True crime genre is getting more and more popular each day and there’s no secret why: gripping stories about things that seem impossible in real life. However, what makes them even more exciting for the viewers is the fact that what is shown on screen has actually happened in reality, and that just makes people lose their minds.
One of the recently released true crime dramas is Netflix’s Baby Reindeer. The miniseries tells the gripping story of the performer Richard Gadd, who at his young age was harassed by a female stalker.
The story is powerful and already got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but here we have 5 more jaw-dropping series that follow real-life terrifying stories.
1. When They See Us (2019)
When They See Us is just 3% short of a perfect score, but that means nothing in this case because the series is considered the best true crime of all time.

Margaret Qualley is no longer going to star in Hulu’s limited series about Amanda Knox, Variety has confirmed.
The untitled series was announced in March with Qualley set to star and executive produce. She has reportedly exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. The role will now be recast.
This is not the first time Hulu has lost its lead actress in a limited series based on a real person. Kate McKinnon was once attached to play Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in what would become “The Dropout,” the role that was eventually played by Amanda Seyfried. Seyfried would go on to win an Emmy for her work on the show.
Hulu has ordered eight one-hour episodes of the show. The official description states that it is “based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.

Exclusive: Margaret Qualley has pulled out of playing Amanda Knox in Hulu’s upcoming limited series for scheduling reasons.

Recently seen in Poor Things, she is currently filming Honey Don’t! and has other features lined up.
The untitled Hulu limited series from writer Kj Steinberg and 20th Television in association with The Littlefield Company, was officially greenlighted last month with Qualley on board to star and executive produce. The role is now being recast. The development won’t impact production plans as the eight-episode project is scheduled to start filming in October.
The limited series covers Knox’s 16-year journey to set herself free after being wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher.

Even by the HFPA’s eccentric standards, Todd Haynes’ May December is a wild card in the Best Musical or Comedy category. But it does feature elements of both, in a deceptively dark story that harks back to the days of Hollywood’s self-imposed censorship code, when ingenious directors found sensitive and intelligent ways to address taboo subjects in mainstream movies. Here, the inspiration is the real-life case of Mary Kay Letourneau, a 35-year-old married teacher who, in 1997, seduced a pupil and was sentenced to prison for it, twice. A year after her release in 2004, claiming their love was “eternal and endless”, Letourneau married the boy, then 21. That wedding, and their subsequent life together, was covered, flatteringly, by the media. May December is not their story, but it does address two key points. What was she thinking. And how did the media become so complicit?

It was only a matter of time before pop culture got to the business of relitigating the Bling Ring case. The story of the Southern California teens who broke into the homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Audrina Patridge, and Lindsay Lohan, stealing millions of dollars in jewelry, clothes, and other goods, has all the ingredients of recently re-examined narratives surrounding Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson, and Monica Lewinsky: celebrity culture, a media apparatus intent on rubbernecking, and a judgmental public.

UTA has signed content creator Jake Shane for representation in all areas.
The talent agency will help Shane as a social media creator cross over into acting and live comedy, among other traditional business streams. He is best known for octopusslover8 on TikTok.
Originally offering a fun way to share his love of his favorite food, octopus, Shane took advantage of the direct access to his fans and followers and began offering improv-style reenactment videos. After catching the attention of celebrities, Shane has amassed over 6 billion views and 2 million followers, and in a short period of time.
That following grew in Feb. 2023 when Shane branched out from his octopus critique and posted a viral one-man comedy skit where he played Bill Clinton denying his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. That took his followers from 100,000 eyeballs to over 1 million fans on TikTok.
Shane now has a total following of nearly 2.7 million across social media platforms.

As Elon Musk continues to ring in sweeping changes at X, the exodus from the platform formerly known as Twitter is reshaping the social web. Decentralized platform Bluesky experienced a sudden surge of registrations after Musk announced that X’s blocking feature will be relegated to direct messages.
Currently, X users can use the block to prevent specific accounts from following them, viewing their tweets, or contacting them directly. In a recent spate of posts, Musk said that blocking users “makes no sense.” He plans to restrict the block to DMs moving forward.

Elon Musk says the block button will be the next feature on X, formerly known as Twitter, to be removed.
“Block is going to be deleted as a ‘feature’, except for DMs,” the X owner posted Friday, in response to a tweet about blocking compared to muting. “Makes no sense.”
As it stands, users can still block other accounts on the platform, which prohibits the blocked account from seeing that user’s tweets, contacting them or being able to follow them. These features may be helpful in the case of online harassment or other extreme online behavior.
If the block option were to be removed, Musk suggested that users can mute other accounts instead. This option means the user who does the muting cannot see the other account’s posts on their timeline, but does not prohibit them from following you or replying to tweets.

