Earlier this week, I looked at recent releases of Easter-season choral works by J.S. Bach and one of his sons. Today I cover a bit more historical range in terms of composers and eras, again sticking to recent releases.
Maria Venuti, Keith Lewis, Michel Brodard/Gächingen Chorale of Stuttgart/Bach Collegium of Stuttgart/Helmuth Rilling Christus am Ölberge, Op. 85 (Hänssler Classic)
Written in 1802 in just 14 days (but not published for a decade, hence the high opus number), Christus am Ölberge (Christ on the Mount of Olives) is a dramatic oratorio depicting Christ's emotional acceptance of his fate during His conversation with an angel in the garden of Gethsemene, followed by His arrest and Peter's protest.
It's not one of my favorite pieces; there's just one memorable chorus (all the way at the end) and a lot of fairly rote Beethovenisms. Even the composer spoke disparagingly of it, disliking the libretto.

Tila Tequila is in the news for not one, but two crazy comments made on her Facebook page. First she posted a photo of herself in a Nazi costume, saying Hitler was ‘brilliant,’ then she claimed that Paul Walker was murdered. Needless to say, fans aren’t happy.
Tila Tequila is back. While we didn’t know she was still popular, she came back into the limelight on Dec. 7 when she posted a rant claiming that Paul Walker did not die in a car crash, but was actually murdered.
Her crazy rants didn’t end there. She went on to share a photo of herself dressed as a Nazi with the following post (which she later deleted from Facebook):
Once upon a time in a land far away there was a special and sweet kid who had a dream to become a painter. He was a brilliant artist and was ahead of his time.

Perso, we think the Q&A segments of beauty pageants are the most illuminating...and it's also where the contestants seem to get into the most trouble (exempli gratia: Miss California Carrie Prejean's defense of "opposite marriage" at Miss USA back in 2009).
FoxNews.com's "Pop Tarts" reports that this year's Miss USA hopefuls are being asked the tough questions in on-camera interviews for the event's website -- whether evolution should be taught in classrooms and if they'd pose for nude photographs -- prompting certain mouthpieces to wonder if the pageant is pushing for a Prejean repeat.
Publicist Angie Meyer told Fox News, "The pageant officials are intimidating contestants into answering questions a certain way that are deemed 'politically correct' while discriminating against their own belief and opinions." Keith Lewis, the executive state pageant director for California, New York and New Hampshire, added, "The girls are scared to death. They...

Washington, Nov 11 – Carrie Prejean’s lawyer Charles LiMandri has sued Miss California USA executives Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler and their lawyer accusing them all of feeding top secret information to various news outlets in particular, TMZ.
According to the docs, LiMandri claims the two sides agreed that everything that took place during the mediation was to be kept private.
But somehow, LiMandri claims, accurate details involving everything from negotiation tactics to the fact that Carrie’s mom actually watched the footage of Carrie’s solo exploits somehow made its.

In her new book, "Still Standing," former Miss California Carrie Prejean claims that she was forced to get breast implants after being felt up by a pageant director, reveals Donald Trump's crude method of selecting the top Miss USA contestants and says she's become phone pals with both Sarah Palin and her daughter Bristol. Notably missing from the book: any mention of her sex tape. Controversial beauty queen Carrie Prejean has ended her legal battle with pageant bosses after both sides agreed to withdraw their lawsuits.
Miss California USA officials last month dropped a lawsuit against Prejean which demanded she reimburse them the $5,200 (£3,250) they loaned her for a boob job.
In exchange, the 22 year old threw out her suit accusing the organisation of violating her privacy by discussing the breast augmentation.
Pageant Director Keith Lewis says in a statement, "Carrie Prejean, Keith Lewis, and K2 productions have dropped their claim against each other and wish each other the best in their future endeavours. We are moving forward from the past."
Pageant owner Donald Trump dethroned Prejean in June after the beauty queen violated her contractual obligations by failing to make public appearances.
The blonde first hit the headlines after speaking out against same-sex marriage onstage at the Miss USA pageant in April - a move many believe cost her the crown.

Carrie Prejean, aka Miss California USA (yes, apparently there is a difference between Miss California and Miss California USA, which is more information I ever thought I'd know about these pageants) has filed a lawsuit against two pageant officials.
You may remember that Prejean caused an uproar back in April when moron Perez Hilton asked her a question about gay marriage at the MIss USA Pageant. Prejean was fired a couple of months later for violating her contract and not appearing at several pageant events. Prejean says that pageant officials Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler really got rid of her because of what she said during the show and because she talked a lot about God.
Donald Trump hasn't made a statement about this yet, but I'm sure he will.

