilities one could float, but in order to get to the end we must start somewhere so after this morning's announcement of the 2013 Oscar nominations, I have updated my entire batch of Oscar predictions. I am currently considering possible scenarios as to how this all could play out. The word "surprised" never really seems to fit with the Oscar nominations because, really, nothing should surprise us about the Academy when it comes to their selections. Yet, this morning did offer some seriously interesting choices that open up the race for a few, very likely scenarios. The first two scenarios have Lincoln winning, but winning in different ways, the second two offer up a couple of scenarios recent history have told us are not so far fetched.

The Official Best Picture and Best Director pages have been posted. I'm brainstorming some way to make the charts less static this year so you can enjoy returning to them whenever the mood strikes you. So now that the pages are up, you can vote on your choice of best (not your prediction) and read about the nominees. Let's spitball fun facts!
Box Office
You mean to tell me a sober drama about old age and death hasn't outgrossed The Avengers?
I believe Amour is the lowest grossing Best Picture nominee ever (with under $350,000 in the can at the Us box office as of this writing). At least for now! Box Office Mojo used to have before and after nomination box office gross charts for the Best Picture nominees of each year though I can't seem to find them now. The lowest previous pre-nomination gross I can personally recall was...

2012 was full of memorable movie moments. Moments that moved us, made us think, inspired laughter & tears and moments that surprised. When was the last time Christopher Walken really moved you? When has a Bond film looked so amazing? Were you also concerned when you heard about the casting of Anne Hathaway in both the new Batman movie and Les MISÉRABLES, one of the most beloved musicals of all time? And when was the last time you knew the outcome of a fact-based film but were on the edge of your seat during the climactic scene nonetheless? And what movie moments charmed you the most from 2012 and which ones will you remember for years to come?
In a countdown to 2013, here are some of my memorable moments and I believe at least a couple of yours:

Los Angeles — James Bond's "Skyfall" has extended its worldwide box-office rule to North America, hauling in a franchise-record $87.8 million in its first weekend at U.S. theaters.
Adding in $2.2 million from Thursday night previews at IMAX and other large-format theaters, "Skyfall" has taken in $90 million domestically, according to studio estimates Sunday.
That lifts the worldwide total for "Skyfall" to $518.6 million since it began rolling out overseas in late October. Internationally, the 23rd Bond flick added $89 million this weekend to raise its overseas revenue to $428.6 million.
The third installment starring Daniel Craig as British super-spy Bond, "Skyfall" outdid the $67.5 million U.S. debut of 2008's "Quantum of Solace," the franchise's previous best opening. "Skyfall" more than doubled the $40.8 million debut of Craig's first Bond film, 2006's "Casino Royale."
"Skyfall" already has passed the $407.7 million overseas total for "Quantum of Solace" and by Monday, it will top the $432.2 million international haul for "Casino Royale.

We haven’t long said goodbye to the last awards season, but already next year’s hopefuls are starting to make themselves known.
Here is a list of ten movies in 2012 to watch out for – with all the ingredients of an Oscar-nominated film, we’ll be hearing much more about them in the coming months.
1: Lincoln (UK release, 25th January 2013)
Although not released internationally until January, it just creeps into the Oscar eligibility with a late December release in the States. The Civil War Biopic is directed by Spielberg, scored by John Williams, with a cast including Daniel Day-Lewis as Abe Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
If you want to place an early bet on the 2013 Best Picture winner, this is it.
2: Les Miserables (UK release, 11th January 2013)

How wide will the wings of "The Dark Knight Rises" spread? Well, let's put it this way: when "The Dark Knight" opened in 2008, it was the number one movie at the box office for four straight weeks, and stayed in the top ten for 11 weeks on its way to a $533 million domestic haul that helped push it over a billion worldwide. And it's probably pretty safe to assume that Batman will dominate long and hard once again this summer.
So, likely noting that, and seeing how "The Avengers" was number one for three weeks, and is still in the top ten after eight weeks, Universal has now pushed "The Bourne Legacy" back one week to August 10th. Or rather, three weeks away from "The Dark Knight Rises" instead of two. It's a smart play and also puts 'Bourne' on a weekend where it will have a bit more room to...