Netflix and the production company behind Afflicted have settled a suit brought by subjects of the docuseries who said they were defamed when the show misrepresented their chronic illnesses.
Both sides moved to drop the suit, according to a request for dismissal filed on June 6. Details of the deal weren’t disclosed.
The settlement comes after a state appeals court last year turned down a bid from Netflix and Doc Shop Productions to overturn a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge’s order declining to dismiss the suit. The subjects sued in 2019 alleging they were “duped into participating in a salacious reality television program that questioned the existence of chronic illnesses” and portrayed them as “lazy, crazy, hypochondriacs.”
The series explores people suffering from and attempting to treat chronic and sometimes unexplainable illnesses like wifi sensitivity and mold toxicity. While some episodes seriously examined the conditions, others advanced narratives that the conditions were actually psychosomatic.

When Scandal wrapped its run in 2018, Shonda Rhimes was against the idea of revisiting the series.
However, it seems that absence makes the heart grow fonder.
During an interview with IMDb, Rhimes said that the character she wants to revisit is Olivia Pope.
"Olivia Pope, I like that character so much," Rhimes said.
"Even when she was bad, I liked that character so much -- she's very interesting."
Kerry Washington toplined Scandal for seven seasons on ABC.
If you watch Scandal online, you know the sudsy drama focused on a Washington D.C. fixer who finds herself wrapped up in the world of politics.
The series was well-known for its wild twists, romances, and stellar acting.
Loosely based on the real-life lawyer Judy Smith, who represented Monica Lewinsky during the Clinton scandal, Scandal started with middling ratings.
However, thanks to word-of-mouth, it became one of the biggest shows on TV.

Did anyone in the Trojan Horse get claustrophobic on the way to Troy? Was Marie Antoinette worried about getting canceled when she said, “Let them eat cake”? What if people got drafted into World War I via spam text? Kerry Washington played antihero Olivia Pope across seven seasons of ABC‘s Scandal, and just because the political drama ended its run in 2018 doesn’t mean we won’t ever see the character again. In an interview with IMDb, the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes was asked which of her characters she’d like to revive for a current or future Shondaland show. Rhimes didn’t have to think twice about it, immediately answering, “Oh, Olivia Pope. I like that character so much, even when she was bad. I like that character so much; she’s very interesting.” Loosely based on the real-life lawyer Judy Smith, who represented Monica Lewinsky during the Clinton scandal, Pope was a crisis manager based in Washington, D.C., who ran her own firm, Olivia Pope & Associates, which specialized in fixing political situations and scandals. Washington played the adult version of the character, while Yara Shahidi...

Shonda Rhimes has created many iconic characters throughout her career and she says that Olivia Pope from Scandal is one that she would like to bring back.

Bill Maher and his guests channeled Salt-n-Pepa Friday night on HBO’s Real Time, as the theme of the night was “Let’s Talk About Sex.” Specifically, who is a woman, who has the right to determine a woman’s health and athletic requirements, and whether it’s a smart move to go after Donald Trump over sex-related crimes.
This week’s panel discussion included Democratic Congresswoman from California Katie Porter, and host of “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Piers Morgan.
Maher raised the hot-button issued of Dylan Mulvaney, the transgender Bud Light and Nike influencer whose endorsement deals have become a polarizing issue in the last week. “Why the overreaction to this?” Maher asked. “Is there something else to this story?” He added that a lot of Americans are angry because they feel “they’ve had an agenda shoved down their throat. Doja Cat has reacted to losing her blue tick on Twitter.
The social media platform is currently in the process of removing verified checkmarks from legacy accounts that won’t pay a fee of $8 for Twitter Blue.
When a fan noticed Doja Cat’s missing blue tick, telling her that “it’s over” for her, the “Woman” singer replied, saying: “Only fans have blue ticks.”
She added: “Having a blue tick now means there’s a higher chance that you’re a complete loser and that you’re desperate for validation from famous people.”
After taking over Twitter, Elon Musk announced that he was launching a “Blue” paid subscription service for users who want a blue check, and other features after an initial rollout included a wave of parody accounts posing as brands.