He said they now only speak through their attorneys. Deposed Miss California Carrie Prejean said she was "shocked" when she read the news Wednesday that pageant officials had fired her. In an interview with TMZ, Prejean said that contrary to claims by pageant officials, she has been very cooperative with them.
"What's behind this, I think, is a political debate," she told the site. "They don't agree with the stance that I took [on Proposition 8]. [Former pageant director] Shanna [Moakler] is trying to bash me. They don't like me. From day one, they wanted me out, and they got what they wanted."
Prejean came under fire at the Miss USA pageant in April, when she expressed her opposition to gay marriage in a response to a question from judge and openly gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. She almost lost her crown a short time...

Learning she was stripped of her title, former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean blames the issue of same-sex marriage - and her opposition to it - for her ouster. "None of this would be happening right now if I just said, 'Yeah, gays should get married. You're right, Perez Hilton.' " Prejean, 22, told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush after he'd informed Prejean live on his radio show that she'd been dethroned. "That's the first that I've heard of it, Billy," she responded. During the pageant in April, judge Hilton asked Prejean her opinion of gay marriage. She replied that it...

Former beauty queen-turned-reality TV star Shanna Moakler's faith has been restored in America's top beauty pageant organisation following the firing of Miss California Carrie Prejean.
National pageant boss Donald Trump and Miss California director Keith Lewis stripped Prejean of her title on Wednesday after the beauty queen violated her contractual obligations by failing to make public appearances.
Moakler resigned as a director of the Miss USA California pageant last month - a day after Trump allowed Prejean to keep her title, despite her involvement in a topless photo scandal.
The former wife of rocker Travis Barker publicly supported Prejean after the provocative pictures leaked, but quit over concerns she was ignoring her duties to state pageant bosses in the wake of her headline-making exploits.
And now that Trump has recognised that Prejean wasn't honouring her contract, Moakler feels vindicated for her decision to part ways with the organisation.
She says, "First and foremost, my faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump.
"I believed eventually what I intimately knew would come to fruition."
And Moakler says she is now considering taking up her position once again: "Now that Carrie has been terminated from her position as Miss California, I would consider resuming my role and responsibilities with the pageant. It was hard for me to step down, but I felt what was happening was wrong and against what I felt was a proper guideline for our youth to follow."
Moakler first butted heads with Prejean when the now-former Miss California spoke out against same-sex marriage onstage at the Miss USA pageant in April - a move many believe cost her the crown. Moakler is an advocate of gay marriage.

Carrie Prejean is fighting back after being sideswiped by Billy Bush, who read a TMZ.com breaking news story about her being fired - then called her on the phone for her reaction. Prejean was in shock, according to Bush, who spoke to Larry King on CNN tonight. In a follow-up interview with TMZ, Prejean said that she was "shocked" at the news and took aim at pageant owner Donald Trump and the pageant producers. Miss California USA Carrie Prejean has been stripped of her title for violating her contract and "unwillingness to make appearances on behalf" of the organization, pageant officials announced Wednesday. Los Angeles — Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, who stirred up trouble for herself when she said gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, got two dreaded words from pageant poobah Donald Trump on Wednesday: "You're fired." Trump and other pageant leaders said Prejean was being sacked not because of the remarks but because she hadn't been holding up her end of the agreement she signed when she entered the pageant. "This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms. Prejean's unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," the California pageant's executive director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement....

Carrie Prejean's fight over same-sex marriage and risqué modeling photos weren't enough to cost her the Miss California crown, but the pageant says she's been stripped of it for the ultimate beauty queen crime: not showing up.
"The Miss California USA Organization, in conjunction with the Miss Universe Organization and with the blessing of its owner, Mr. Donald J. Trump, announced today the termination of Carrie Prejean as Miss California USA 2009, citing continued breach of contract issues," the Miss California USA Organization said in a statement.
Miss Malibu Tami Farrell, who was the first runner-up, is now Miss California.
Prejean, who Trump spared after Perez Hilton and other bloggers posted the risqué photos, removed her Wednesday because of her "unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," Keith Lewis, the pageant's executive director, said in a statement.