It's almost hard to believe, but with the conclusion of Sunday's Academy Awards, this year's awards race is now officially over -- and the race to the 2013 Oscars has officially begin.
While it's obviously premature to guess who will be walking up to the podium next year to accept their golden man, we figured you'd like an idea of the likely contenders. If these films we've assembled as our early (way early) 2013 Oscar predictions are anything to go by, next year's race promises to be a solid one. Bring them on!

Hollywoodnews.com: It was revealed this morning that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will receive the “Hollywood Breakthrough Actor Award” at this year’s 15th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards for his heartfelt performance in the film “50/50.” This year’s ceremony, presented by Starz Entertainment, is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
In Jonathan Levine’s film, which opens in theaters this Friday, Sept. 30, Gordon-Levitt plays Adam, an NPR editor diagnosed with cancer. The title refers to Adam’s odds of survival, though he receives tremendous support from his best friend (Seth Rogen), his pretty therapist (Anna Kendrick) and his worried mother (Anjelica Huston).
Gordon-Levitt will be on hand that evening to accept the award in person. His bio is below:

This morning's first batch of news items begins with the proposed 300 sequel and moves to more Dark Knight Rises rumors, talk of Darren Aronofsky's Noah finding distribution, more casting in Spielberg's Lincoln and G.I. The sequel to 300, which was previously expected to be titled Xerxes, is still moving forward, though under a new title. The film will now be called 300: Battle of Artemisia and with Zack Snyder busy with Man of Steel a new helmer will be taking over and apparently Noam Murro (Smart People) and Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, House of Wax) are the two directors in contention.
If you ask me, Collet-Serra's visual sense seems to match up with Snyder's a bit more than Murro, though I have only seen Murro's dramedy Smart People, which doesn't really compare. That film,...

Renowned historian Doris Kearns Goodwin named her best selling volume on the Lincoln Presidency, "Team of Rivals," after the incredible group of advisers that the 16th President put together and relied on to win the Civil War. As Steven Spielberg assembles his cast for his upcoming Lincoln movie -- which will be based on Kearns Goodwin's book -- one might call his group the "Team of Awesome."
With Daniel Day Lewis already signed on to play President Lincoln and Sally Field his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, Spielberg is close to adding Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones, among others, to the cast.
The Hollywood Reporter relays that Gordon-Levitt would play Robert Todd Lincoln, the President's oldest son, while Jones's role would be that of Thaddeus Stevens, an abolitionist Congressman from Pennsylvania.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who wowed audiences in the indie "500 Days of Summer," then turned in a solid performance in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster "Inception," has a career that is -- for lack of a less trite term -- on fire.
On Thursday (May 5), DreamWorks announced the 30-year-old actor is joining a high-wattage line-up for "Lincoln." Gordon-Levitt will play the president's oldest son, Robert. He'll be joined on-screen by Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader and the imminently watchable John Hawkes.
Gordon-Levitt is also gearing up to take on an as-yet-amorphous role in "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises," scheduled to begin shooting later this month in Pittsburgh.
"I am so excited to be working with ['Inception' director Christopher Nolan] again," Gordon-Levitt tells Zap2it. "He's making a movie from his heart. Even though Chris makes these gargantuan movies, he manages to maintain that purity of storytelling. I think that's a big part of...

Comic book and animation fans are mourning the loss of writer and animation producer Dwayne McDuffie who tragically passed on the day his latest script, an adaptation for DC Animated’s latest film, All Star Superman hits stores on DVD and Blu-Ray. The sad news was first reported by Comic Book Resources who learned that McDuffie died from complications from a surgical procedure Monday evening.
McDuffie broke onto the comic scene with Marvel Comics in the late 80′s writing a variety of books including Damage Control and Deathlok in 1990. He also had notable runs on X-o Manowar, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Fantastic Four, and before pursuing a career in animation McDuffie had a run of Justice League of America cut too soon. His relationship with DC Comics ended on a sour note, but it would not stop him from working with these characters again for Warner Brothers Animation.