Since the earliest days of Twitter, the social media platform has used a blue checkmark to verify the accounts of celebrities, journalists, politicians and other notables, serving as proof that they are who they claim to be.
As of April 1, however, Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, has instituted a new paid service for these verification checkmarks, with users now forced to pony up $8 per month in order for a blue checkmark.
“Starting April 1, 2023, we’ll begin winding down our legacy verification program,” reads a message on Twitter’s help page.

Twitter launched its verification system in 2009 to protect celebrities from impersonation but now, Elon Musk wants everyone to pay for the Blue badge, and the move has not gone well with several celebrities on the platform. Musk now wants everyone to pay $8 a month (Rs 900 in India a month) for verified Blue check marks, and all legacy Blue badges are set to go away any moment.
The White House and The New York Times have already refused to pay for verified Blue with subscription service.
LeBron James, the highest-paid NBA player of all time and earning over $40 million per year, refused to pay Twitter.
“Welp guess my blue check mark will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5,” he posted on the platform.
Actor William Shatner tweeted at Musk: “Now you’re telling me that I have to pay for something you gave me for free?...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” has had many memorable guest judges for its season premiere: Lady Gaga in Season 9, Christina Aguilera in Season 10, Nicki Minaj in Season 12 and Ariana Grande in the currently airing Season 15, to name a few.
But Britney Spears — whose discography has been a lip sync mainstay on the reality competition series (four times in Season 13 alone!) — has yet to make an appearance on the show, despite numerous efforts.
“Of course,” replied “Drag Race” creator and executive producer Fenton Bailey when asked if Spears has been invited to judge. “Many stars are approached for ‘Drag Race.’ And it hasn’t been possible – whether her schedule or people or her own desires, you know?”

The investigative docuseries "The New York Times Presents" has examined some of the most high-profile stories in news and pop culture since its debut in 2019, ranging from Janet Jackson's Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction to the conservatorship of Britney Spears. The latest installment in the series, "Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pellicano," dives into the gritty work of "Hollywood Fixer" Anthony Pellicano, a private investigator that worked for some of Hollywood's top lawyers, musicians, comedians, actors, and more from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
Pellicano's unorthodox and often ruthless methods ultimately led to his downfall. In 2006, he was formally out of the business when he was arrested on charges of conspiring to wiretap and blackmail. After a trial that exposed his covert operation, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2008.

Throughout dozens of interviews in FX’s Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pellicano, one particular description of the whole saga comes up again and again: “It’s like a movie.” And it really is, with its attention-grabbing combination of big money, celebrity scandal and illegal espionage. A drama, perhaps, about the sordid excesses of showbiz. Or one about determined journalists taking a corrupt system to task. Maybe it’s a spy thriller, or a juicy tell-all, or a character study of a villain, or a tragedy about lingering trauma.
Each version of this tale has its undeniable pull, and Sin Eater takes on notes of them all at various points. But if such a multifaceted approach reflects admirable and ambitious intentions, it also scatters its attention — resulting in a gripping docuseries that nevertheless lands more softly than it should.
Directed by John Pappas, Sin Eater is loosely split into two parts.

Long before Andrea Riseborough’s controversial campaign for “To Leslie,” there were the regularly questionable campaign dealings of one Harvey Weinstein. In one instance, Weinstein, who was a friend of the Clintons, even enlisted Bill Clinton’s help for one of the convicted rapist and former producer’s Oscar-nominated dramas.
In an excerpt of Michael Schulman’s “Oscar Wars: A History of Hollywood in Gold, Sweat, and Tears,” a former Miramax staffer revealed that mega-producer Harvey Weinstein called upon then-President Clinton to discuss how to promote Billy Bob Thornton’s “Sling Blade,” set in Clinton’s home state of Arkansas. The 1996 film landed Thornton an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, eventually winning Best Adapted Screenplay for the writer-director-star.

When Ryan White first met Pamela Anderson, she wanted to know all about his mother. “We spent a good 30 minutes talking about my mom,” says the Emmy-nominated director. It was the first thing that surprised him about the Nineties bombshell, who was for a not-so-brief moment in time the most famous person on the planet. Literally. The second surprise was her sense of humour, which, he says, is dark and slapstick. “I really think Pamela has a whole second career in romantic comedies.”
Her big heart and funny bone may not be what made Anderson world-famous, but they are what make the Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story so compelling. Made in collaboration with Anderson, White’s film unspools her life and career as we know it. On the surface, it is a two-hour tour through the big bullet points of both: Playboy, Baywatch, Tommy Lee, sex tape, that campaign...

