It's hard to imagine a show or movie in the John Wick universe without John Wick, but that's exactly what "The Continental" is. The new three-part Peacock series is technically a prequel to the John Wick films, but it's entirely centered on Winston Scott, played in the original movies by Ian McShane. "The Continental" stars Colin Woodell as Winston and explores his origin story, tracing how he came to run a hotel that provides sanctuary for off-duty assassins and other criminals.
Based on the timeline alone, it's technically impossible Reeves could appear as John Wick in "The Continental," since his character is a child in the 1970s. As fun as it would be to see Reeves play a teenager, the 59-year-old actor has passed that threshold at this point.
It's also unlikely we'll see a young version of John in the show. Thanks to the comics and "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum,...

Washington, Sep 10 (Ians) The ‘scariest economics paper of 2022’ has warned that a high unemployment rate will be necessary to combat inflation and to bring inflation down to 2 per cent, the US may need to tolerate unemployment of 6.5 per cent for at least two years.
The paper from the Brookings Institution by Johns Hopkins macroeconomist Larry Ball with co-authors Daniel Leigh and Prachi Mishra of the International Monetary Fund (Imf) found that “this unemployment path returns inflation to near the Fed’s target only under optimistic assumptions”.
“Under less benign assumptions about these factors, the inflation rate remains well above target unless unemployment rises by more than the Fed projects,” the paper said.
In a following opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal, Jason Furman, former chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Obama, called this “the scariest economic paper of 2022”.

Production designers build immersive worlds for audiences to vicariously live in, but the fulfilling part of the job may be before any sketches or models.
“What I hope in my design is I get to learn something every time,” “Westworld’s” Howard Cummings said on Gold Derby’s Meet the Btl Experts: Production Design panel (watch above). “When you do the research, certainly that is really fun because I know so much random stuff — I know how fishermen store fish and things like that or unfortunately things like mortuaries and prisons. You don’t get jobs like that in the real world that you’re just constantly learning. For me, the thing I love the most about it is the learning of it all.”
“Couples Therapy’s” Nora Mendis concurs: “I just love doing all the research and building the world from scratch. It’s just fun. You just have...

“Godfather of Harlem” was a “completely unexpected” gig for Dan Leigh, but it had one thing that immediately made the production designer come onboard.
“I got a call. It was like, ‘Can you meet?’ The meeting was online, but it just kind of clicked because of my love of New York, my love of shooting in New York, in particular the history of New York, which is extremely important to ‘Godfather of Harlem,’” Leigh told Gold Derby at our Meet the Btl Experts: Production Design panel (watch above). “It is very mixed up with real characters from the mid-1960s, political, music, social, gangsters. And it’s kind of a tapestry of people who live a very high life and people who really have very little and everybody in between. That kind of New York history is extremely important to me.”

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...