Despite its title, there is very little mystery to Nicole Newnham’s straightforward but consistently compelling documentary, “The Disappearance of Shere Hite.” Indeed, although the name suggests a potentially-enticing enigma, it takes us down another path entirely.
The story of Shere Hite is very much of a piece with others we’ve seen recently, on subjects both as disparate and — in the way they were treated by press and public — similar as Princess Diana, Monica Lewinsky, Janet Jackson, and Britney Spears. In a decade, someone will undoubtedly make a comparable film exploring whether Meghan Markle’s current attempts to reclaim her narrative were more successful than those of her predecessors.
You may only dimly recognize it today, but from the late 1970s through the late 1980s, Hite’s was a household name. The film brushes (too) swiftly past her early childhood, beginning in earnest when she arrives in New York as a Columbia grad student.

Crime shows can take on many forms. There are procedurals, shows like "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "Law and Order" (and its endless spin-offs), and then, there are the gritty masterclass dramas, shows like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos." Some favor the process, some the outcome, though all abound with the kind of detached criminal activity audiences fervently eat up. Just look at "Breaking Bad's" 16 Emmy wins.

“The View” kicked off its first show of the new year by honoring the one and only Barbara Walters, who died on Friday, Dec. 30, at the age of 93, with an hour that reunited several of her former “View” co-hosts and featured highlights from her many years on the daytime series.
“Tributes are pouring in from around the world to celebrate the life of Barbara Walters,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said at the top of the ABC talk show Monday. Goldberg described “The View” creator and former co-host as “the reason why we’re all sitting here,” adding, “really, if not for her, I don’t know where most of us would be.”
Walters launched “The View” in 1997, with an original panel of Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and comedian Joy Behar. Behar remains the only original panelist still on the show, alongside current hosts Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

Lewinsky, whose March 3, 1999 interview with Walters on ABC drew a whopping 74 million viewers, recalled meeting Walters at just 24 years of age amid Kenneth Starr’s investigation, which ultimately uncovered President Bill Clinton’s affair with Lewinsky, then a White House intern.

When Barbara Walters interviewed Monica Lewinsky for that special episode of 20/20 back in 1999, a total of 74 million Americans tuned in to ABC to watch.
Seventy four million. That was one quarter of the entire U.S. population at the time. The interview averaged a 48 share, meaning that nearly half of all TV sets in use at the time were watching Walters.
By now much has been written about Walters’ groundbreaking career at NBC and ABC, in the mornings on Today and in the evenings on the ABC Evening News. She changed how TV news anchors were paid (today’s 8-figure deals would not exist had Walters not paved the way) and transformed daytime TV with The View.
But the news anchor, who died Friday at the age of 93, also fundamentally changed a core piece of the TV journalism repertoire: The interview.

More than any other figure in broadcast journalism, the legendary Barbara Walters made sure her interviews qualified as TV events.
Walters, who died Dec. 30 at the age of 93, reigned as the master of the big-get sit-down with newsmakers of the moment, and in doing so she helped television news ascend to new heights of prominence and influence. Among her many skills was her dexterity in drawing insights from aging Golden Age stars such as Fred Astaire, John Wayne and Katharine Hepburn to world leaders in crisis, from Muammar Gaddafi to Anwar Sadat to Fidel Castro to Vladimir Putin.
From the mid-1970s through the early 2010s, Walters was the undisputed pace-setter in landing coveted interviews with boldface names. And by the accounts of her top competitors over the years, Walters was a fierce contender for big gets until the day she retired from ABC News in 2014. Walters’ March 4, 1999, sitdown with Monica Lewinsky,...

Barbara Walters, the late trailblazing journalist, put ABC’s 20/20 on the map and co-created The View. Throughout her iconic career, which spanned 50 years and 12 Emmys awards, she interviewed royals, stars, presidents and Hollywood stars. She died Friday at 93 in New York and is survived by her adopted daughter Jacqueline.
Walters, who was known for making guests cry, was a broadcasting fixture and credited the fact that she changed high schools three times for learning to make friends and asking questions.
“I was never in awe of celebrities because they worked for my father,” Walters said. “I was curious. Even today, if I go out to dinner, and I’m sitting next to someone, and I ask questions, they’ll say, ‘Oh, you’re interviewing me.’”
The glass-ceiling-shattering newswoman made history as the first female co-host of the Today show and the first 1 million a year news anchor.
